Appearance

Sai has thin brown shoulder length hair that he often lets flow freely. He has two different colored eyes, his left being blue and the right being an amber color. At five foot eleven Sai's body appears to be very thin and makes him look like a frail individual that hides a surprising amount of strength for someone of his structure. He has two scars, one that goes down his chest from his left shoulder to the right side of his waist and another scar on the back of his neck that goes down in between his shoulder blades. He also has a tattoo of an infinity sign on his left shoulder.

Sai wears his Shinigami uniform a little differently that some other people in his division. He keeps one of his zanpaktou over his left shoulder and the other hangs from the right side of his waist. The sleves are rolled up at the elbows and he has his lower arms wrapped up in white cloth. He also has wears a silver chain around his chest that's connected to the two sheaths of his zanpaktou. He wears it to remind himself of his time he wandered the world as a plus and how fortunate he is for not becoming a hollow.

Personality

Sai is one of the nicest people you'll ever know if he considers you as a friend. He is talkative and likes to make jokes to often lighten the mood in the room. He hates awkward silence and will often try to spark up a conversation just to get rid of it. He is very caring and protective of the people he cares for and often will do anything he can to prevent those people from being harmed. Kind to almost a fault he will do anything to help his friends feel safe and happy. He is also very protective of innocent people and will stop at nothing to save the lives of those who could be in harms way.

At the same time though Sai can be a very dangerous man around those he sees as enemies. He shows no remorse or sympathy to beings he considers a threat to his friends or the innocent and more often will consider elimination as the best option. In the face of his enemies he shows no emotions with the exception of a sadistic smile that tense to show up when he sheds their blood. This side of him is one that he doesn't wish his friends to see but it usually comes out when he tries to protect those he cares for.

History

Sai was born to a broken family in a rough village just outside of Fukui. His mother never wanted to have him and always looked at him as if he were a mistake. His father was a drunk who abused anyone he could get his hands on that was often Sai. For the first five years of his life Saith knew only pain, hate, and nothing related to love. When Sai turned six his mother gave birth to another boy and Sai became an older brother. Sai however showed no emotion or care for this new being that lived in the same house as him. The years of abuse, both physical and emotional, inflicted on Sai turned him as heartless as his parents. Another five years would pass and Sai would continue to be abused by his father along with his brother.

By the time Sai was eleven years of age the abuse at home had escalated to a entire new level. His father had become worse and even began to turn his wife into one of his victims as well. Sai, who was emotionally scared from years of abuse simply looked on with a sadistic smile. For months Sai was relieved that his father's anger was directed elsewhere, but something was different this time. Seeing his brother and mother being beaten like so caused Sai feel for the first time. It wouldn't be for a few more years until Sai realized these feelings were concern and guilt. On one particular night, his Father was more rage driven than usual as he turned his anger towards Sai's brother.

His younger brother huddled into the corner as his father grabbed a knife. Seeing this Sai began to act on these strange new emotions. As their father moved in closer his brother was cowering in the corner shouting for whatever help he could get. All of a sudden something caused the abusive man to stop in his tracks. From the corner of the house Sai reached for his father's katana and pierced it through the man's chest. As their father's lifeless body fell to the floor there was a silence that came over the home. His mother was shocked by the sudden action while his brother was surprised to still be alive. Sai looked down at the corpse he created with a confused and scared expression. Looking back up towards his brother and mother Sai ran out of the house with the sword in hand.

Sai, fueled by fear and instinct, continued running the whole night. His mind blacked out to escape his actions while his body ran on instinct to escape what happened. When Sai finally stopped to rest he found himself in the middle of a vast field, uncertain to where he was. He had unintentionally made himself lost trying to get away from what he did. The only thing to remember his home being the same sword he killed his father with. Sai spent the next seven years wandering around the countryside in attempts to find his home again.

By this point in his travels Sai had come across another sword. These two blades were used to survive against dangerous threats the world threw at him. During those years Sai would wander into villages and towns, stealing food in order to survive. One fateful day Sai found a man walking down a dirt road between two villages. He figured the man would make an easy target to steal from.

Taking his two katanas Sai sneaked behind his target and leaped in for the attack. Saith never saw the two katanas this man was carrying. Before he could even make contact he found himself slammed on the ground. Looking up he saw a blade now hanging over his face and throat.

Sai saw that his target was an older looking man with a scar running down his face. As the two stared each other down the old man notice Sai showed no emotion what so ever. The man asked Sai why he was not scared or begging for his life. Sai simply replied that he once took a life with a sword, so he felt that it was only fitting that he be killed by one as well. After a few moments the man pulled his swords away from Sai and lifted him back on to his feet.

