Appearance
At first glance, Yuuto is actually quite ordinary. He can often be seen with a smile and a calm and contended expression on his face. His dark red eyes are almost startlingly clear, and are a slightly darker and deeper shade than usual. His equally dark red hair is wild and unkempt, although it manages to fall into a naturally spiky, wavy halo around his face. On a side note, Yuuto never bothers fixing his hair; most days, he just gets up, gets changed, and goes to school without worrying about it. He also wears glasses without a prescription, for the sake of fashion. It should be noted that Yuuto's original hair and eye color is actually a dark brown; a few days after his return to Japan, Yuuto had surgery to change his eye color and got hios hair permanently died.
As an athlete, Yuuto is quite fit; although he isn't ripped like some athletes, Yuuto is still lithe, with more muscle than is admittedly slim figure betrays. His fast reflexes and physical fitness from his family training gave him a natural advantage when it came to sports and brawling; he is normally quick enough to dodge wayward fireworks at point-blank range, a feat that made him a sort of urban legend from the school's summer festival, where he managed to avoid ten fireworks that went off at the wrong time from only two meters away.
However, Yuuto's most defining physical factor is an extremely rare medical condition, with odds of less than one in ten thousand, known scientifically as "dextrocardia situs inversus totalis." This highly unusual condition affects all of the major structures and organs within the thorax and abdomen; many of his internal organs, such as his heart, lungs, liver, and stomach, are consequently laid out across the sagittal plane (the human measure of bilateral symmetry). In essence, most of his major visceral organs are in the places of their mirror image.
For a respected student with decent grades, Yuuto has the unfortunate habit of dressing up like a delinquent or a yakuza member. He often wears a dark red button-down shirt, with the collar loose and turned up and the first couple of buttons undone. In addition, he often wears black slacks with black dress shoes, complimented by an equally black blazer that he usually leaves unbuttoned. In contrast to this fairly formal ensemble, Yuuto often wears a black wristband (the studded, purely fashion-only type) on his left of his wrist. On another note, on some occasions Yuuto accidentally ends up going to school in various outfit instead of in his uniform, although the teachers cut him some slack because of his diligence.
Personality
Addressed as "Yuu-kun" by almost everyone who knows him, Yuuto is an insightful, even sweet character with a gentle outlook. He has a warm and friendly personality, and will often smoothly intervene to stop any arguments between his friends if necessary. He is, ironically, quite popular among his classmates regardless of the fact that he is also the class clown, and is also well known as the ace of the kendo club; in fact, he was one of the potential candidates for the captain position. Yuuto, however, can be a bit of a jerk, and has the unfortunate knack of knowing how to push people's buttons; he will often take a small joke too far, although he jests in pure comedy, not to insult.
There is actually quite a lot underneath that gentle, if aloof, exterior, and nobody, including Yuuto himself, seems to be completely aware of how far his personality extends. He has the tendency, to bottle up his emotions, maintaining the image of his cheerfulness at all times. For example, he'd never try to help someone outright, but set up trials and such to help them grow by their own power. In spite of that, he is known at his school as a very reliable guy who never goes back on a promise. He also has the amazing ability to remain calm even during the most pressing situations.
Underneath his gentle exterior, however is a deep, rooted hatred that has only begun to be tempered by time and maturity. Yuuto does not particularly like fighting, he usually finds no pleasure in seeking conflict and tends to avoid it when he can. Contrary to his rather cheerful personality, however, Yuuto is almost sadistic in that while he doesn't like to seek conflict, he gladly welcomes it when it comes to him. He will never interfere with outside conflicts, but when someone directly challenges him, insults him, or somehow harms him, he shows no mercy.
Yuuto enjoys thoroughly and systematically demolishing his opponents. Thus, he almost never uses his full power in normal situations. However, he is easily excited when confronting someone he believes to be a worthy opponent; even if such a person is not, when excited he can easily overstep his own boundaries, bringing his full power to bear upon even the weakest of insects and small creatures. Usually, it is only after the consequences of his own actions unfold that he realizes what he has done. This often results in him freely mocking the opponent, stating that they didn't realize that they themselves didn't have enough power to defeat him, which is why they were thus responsible for challenging him and losing.
On a side note, Yuuto has a very specialized memory; although he is horrible at remembering anything written down, if he is shown something physically, he is easily able to remember it. In addition, as long as any action he sees is not horribly complex (turning switches, a baseball swing, certain martial arts moves), he is easily able to replicate it; of course, he may not get it perfectly at first.
