Appearance
Souken wears a typical Shinigami uniform, with some mail armour on his right arm at the shoulder and a gauntlet that goes up to the forearm leaving the elbow exposed allowing freedom of movement with the arm. he is 6 foot 7 and weighs in at around 300 lbs. He has a muscular build that is balanced from strength and stamina, so while being muscular he isn't just a man mountain of muscle like his captain. He has heavy scaring around his eyes where they have been hacked at with a knife and his eyes themselves are damaged beyond repair but have been left in as they have no impact to his health. Souken wields a twin bladed Zanpaktou 60 inches in length straight blades, they look more like claymores than Katana 7 inches across and half an inch thick, sharp on both sides and at the point. These Weapons have no scabbard and held on Souken's back crossing each other. Souken wears two chains around his uniform to hold them in place.
Personality
Fiercely loyal while at the same time a bit of a rebel, wont follow an order he feels unjust. Being blind he doesn't lock eyes with anyone ever unless by total mistake. Souken isn't the type to "suck" up to superiors while, he will follow orders and such, he won't scream "Sir" constantly, and he cares little for formalities as he feels there just inplace to massage someone's ego and just slow down the chain of command.
Being blind has made him naturally observant. Souken has little hate for anyone, he believes everyone is merely divided by opinion and the side there on, and that you don't chose your side, you just fall into it, and once your there, you fight for it till you die.
History
Souken was born into a moderately well off family in the 3rd district of Rukongai, he lived a simple life as a child free of burdens and happy a with his mother, father and his grandparents, the family weren't famous for much nor that well known.
When Souken for four years old, his family house was attacked by a bandit group from Rukongai 80, The Kanazuchi men were not warriors and had provided very few Shinigami over the years and those they did were never seated. In the attack the men and women were killed, the children were also killed except Souken, they blinded him with a horizontal cut across his eyes. He was left deserted in Rukongai 79 bleeding out, hungry and blinded. After a few days he was found by a blind old man, who treated him and took him in.
Some years passed and the old man knew that he was getting old and that as Souken was he could not surrive Rukongai on his own. So he taught him to use his spirit power, Souken was a natural and after a good few years he could sense spiritual force in others and feel the change of the lighter pressure spirit power in the air, over time he learned to see, his sight became similar to radar.
More years passed and the old man decided to teach him to fight as fights in this part of soul society were bound to happen and he wanted the boy to be able to look after himself. His teachings consisted of philosophy as well as swordplay. The philosophy consisted of giving Souken a sense of honor, but not of the old mans, but for the boy to discover his own. Souken was a smart boy but looked at things from a mathematical stand point and looked at what broke down the sides people stood on and what made them do what they do. He concluded that, your side, is usually given to you or that you simply fall into it. The differences were merely opinions. Sword play consisted of an offensive double katana wielding style which he became adept at.
21 years after he was found by the old man, the old man passed away, Souken never new his name, just always called him "Sir" the old man would just tell him to not call him sir, but would never ask his name, and just call him "sir" anyway. At this point Souken had nothing for him in Rukongai, he needed a "side" one day a Shinigami recruitment officer sensed his spiritual force which felt fairly high, while still low, for a normal citizen, nonetheless he was snapped up, while being adept with spirit force, he couldn't ever get to grasps with Kidō he was solid with Hohō and was one of the best in his class with Zanjutsu.
He graduated highly in the class and went on in going into the 11th squad, the examiners felt he would fit in best there.
Combat
Strengths
Loyal and mentally strong.
Balance and physical strength.
Speed.
Stamina and Spirit Force output.
Weaknesses
Lacks ambition and has little time for those who want recognition for there station and actions.
Due to being blind, can we weak against quiet attacks if they have low Spirit force (get drowned out in combat)
Very poor at demon arts or binding despite being good with Reiatsu.
Useless Disarmed
Vision
Souken views the world, through a mental sense gained through years of various spirit techniques, to gain a 3d field of view he bounces small amounts of reiatsu in a 360 degree sphere around him, the length of this field is much shorter than distance of vision (around 75 Meters) but allows him to see in multiple directions at once. Since this type of sight involves bouncing spirit energy around, it has the same flaw as normal sight, he can't see through objects, obstacles obstruct his view like anyone else.
So his vision isn't crippled over long ranges his ability to sense spirit force is honed, but someone who is very adept at hiding there spirit force and is out of his distance of vision, is pretty much invisible.