He introduced himself as Terao and that he was a trained swordsman. He saw a degree of honesty and purity in Sai, and wanted him to walk the right path. Terao told Sai to come with him to learn swordsmanship in order gain purpose and control. Hesitant to take the offer of a stranger that nearly killed him Sai almost turned him down. However, after standing there for a few minutes Sai decided to follow this man and see what he had to offer.

When the two finally arrived to their destination Terao began to teach Sai. Terao was taught in the Ninten Ichi-Ryu style,(Two heavens as one) and now so would Sai. Terao believed this was the best way for Sai to fully utilize his skills with two katanas. For four years Terao pushed Sai to his limits nonstop, nearly killed him a multitude of times. On top of his physical skill Terao taught him to read, write, and even how to use mathematics.

By the time Sai was twenty one years old he had become a completely different person. He was a skilled swordsman in Ninten Ichi-Ryu, as well as an intellectual and kind being. On his last day of training Terao gave Sai two gifts for completing his rigorous training. The first was a pair of finely crafted katanas, meant to indicate that he was a new person. The second was a map with the location of Sai's mother and brother. During the years of training Terao had taken the time to locate Sai's family. It was so that he could reconnect with them and show them how much he could change.

Sai thanked Terao from the bottom of his heart and promised to come back in due time. He then made his way to Fukui with something he never had before now, a purpose. He then traveled for days to reach the people he left behind years ago. When Sai finally arrived to his old village he looked on in horror to see what was had happened. The village was being over run by bandits, who were killing any one they found and burning homes to the ground. Seeing this Sai rushed into the village, swords in hand ready to stop these bandits.

He easily overpowered majority of the bandits with no problem. The teachings of Ninten Ichi-Ryu made him practically unstoppable among these low lifes. As Sai made his way into the center of the village he heard the sound of two people crying for help. The noise was coming from a burning building. He made his way in to find them huddled in the corner, trying to avoid the fire.

Sai was shocked when he saw that the two people were in fact his own mother and brother. He then moved like lightning to get them out of the fire and to safety. Once out of the house his mother and brother looked at their savior and slowly realized who it was. They both smiled at the sight of Sai, for the first time they felt like a family.

This joyous moment was cut short when an arrow went flying into Sai's back. Fear and shock came over their faces at seeing this, all Sai could feel was pain like never before. Looking down he saw the faces of his family before turning around to see who hit him. Sai saw that the remainder of the bandits had regrouped to hunt him down. Standing there with an arrow in his back Sai looked back at his family with a smile, before he faced off with the bandits.

Charging in Sai began to plow through most of the bandits with ease. The archers in the back continued to fire upon Sai, however he continued to cut each one of them down despite how many arrows hit him. Within the span of a minute Sai had cut down all the bandits but for the last two archers. With a sinister smirk on his face he used his two katanas and lopped their heads clean off their bodies. Turning around Sai looked over to his brother and mother with a gentle smile on his face, it was the last act he did before he fell to the ground and died.

The next thing Sai remembers was opening his eyes and seeing his old village from the sky. He looked around to see that he was floating through the air. His weapons were no longer with him but a chain hanging from his chest. It took him a few days but Sai eventually realized he was dead, he was now a spirit now. He was confused and did not understand what to do in this situation.

After spending a few days figuring out how to move around Sai went back down to the village. His hopes were that somehow he could speak to his family. As he reached the ground he noticed a burial site for the villagers who died the day of the bandit attack. At the center of the site was Sai's grave, which caused him to feel great sadness. He eventually found his way to his family, yet had no way of getting in touch with them. As much as he tried to reach them they never heard or saw him.

A thought began to develop in his mind that sparked a bit of joy in him. It was hope that Terao would have a better chance in seeing him. Sai left the village and made his way to find his sensei. After days of flying Sai arrived to Terao, and as he feared the same results happened here as well. Defeated Sai had no idea what to do from here and simply drifted around without a single thought.

For one hundred years Saith simply drifted through Japan, waiting to see what would happen next. Every few years Sai would make his way back to his old village to see what progress his family was making. Strange enough when both his mother and brother had eventually passed away Sai could not find them. Sai began to assume that this world was his hell, for the murder he committed so long ago. During this time Sai notice the chain in his chest slowly corrode.

He became very curious about what would happen when it vanished. After a hundred years Sai's chain was nearing its end, which was causing him tremendous pain. He couldn't figure why he was feeling such pain, being dead and all but he knew it was real. All the sudden as he was keeled over in pain he looked up and saw a woman. She was in a strange black outfit holding a katana. Confused and in pain Sai asked who she was, to which she responded with the name Shinigami.

Looking up he saw that she had a smile on her face as she lowered the hilt of her katana towards his forehead. Sai was greatly confused about what was going on. All that was going through his mind was if he could die again. When the end of the hilt made contact with his head he saw a bright light and the pain had faded.

