Appearance
Slevin looks like a normal shinigami, with the exception that he has a large, elongated left arm in a glove, that is actually a claw. The left side of his body is covered in scales, and other than that he has ragged red hair, a set of bracelets and stands about five foot eleven.
His zanpakutō is a small ceramic knife.
Personality
Slevin is a realist, he believes in realistic, and logical outcomes. As such, he loves every kind of socializing there is, regardless of the fact it's hard for him. Though he may not be the best person for the job when it comes to talking someone out of something, it's a good thing he was put into the sixth division when the experimentation on his body was complete. He does his job very well only because the whole reasoning thing doesn't work well when he can't speak to them.
Slevin enjoys the whole sixth division scene, he's not a bad ass, and doesn't try to act it. The 12th may have messed up his body, it did nothing to his mind, and being a quiet, if not by choice, individual makes him an ideal candidate for not giving up information, and keeping quiet. Slevin also understands that being nice, gets him what he wants, so he is as nice as possible, until your name turns up as a fugitive.
Slevin doesn't get mad easily, hell he really doesn't even have much to do with the whole anger scene. He hunts shinigami, probably because he can't hunt hollow, while that pans out for some people, he was pushed into surviving by becoming a 12th division experiment. Which is fine by him, unlike others, he lived, and staying calm, will keep him that way. So while other people yell and fuss, he will quietly sit.
Yes, Slevin was nearly killed by a hollow when he was a plus, it tore his entire right arm off and he was brought to soul society for the 12th division to have their way with his quickly dying corpse, lucky for him. As such, when it was over and he was deemed acceptable and not mentally unstable, he was pushed into the 6th division, after all, a shinigami afraid of hollows doesn't have many other places to go.
Slevin had his vocal chords destroyed when he died, and they were again assaulted when the hollow nearly devoured his plus, because of this he is a mute. He can't speak, but he does body language VERY well. Makes it easy for him to talk, without actually talking.
Unlike most loners and problem children, Slevin likes making friends. Even the guys who messed him up in the 12th he still hangs out with. To him, they saved his life, to others its usually more messed up and torturous in their mind. Slevin forgives quickly, so long as it is realistic to do so. People who constantly screw him over he tends to not even care about at all.
Slevin does his job, from the moment he is assigned to a rogue shinigami, or a person who has broken the law, he doesn't just jerk it in the top room, watch from a distance, or think about what he's going to do. He gets up, and starts looking. Slevin figures, the more he does his job, regardless of the massive hindrance of not being able to speak, he can move up in the world.
History
Slevin, wasn't always named Slevin. In fact, before he died his name was Paulo Vetinelli, and he came from a Venetian Italian family. Unfortunately, it was that kind of a family. Paulo only lived to be fifteen, before that he had seen people disappear, had friends of his father turn up missing, his uncles in jail every once in a while, with connections to mafioso in both Italia and the US, he had connections everywhere. His family did, anyway. Though when you're the son of a mafia boss you eventually have to do something to say with the family, and that's where Paulo ended up on the wrong side of a bad day.
When Paulo, the privileged and son of the mob boss found himself trying to join the family business, he ended up dropping out of school and running drugs and other bad things around by the time he was fourteen, and when you start doing things like that early, you also get in trouble, early. Well, when he turned fifteen, a month or two after, Paulo was eating at his father's restaurant when a group of men turned up with guns. While his father managed to dive behind a table, and Paulo the same, he was hit first, in the neck, blowing his neck chunks and voice box out the back. Paulo died just like that.
While Paulo was a plus for a relatively short time, his chain didn't corrode and his danger of becoming a hollow was rather slim, however, he was caught by a hollow a few months down the road as he was waiting for whatever would move him onto the next life. Just as he began running from it, was the first time he saw a shinigami, was the first time he ever saw one, unfortunately, he was a bit too slow for a monster like a hollow.
Paulo's left arm and parts of his neck, were destroyed. Even as a plus, most do not survive such horrible wounds, however, the fact that a 4th, 12th and the shinigami that had been near the hollow allowed him to survive until he made it into the 12th division experimentation tables. Paulo would spend the next six years being experimented on by the 12th division.
When Paulo was put on the experiment table, near death in a comatose state, he was made a part of a project to modify soul genetics with non-human souls. This did no include hollow, and as such there is no risk of Paulo being a visored. However the project he was in was replacing lost soul tissue, the seventh hypothesis of the experiment, as the eleventh test subject. Each hypothesis was focused on a different way to mutate a soul by means of taking pieces from other types of souls. Most to all of them included pushing deceased reiatsu from other souls and lost experiments to harden his reiatsu. While some where just soul injections or genetic recoding, his was fully replacing lost tissue and limbs with that of something else, even if that meant growing a genetically modified reptilian arm.
Slevin, mixing sounds from the numbers seven and eleven by one of the researchers to make a funny little nickname, awoke almost six years later on the operating table, and after multiple masochistic wounds caused by him accidentally harming himself with his new claw, he was given a protective glove to keep the claw in, to which he put a matching glove on his other arm. Slevin, as he was now called as the coma had given him brain damage, but not enough to remove the phobia of hollows. Most of the basic shinigami academy knowledge was programed into his brain, and the fact that the 12th division has an override into his mind, he was excused from attending more than a single final exam to make sure the knowledge had been programed correctly. After all, when you take the time to program certain things to muscle memory and implant information you are pretty much a clean slate robot. The knowledge mostly pertained to tracking and investigation to bring back rogue and wanted shinigami.
Combat
Strengths
Experimental Arm – Slevin's left arm has a reach of approximately six inches longer than his right, almost twice the strength, elongated and deadly claws, and scales that are akin to Arrancar Heirro. These scales go along most of the left side of his chest, up to the lower parts of his neck, and hip. His body has been designed to pour additional unused reiatsu into them naturally.
Weaknesses
Hollowphobia – Slevin runs from hollows, dead scared of them, they almost killed him once, and he doesn't plan on experiencing that again. Even though he doesn't remember it, the scar is still VERY much there.
Hohō - Slevin can only move about half of a shunpo once he learns the skill, the different reiatsu distribution on his body kind of ruins flash stepping. As he has to compensate differently.
Mental Override - To prevent former experiments and artificially modified souls, Slevin, like most 12th division projects, has a mental override should the need occur.
