The Agency

The Agency is a shadowy organization that has existed since the early days of civilization. They operate beyond the governments, rather like a secret society, and their sole purpose is to protect the people of the world from that which they do not understand. Though shinigami send spirits on to the world beyond, and purify hollows, these conflicts often spill into the homes of the living, causing rampant destruction. The Agency is responsible for the reparation of the damage done by the fighting spirits and for explaining away the seemingly unexplainable destruction. Throughout history they have taken many guises, witch hunters from medieval times, shady 'men in black' from the fifties, always linked somehow to paranormal and extraterrestrial occurrences.

Their organization is split into hundreds of 'commanders' across the globe, each one bearing the codename of a number in the local dialect. The commander of Okumichi is a man known as Shichi (Seven). Under a commander operates a number of 'Agents', the number of Agents assigned to a commander is dependent on their codename (which doubles as their rank), the code names assigned to Agents reflect the number of agents assigned to their commander in some way. Shichi's Agents are named after the days of the week.

Zwölf, a commander from Germany, was assigned to Okumichi after the incidents in 2008 with the Queen of Las Noches, to clean up the mess that Shichi created, his Agents were named after the months of the year. By kidnapping Desmond Green, destroying the Pfeil Abbey and ultimately using Green in a device designed to wipe clean reiatsu from the world, they hoped to end the needless destruction done to the mortal world by the shinigami once and for all.