History
Child of Masaru Ryoma and Masaru Sakura, Yuuto was born precisely at the start of the twilight hour, exactly at twelve o'clock midnight. In addition to this rather rare occurrence, the newborn baby also sported a strange birthmark, in the shape of a unicursal hexagram, on the right side of his chest. Unlike most birthmarks, this one had an unusual degree of clarity, and was a rather unusual shape as well.
Even though his birth was under rather interesting circumstances, in the beginning, Masaru Yuuto appeared to be nothing more than a child of good intelligence and excellent health. His grades were consistent As and Bs, and he had a decent social life. He was, in essence, the most normal child with the most normal childhood you could ever hope to meet: he started school late like many children, fooled around like a normal child, and could see ghosts and spirits like any other child.
Quite obviously, he was not as normal as he seemed.
For generations, the Masaru and their branch families have been known in certain circles as a lineage with a high percentage of spiritually aware humans, a far higher percentage than normal. And, what is even more interesting, is that these "seers" tend to marry each other. And while the "sight" they possess does not always manifest in their child, this has created the possibility of "augmented probability." And so, every generation or two, some child of the Masaru family is born with the "sight." And out of these, a small handful of these are born with strange birthmarks of geometrical patterns, heralding the arrival of a particularly strong one; these select few often manifest a "fullbring." What's different about this family is that all of their powers, without exception, have revolved around fire.
Yuuto was the result of the Masaru family's augmentation of the probability of being a Fullbringer. He was blessed with the "sight that could see spirits." What's more, he bore the unusual mark at birth that heralded the potential power within him. So, like they did with all children blessed with the sight, his family tried to shape him. Day after day, he trained his body and mind, learning martial arts and accumulating knowledge. And he was forced to draw out the power of his spirit, forced to align his "fullbring" with the heavenly flame, the "Tenraika" of the Masaru lineage.
However, Yuuto was, in a way, simply unlucky. Maybe it was a true lack of luck, or maybe Fate. But, regardless of much as he tried, he could not manifest the "Tenraika;" in fact, he was afraid of fire. What made matters worse was the fact that Yuuto was the only son of the head family. Great things had been expected of him. And these expectations, obviously, were not going to be met.
Still, they continued to push him, and Yuuto was the subject of much teasing and bullying by the "potentials," the other children of the branch families. Now, one could wonder why Yuuto merely couldn't run away. There was one reason for this. When he was five, Yuuto suddenly changed from the "only" son of the head family to the "first" son of the head family. Yes, the only reason Masaru Yuuto remained with his family was the arrival of his younger brother, Masaru Kohaku. But even that was torn away from him.
See, the Masaru Family had an old tradition, a rite to determine the next head of the clan. The most powerful child of the branch family was chosen to challenge the firstborn of the head family. The one chosen of the branch families was a girl, two years younger than Yuuto: Masaru Fujino. Needless to say, it was not much of a challenge at all; calling it a fight would be an overstatement. It was, for lack of a better term, a complete and total massacre. Masaru Fujino, with only a single spell, scared Masaru Yuuto into forfeiting.
The Masaru family, old-fashioned as they were, could not stand such a disgrace. They banished him from the family, disowning their son. Thus they tore Yuuto apart from his younger brother. Angered by their injustice, Yuuto swore revenge on the family and left, seeking out the power to destroy them. He was adopted by an affiliate family in America, changed his surname to Yagami, and spent the next ten years of his life traveling across Europe and the Americas. For ten years, he did not set foot in Japan.
Yuuto lived a normal life then: going from school to school, making friends. However, he never stopped searching, never neglected his training, never forgot the grudge that he had with the Masaru Family. While time tempered his anger, he had decided that he would retain nothing more than an icy acquaintance with his former family. But, there was one soft spot he held for a member of that family, the one person he would never abandon.
Masaru Kohaku. His younger brother.
Combat
Strengths
Due to the training from the Masaru family, Yuuto possesses a comprehensive, if not perfected, knowledge of martial arts. While he himself is not a "master" of any, his knowledge allows him to grasp movements that would otherwise prove troublesome to an untrained fighter. In addition, Yuuto is surprisingly tenacious, capable of taking pain that would otherwise cripple another human being. He is also fairly intelligent and observant, capable of calmly deducing mysteries in startlingly fast amounts of time.
Weaknesses
As he is merely human, Yuuto's physical condition is null when compared to "spirit classes." He also has a bad habit of toying with his enemies, which has caused him to underestimate his opponents and suffer from surprises. He is also a loner; while he will sometimes cooperate with teams, he often ends up doing his own things, which tends to come back and hurt him and his teammates.
