Appearance
With around 5 feet and 11 inches high and weighting around 182 pounds, Ryou is a tall and muscular built guy, with neck long dark brown hair and brown eyes. Uses the same black robe as other shinigami but without his right sleeve.
Personality
When talking to strangers, Ryou shows a gentle attitude, always showing the out-most respect. Around friends he tends to loosen up but dislikes been around too much people, he hates crowded places, preferring a quiet place where he can talk peacefully and clearly to his friends. Overall Ryou is a very good friend that anyone can count on. But while in battle most of this changes, as Ryou lets all is hate for hollows out, charging forward with little regard for his on safety, he feels acts and thinks like a totally different person, giving cold glares to his enemies and the friends that stop him. Although even in this state he will immediately charge to a different target that's threatening an ally.
History
Orphan since birth, Ryou never had the luck to have a family, and although he was on a well-funded government-sponsored foster home, he always felt alone. After his tenth birthday, he started to see things that weren't there, and because of that he was mocked by others of his age.As a result he started to lash out, quickly silencing the ones that insulted him, using his beyond average size and strength to beat even the older ones. After seeing this anger, the tutors asked a close by martial academy to take him in, so that he could learn to control his anger. But the fees were high so in order to reduce them Ryou had to work, on his free time, at the martial art school, cleaning and storing material that wasn't in use. By his fifteenth birthday, he was already the best of his class by achieving the 1st degree black belt, and becoming a junior instructor at the school.Although a calmer gentler young man, his visions were getting worse, more detailed, and even though he didn't tell anyone, the visions where starting to affect him directly. Until, 2 weeks from his 16th birthday, he felt a strange sensation, and as he turned all he was able to see was a white mask with teeth, before everything faded to black. While Ryou was unconscious, the shinigami that was in charge of the town, arrived and killed the hollow without much effort. The shinigami not seeing any advantage to wake up Ryou, performed kousou while he was still blacked out, and moved on.
Ryou woke in a small poor district of Rukongai, after a few minutes trying to remember what happened, a small girl (around 7 years old) approached him, introducing herself as Naomi Hasegawa. After sometime talking she lead him to her house, where her 'parents' welcomed him and treated him like family even if they never meet before. But Ryou had many questions, and the Hasegawa family tried their best to explain the situation to him. Ryou didn't know what to think, but after a few moments of silence Naomi asked him if he wanted to stay them for a few days, till he could find his way. Her parents didn't see any inconvenience to this and agreed, since they were only 3, and the house had space for one more. Ryou accepted without realizing. As days, turned to weeks and the weeks turned to months, the Hasegawa family were now 4 in total, being 1 the little girl Naomi, her young mother Katsumi, her frail looking but gentle father Yuu, and now Ryou was accepted as a member of the family. Has the years passed, Ryou became stronger and hungrier, and because of that he had to work hard. Naomi never left his side even while he worked, they became very close during the 1st days after Ryou became a Hasegawa. Naomi always said she liked the way Ryou helped others. But due to the nature of the district and some of the people that lived in it, Ryou became very protective over Naomi, specially when remembering some stories from his other life.
6 year had passed and Ryou was happy and barely remembered his former life, keeping the kempo knowledge due to continuous practice over the years. His reiatsu as grow ever since his arrival, he was the only one in his family, and he was advised by many people he knew to join the academy. But he didnt care about it, he only wanted to stay with his family and to protect his little sister. After sometime the people stopped talking about it, and everything returned to normal. But one day, while Ryou and his family where gathering food from the near by woods, something caught his attention. It was a feeling, something that he hadn't felt for a long time, something he hadn't felt since he died. Ryou turned and he saw what he now knew to be a hollow, and between them, was his family. Before he knew it, his sister hitted the tree beside him and fell lifeless on the ground, while the rest of the family was torn apart, by the beast's claws. Ryou froze, he couldn't believe what just happened. By the time he realized it the hollow was 2 feet away from him, but he couldn't do anything, he didn't want to do anything. On the last second a shinigami appeared and killed the hollow. The shinigami approached, while Ryou knelled staring at his sister corpse. Before the shinigami left, he told Ryou that he had been lucky, usually the hollow goes for the one with highest reiatsu. It was then that it hitted him. He wasn't strong, he was weak, too weak. If he had joined the academy he could have protected his family, better yet his family wouldn't be there to begin with. Something snapped inside him, he would never be the same. A few days later, after he had buried his family, and the tears had dried, Ryou joined the academy.
During the first months he didn't make any friends, everyone that tried to make contact was either shaken off or ignored, but with time the most persistent started to be part of his daily life, and he slowly started to return to his normal behavior. But the dead of his family still haunted him, and every time he fought even in practice, those memories would rise up, and the fury from being powerless at that time consumed him, if it wasn't for his kempo training and fast reflexes, he would have lost many of those fights. He knew he had to do something about it or he would just be killed by the 1st strong hollow he would encounter, so he started practicing kempo on his free time to relax, but all he felt was anger and fury no matter how hard he tried to suppress those feelings. So he swore to himself, that if couldn't stop them he should control and aim them, so that they would become a strength and not a weakness. After the 6 years of the academy where over, he was known by the aggressiveness that he demonstrated in battle when attacking or supporting an ally, which won him the respect of many fellow students.
After leaving the academy, Ryou was assigned to the eleventh squad, one known for the close combat prowess of its shinigami. And although Ryou did not care much for the reasons he got there, he did his best to rise fast in the ranks, working hard every day, in order to become strong and be recognized.
During this time he made a few friends, although ones were just annoying. But what really mattered to Ryou was that he's strength was finally recognized, and he was assigned to participate on a cross squad investigation in Okumichi City, in the human world.
But that 'test' taught him some things he wasn't expecting. Not only there were things stronger than hollows, but he was also still weak.
Still this ordeal only made his convictions stronger, and he kept practising and practising, every spare time he had from duties were spent training. Until one day he was assigned a routine patrol in Okumichi.
It was nothing as important as the previous assignment, but still a way to test his improvement. But again, he could not be ready for what he was going to learn.
In this patrol, Ryou met an arrancar called Maya, that was trying to save a little kid from a horde of hollow. Of course Ryou's main concern at that point was to kill every hollow he came across, while the arrancar was actually the only one to care for the kid. Ryou came to know that the previous opponent he had fought, was in fact only defending herself and that her name was Kovou.
Although Ryou had always only wished to eliminate all hollow and arrancar, he was now curious about this two he just met. And in this confusion, he came to face a quinchy and more hollow, both life and death battles. At the end of the day, he was alone.
Now realizing how the world was not how he had painted it, Ryou struggles to get on the right path while still trying to keep promises made to the dead.
Combat
Strengths
His hate for Hollows make him endure the most incredible pain in order to continue fighting. Has a very good learning capabilities, as he is capable of learning from his own mistakes, never taking more than 2 tries to get what he's learning right. This also allows him to learn his opponents moves, effectively finding a weak spot.
Weaknesses
His anger towards hollow's also tends to make him reckless during battle, making him forfeit defense most of the times, which can be dangerous at close combat. Although Ryou has good learning capabilities,he hates to study, and as such he has trouble remembering the chants of the little kidō he knows. Also Ryou tends to jump to conclusions on how to counter his foe, ending up failing to hit his foe and being wide open for an attack.
