Appearance
Saito is a handsome young man with sharp features and white skin. Standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a wirey build. Saito's hair is black and long, done into a pony tail about 3 feet long behind him, his bangs hang down over his face. His eyes are an odd orange color that glow like a fire when Saito is in a combative state. His pupils are somewhat lizard like slits, many have told him his eyes are unnerving, in response he began to wear sunglasses whenever he went out in public. His forearms are wrapped in bandages, with metal arm guards over the wrapping. He wears a slightly loose black body suit under neath a green dressing baring a dragon on the front. The dressing is bound at the waist with a wrapping similar to the ones on his wrists.
Personality
Saito is a calm and collected individual who seems almost too relaxed at first glance. Difficult to anger, usually able to ignore all but the greatest provocations, bar comments about his eyes. He'll associate with others but does not like groups, preferring the peacefulness of solitude compared to the overly 'loud' atmosphere of social gatherings; This is not to say he's not friendly however. Largely intelligent and possessing a keen insight, Saitos ability to analyze and understand is top notch; often getting him to bottom of a tough mystery before others. Saito doesn't accept challenges, believing that if the challenger was suited for the prize he would already have it. While he despises challenges, Saito does enjoy sparring, believing that a friendly spar helps both sides while a challenge only damages the loser. In combat Saito believes in neutralizing a threat as efficiently as possible.
History
Saito is the first and only son of Toshi Ryukouin, a member of squad 6, and Madoka Ike, a tavern owner in southern district 15.
Saito's first few years were not as normal as other children's were. He and his sister were born with the bantekime, or savage eyes, of the ryukouin clan. A genetic mutation that appeared in certain members of the family every few generations. The belief was the bantekime appeared as a sign of impending doom, delivered by the one who would avert it. They were referred to as the savages, treated as lesser members of the clan, though members all the same.
However, this was the first case of twins who bore the bantekime. This was also the first case of the bantekime since 300 years ago. The last two members to bear the eyes had gone rather insane and attempted to kill the clans leader. Unsure of what to do, the family came to a conclusion. Averting disaster was good, dead leader was bad. The solution was obvious to anyone. They only needed one, two was just asking for trouble. They'd keep the stronger of the two. Hana had been born with an odd condition that gave her a frail body. Averting a disaster would call for fighting. When all was said and done Saito and his mother were initiated into the family. Saito's sister, Hanatetsu, was carried into the reaches of southern rukongai and left with the first person her transporters came across. Within the clan he received the tales of his father, and the history of the ryukouin. They worked as guards and mercenaries for the other noble families of rukongai. He was to be treated as the last savage had been treated. Assigned a member of the family to serve and learn under. Saitos master as it were was one of the families more odd members, Kazama Ryukouin. From the moment they met he required Saito to wear dark glasses while in his presence. Not because they unnerved Kazama, but because kazama felt he was not worthy to look upon them. Kazama was different from the other members of the clan. He was a guard like almost all members, but he was different from the others who knew only brute force. Though he could fight and was trained to do so, he taught himself to read beneath the underneath. To solve a situation as quickly and efficiently as possible. The master spent much time teaching his student his ways. Within ten years Saito had learned most of what his master could teach him. Which amounted to naught but knowing the proper way to swing a weapon and having a keen eye for details. What remained of his masters teachings was simply showing Saito how to make sense of these details, to be able to put them together to form a complete key to whatever puzzle he was trying to solve. It had taken him 20 years to learn and master his teachers way, but it had been worth it. His first real test came not long after. A ware house had been raided a few days prior to this task being handed to him. His mission was simply to figure out who had the gall to raid a ryukouin weapons storehouse and think they would get away with it.
It wasn't an easy task by any means. Investigation of the warehouse itself didn't yield much info. Though a cursory glance told him the guards had been caught by surprise, easily whacked in the back of the head while their minds wandered. It was upon taking a closer look however he noticed a scrap of fabric bearing an insignia had been stuck to a nearby tree. Saito did not recognize the insignia, but his father did. The insignia belonged to a small time crime boss in district fifty of rukongai. Saito wasted no time in checking the main road, finding tracks from a cart and several people heading in that direction. Before he knew it he'd caught up with the thieves, catching them off guard as they prepared to continue their journey. The leader of the thieves began to do battle with saito, attacking him without warning. The two fought to a stand still, Saito' glasses getting broken before he himself landed a powerful blow on his foe that knocked some sort of lens from their eye. When the two locked eyes again Saito was surprised to find he was looking into the Bantekime. Saito demanded to know the girls identity, though she answered him by punching him in the face. Before Saito had a chance to respond in kind his father showed up. Causing the girls lackeys to scatter. He explained the situation, infuriating Saito to a smaller degree then the girl who was apparently his sister. His father sent him home with the weapons while he talked with the girl. Upon Saito's return he demanded to speak with the clan elders. They ignored his demands at first, giving in only when he brought up the reason he wanted to see them. The elders told saito of the last two savages, both had claimed to have come to some sort of realization. They claimed the disaster that needed averting was allowing the clans leader to live any longer. When they were born they'd gotten rid of the weaker one. Saito left the room after reporting his success in retrieving the stolen weapons. This was apparently all the proof the elders required, giving him their blessing to attend the shinigami academy. Saito attended the academy as he had decided he would some years back. He saw his sister occasionally, though any attempts to talk to her resulted in her telling him she would destroy him. Saito graduated from the academy a mere week after the battle of the inari shrine. Quickly placed in the 13th squad for his abilities.
Combat
Strengths
Saito's perception allows him to react more quickly and skillfully to an enemy attack then the average shinigami.
Weaknesses
Saito's physical strength is below average for a shinigami. He's often over powered by physical fighting foes.
In the unlikely event he does become provoked he tends to fly into a rage, ignoring the details he would normally catch in a foes attack, thereby making his counter attack attempts pitiful at best.