As the light faded Sai saw that he was somewhere new. There were multiple people walking around what looked like a large town. Sai asked a nearby man where he was, he told him that he was in the 68th district of the southern rukongai. He looked at the man with a completely confused expression, which was enough for him to know that Sai was new to the Soul Society. He explained to Sai everything that he knew about the Soul Society, and the Shinigami that keep order in most of the land.

When Sai asked what he meant by that the man told him that the closer one gets to the 80th districts the more dangerous they become. As he explained this Sai heard a group of children screaming. The noise was just around the corner from where he was. As he made his way to the noise he saw a man with a sword held in front of the children. Sai walked up to ask what the problem was, and the man explained that the children made him spill his alcohol. Sai asked the children if they were sorry and told them to apologize, but the man did not care.

As he went to swing his blade down at the children Saith stopped the man mid-attack. He was able to knocked him unconscious in a single swift attack. He told the children to run along an be careful from now on. He then picked up the man's sword, told him he was going to take, and advised him not to hurt anyone else. It was not much good though he obviously couldn't hear Sai.

Sai eventually grew use to living in the Rukongai, and for the next two hundred and thirty five years made many friends. He also protected many residents from harm with his sword skills. He had done so much for the people in the 68th Southern District that he was often the go to guy whenever a problem would arise. Sai was happy that he could be useful to these people, and was even more grateful of the skills Terao taught him. One fateful day however an uprising from the 75th southern district. It was attempting to march into the Seireitei to over throw the Shinigami.

As this mob made its way into the 68th district Sai stood there alone. He asked them to stop their destruction and return where they came from. Laughing at this the mob began to charge after Sai, who made quick work of the fools that charged at him. The crowd began to charge at Sai who continued to fight them in order to protect the innocent people of his district. After a few opponents their numbers had started to become too much for Sai on his own. It was beginning to look like he was done for yet again.

All of a sudden however Sai was no longer alone, as group of men and women suddenly appeared to put an end to this impending revolt. Sai knew from their uniforms that they were in fact Shinigami. With their help they all easily stopped the entire revolt. As the fight came to an end one of the Shinigami walked up to Sai and asked why someone with reiatsu wasn't in the Shinigami academy. Sai looked at him with confusion but was told about the academy and how it would lead to Saith becoming a Shinigami himself if he was skilled enough.

Eventually Sai entered the academy in hopes to become a Shinigami and learn even more techniques. At the start of the academy they gave Sai a single bokken, which he wasn't a fan of. During his first practice in Zanjutsu training Sai was losing against his opponent. However he was able to grab a second bokken off another student. With two bokkens in hand Sai was able to use Ninten Ichi-Ryu, and easily over powered his opponent.

He thought he would have gotten in trouble for his actions, but the instructors were impressed with his skills. He showed enough talent that they allowed him another bokken. For the next few years Sai went through the academy learning what he could. His physical skills were greatly improving, though his kidō skills were not that great. When the time came Sai eventually graduated the academy. He was giving an Asauchi pair due to his skill with two blades. After graduation Sai made his way back to the 68th Southern District. He wanted to show all the people who looked up to him how successful he became. A few days after Sai was offered the chance to join the third division and accepted the offer without hesitation.

Combat

Strengths

- Skilled Swordsman:
Sai was taught in the art of Niten Ichi-Ryu that incorporates the use of two blades in combat. Traditionally the style was taught to uses both a katana and a wakizashi. Sai however has been trained to utilize two katanas at once. With this style Sai is able to fight offensively and defensively at the same time.

In combat Sai will hold one sword traditional style with the blade facing outward. The other katana will be held in reverse style with the dull edge of the blade resting along his arm. The katana in reverse grip will be used as a means to defend oncoming attacks, while the other blade is used to strike. Sai can switch the blades between the two grips by twirling the hilt with a flick of his wrist. This allows Sai to switch which side of his body is in defense and offense in mid-combat with ease. Due to this the Niten Ichi-Ryu style makes Sai very difficult to predict in combat

- Tactician:
Sai's training has taught him to think before he acts. Capable of thinking on his feet and adapting to changes quickly Sai's brain is his greatest weapon

- Agility:
Sai has shaped his body to be as quick and agile as physically possible. His reaction time has been honed to its peak capabilities.

Weaknesses

- Physical Strength: While Sai possess great speed and agility he lacks superior physical strength. It is a sacrifice he made in order to obtain his agility.

- Kidō: Sai has no talent what so ever for Kidō based skills. He had made the attempt to learn these abilities back in his academy days but failed to learn even the most basic spells. Sai is strictly a Zanjutsu based fighter

- Stubbornness:

Sai can be stubborn to a fault sometimes, if he becomes determined to accomplish something he usually does not know when to quit. This can even sometimes put the people he wishes to protect in danger.
