When he set his eye on something he makes it his business to get it.
History
The era of the Wokou (Japanese Pirates) was over or so many believed, they were only a handful who practiced this lifestyle. He was born in a little hut in Japan to a mother and father who seemed to want nothing to do with him, they shunned him and treated him like an outcast but yet he never hated them. His older brother (Lee) seemed to be the gem in their eye and in his heart he wanted to surpass him so he could be the gem in their eyes.
Being on a pirate ship at an early age in rough, un-hindering conditions, he toughened up and saw many things that someone that age shouldn’t have to witness. By the age of 8 he had been on more than his fair share of raids, robbing and sinking of treasury ships, battling the military who tried to catch them.
Though his parents seemed to despise him, they always took him on dangerous mission with only one thing to say to him, “This it what your future holds, violence and death.” Those words stood with him and he hated that phrase, but so far it was right, Saito witness murders, and torture, some just for fun of it, but the day would soon come when he would get blood on his hands. On a raid everyone was engaged in battle and we were out numbered, Lee was holding his own but someone approached from behind as if to do him in. Panicking he picked up a knife and threw it at the man head. Blood squirted from his eye as he dropped fell over board to the sharks. He didn’t mean to kill him but he was only protecting his brother and from that day on kept close to him.
He was a hard worker and with his brother there he was trained in some loose form of swordsmanship, knife throwing and some side skills like being a con artist while the ship was in harbour and others. He was cunning and a mercenary in ways, Saito was raise into this lifestyle, this was all he knew but yet he wanted something different for himself, but a life like that was out of reach for him. By the age 14 he remembered that his father was a Boatswain, mother a cook and brother a Gunner; he worked under his brother Lee. He knew the rules of the ship and one dreadful night as they were preparing to dock, they were ambushed. Enemy forces had them surrounded. The thick fog that surfaced hours earlier betrayed them, the bounties on all their heads were high and they were wanted dead or alive.
The battle began, cannon balls flying in the air, chucks of wood being shattered on impact. When they got closer to other ships they boarded and went on a killing spree. Saito joined in killing anyone who opposed him with his blades; it was kill or be killed. They managed to sink one ship but with three others engaging them with bigger but slower ships, they made a strategic retreat. Once they were out of harms way the captain called for an assessment of damages and casualties. The ship was damage badly and in need of prepared, lots of men lost their lives but he really didn’t care once Lee was alive and well. Climbing the splintered mast of the ship he went on look out, when he was sent for but one of the mates aboard.
As he went below deck he saw the gruesome sight, Saito parents were killed on the ambush. Their bodies impaled by a cannon ball, blood, bones and organs splattered everywhere. Lee was on his knees, tears running down his face; this was a little shocking to him to see his brother so weak. He turned and walked away back to his lookout position. He didn’t feel anything seeing them like that, all the battles made him cold and kept what emotions he had to himself.
As time passed the raids lessen as he could tell that their time was coming to an end, it was pointless holding on to this life style, but then he thought to himself, when you believe in something you hold on to it. After his parents deaths he barely spoke and when he did his tongue cut deep into whomever he spoke to. Only one to get through this barrier was the captain and his brother.
Saito trained himself more in the art of battle, stealth, and precision, his parent might be long gone to see how he improved himself but the one person that really mattered was still there with him. It’s been a while since a raid and supplies were dwindling and to keep a crew happy you needed to keep well fed. There was Intel of a supply ship entering the bay a day’s travel disguised as a regular passenger boat carrying food, weapons and monetary items. They now had a target in sight and the men geared up preparing for battle as well as him. He was in his quarters preparing, tucking away his throwing knifes in a little pouch he wore, his dual broadsword, and darts when his Lee walked in. He was a little surprised to see him, Lee told him he was proud of the man he became and brought a gift wrapped in linen. As he unwrapped the parcel, it was a custom made one of a kind dual broadsword, he smile as he gave them a couple of stylish swings. Lee wished him Happy Birthday, he couldn’t believe that he forgot his own birthday; all he could do was nod and thank him while wishing him a fierce but safe battle.
It was time; he was leaning off one of the ropes on the mast trying to see the ship in the distance. Soon enough it was in his sights, he swung down on a loose rope and with that the ship rode the air currents to capture its prize. The boat was still out to see, a good thing since they didn’t want any interruptions from land assistance. Soon they were spotted despite it was a stormy night and BANG, the first shot was fired missing them. They had to get closer to board them to take over. The salty water splashed in his face, and the smell of gunpowder was in the air. The other ship was taking damage but so were they, grappling hooks were thrown to the ship, men were crawling on then while other was just swinging over. These men not only had blades, they were armed with lots of guns. He wasn’t crazy about them and he pulled out a couple of his darts as he swung over to the other ship. He laid waste to the four men with the darts before bring out his brand new blades.
After an encounter with him, limbs were mission from their bodies and blood stained the deck. Lee stood on the ship giving some orders, when with the flash of lighting he saw a large wave behind their ship. He screamed out his brother’s name, and tried to get back to his ship, slicing everyone in his way; it didn’t matter if they be friend or foe. He got to Lee and he was staring at the incoming wave as if he knew this would be the end. He nudged him and he smiled and held his hand, ”Everything will be fine, I will always be here for you” lee said before the Tsunami cam crashing down on them all.
Under the water he kept holding his brother hand surprised that they survived the impact, the ships were nothing more wreckage and bodies drifted in the raging ocean. They began to swim upward with their hands still entwine when one of the mast sunk below him but the unthinkable happened. He became entangled in the ropes and dragged below, the release of his brothers hand was the worst feeling he felt as he try to fight and hang on for dear life.
The life left his body and he expected to go to a better place but to his surprise he was stuck at the bottom of the ocean, a chain connecting him to his swords that his brother gave him which lay slightly buried below the sand. He was confused and in denial about his death but would soon come to terms with it. He thought it was his punishment, but why punish him. After 6 months of despair and waiting for his brother, He started to fight the water itself out of frustration. Punched and kicked at the water wishing it was all over. He punched one more time to the large remains of the ship that they attempt to sack, when a pulse of water knocked it over. Un-aware to him all the strength he had left in his being was used in that last strength and his spiritual energy rose enough to interact with the water around him. He was confused even more as he began to think what had just occurred. Suddenly the chains that bind him to his swords completely eroded, the pain was immense but the transformation was swift. His humanity was lost that day and his days of being a hollow had begun. Saito couldn’t remember anything but a hunger was there, he darted through the water where he came across a wandering vessel. There was something he couldn’t resist and as he wrapped himself around it and pulled it down to his domain, he had his first feast of human souls.
