Appearance
Ren stands at a height of five feet and ten inches, making him taller than the rest of his family. He has short black hair that he normally wears which ever way it looks when getting out of bed. The most unique feature about Ren is his eye color, which is an amber red. He is often found wearing a dark blue shirt with a blue short sleeved hoodie over it, a pair of tan jeans, and black working boots.
Personality
Ren is an incredibly carefree and lazy individual, almost to a fault. Where as certain situations and events may cause most people to worry or stress out, Ren can usually be found either not paying attention or sleeping. However, beneath this slacker vibe that he normally gives off is a bright and calculating mind. The problem is that Ren would more often try to enjoy the simple things in life than getting worked up over bigger issues. In situations that Ren has no choice but to take things seriously he will put his mind and his training to good use. Very protective of the people he considers his friends, Ren will use his powers in any way necessary to help save them from being harmed. Once the crisis has been handled however, chances are that Ren will immediately go back to his usual slacker self.
History
Before Ren was born his father, Ryota was a Quincy living in Tokyo. There he did his part in eradicating hollows and protecting the innocent humans lives while attending college. Things were going well for Ren's father in those days, his skills as a Quincy were among the best and his day life was turning out great. While in school Ryota had ended up falling in love with a girl from his engineering class, Yuri. The relationship between the two quickly became serious as Ryota found himself deeply in love. One night before Ryota was to go out with Yuri he decided to roam the streets and take care of a few hollows that had shown up in the city. The Quincy made quick work out of most of them, but was more concerned about being on time than finishing off the threat. Due to this he had missed a single hollow that followed the Quincy with out his noticing. Once he finally caught up with Yuri the hollow made his move, striking at the Quincy's love as a means of revenge. Ryota was able to destroy the hollow before it could kill Yuri, but she was severely injured in the process.
Yuri would spend some time in the hospital, recovering from a wound that baffled most of the doctors. While she was recovering Ryota blamed himself for what happened. Not being able to face himself in the mirror Ryota believed he failed as a Quincy as was no longer fit to wield such power. He then turned his back on his Quincy heritage, vowing to take care of Yuri and never letting that part of his life harm her again. After a few years the two eventually graduated from college, and upon Ryota receiving a job in the USA he proposed to Yuri. After their wedding the two moved out to New York City where Ren was born. Upon his birth Ryota made a promise to himself to never let his son know about the world of Quincy, Shinigami, and Hollows. The family would live a very peaceful and happy life in the city for sometime. However, as Ren grew older the boy began to notice strange things going on around him.
By the time Ren was five he was able to see spirits, which he found strange. At that age he couldn't hear them but as he grew older Ren was able to interact with them more. At the age of ten Ren was now able to see and talk with any spirit he saw, no longer finding it weird but enjoyable. However at the same time Ren also was seeing faint images of strange creatures. Confused by all this Ren spoke to his parents about the strange creatures he was seeing. Yuri, who had no clue about any of this, simply thought her son was seeing things. Ryota on the other, knowing full well Ren was seeing hollows, lied and agreed with his wife. Once Ren had reached the age of fifteen he was now able to see the hollows as clearly as he could any other spirit. This of course was bad news for the young boy, since the hollows were now aware of his ability to see him. On one fateful occasion a hollow, after realizing Ren could see him, decided to chase after the boy and consume his soul. Ren ran as fast as he could from the creature only he could see but eventually trapped himself in an alleyway. His back against a wall Ren was scared for his life as the hollow inched closer towards him.
As soon as the creature leaped towards him, Ren reacted in fear as he lifted his hands to defend himself. The combination of fear, stress, and his survival instinct triggered the dormant powers within Ren. A sudden burst of blue light and gusting blast of wind ripped through alleyway, startling Ren in the process. As the dust settled Ren saw that he was still alive and unharmed. At the other end of the alleyway was the hollow, ripped to shreds before it dissipated into the air. Not being able to comprehend what had just happened Ren ran home, confused and scared over the confrontation. Once he reached his home Ren ran straight to his father and frantically told him what just happened. Ryota want to desperately continue lying to Ren and hope that everything would just pass. The former Quincy knew however that it was a foolish dream and figured it was time for Ren to know about his heritage. It was almost impossible for Ren to take in everything he had just learned, but after some time he was able to understand what his father had told him. Ryota stated that the only way Ren would be able to defend himself was if he learned to control the power he possessed. Despite every fiber of his being wishing to say no, Ryota told Ren that he would teach him in the ways of the Quincy.
As the two began their training Ryota first taught Ren how to be aware of his own spiritual pressure and the reishi in atmosphere around him. Though it took some time Ren was eventually able to learn how to gather reishi much like his father. the next step was to teach Ren how to use that reishi and form it into an arrow, the signature attack of the Quincy. This was the point of confusion in Ren's training however, as the process went down a strange road. Despite all of Ren's best efforts he was never able to form the gathered reishi into a bow and arrow using his father's artifact. Instead the energy would always be released into a burst of wind. Ren figured he was just terrible at forming a Quincy bow but Ryota knew there was more to the problem. It was at this moment Ryota's mind went back to that fateful day he lead a hollow to his future wife, to when she was attacked. Though she survived the attack that creature must have left some trace amounts of reiatsu within her body. The resulting action clearly leaving an effect on Ren while he was in the womb. Saddened by the fact that his son might never be able to become a Quincy Ryota was about to give up on trying to help his son learn to fight, until a thought occurred. Ryota had Ren go through what he was feeling when the how he reacted when the hollow attempted to kill him. As the rush of fear and emotions began to race through Ren's mind again his father noticed the way that the reishi around his boy was acting. As Ren lifted his arms and unleashed another burst of energy and wind Ryota couldn't help but feel astonished by this.
Ren felt embarrassed and ashamed that his powers were nothing like what a Quincy's was supposed to be. Ryota did not care at all however, as he attempted to cheer his son. It was Ryota's own fault for not be cautious that nearly killed Yuri, and gave Ren these new powers. As he smiled at Ren Ryota promised that he would help his son learn to control these powers in any way possible. Their training was intense and went through many different variation as Ren's powers grew. As the years passed however Ryota was proud of how strong his son was becoming. By the time Ren was eighteen his skilled and improved greatly and he had impressive control over his once unstable spiritual energy. This gained skill brought about an aura of laziness however, as Ren seemed less frightened by the spiritual world as he once was. Even so Ren was still smart enough to know when to focus and school and listen to what his father had to say during training. Once Ren had finished High School and graduated he was accepted to the same university that both his mother and father attended when they were younger. As Ren was getting ready to fly out to Tokyo his father informed him to keep on his training, though the lazy boy would be less inclined to do so with his father no longer over his shoulder.
Once in Tokyo Ren began to focus on his school work, interested in obtaining a degree in computer engineering. He proved himself to be a very intelligent individual, but without his parents telling him what to do Ren grew lazy. He began to slack in his training and whenever the opportunity arose chances were you could find Ren napping. It wasn't until one day, heading back from classes that Ren saw the spirit of two children being chased by a hollow. Though he did not know them, or they him, Ren couldn't help but want to save them both. As the hollow reached closer to the two children they both looked on in fear, thinking they were about to be eaten. At the last second Ren appeared, using his unique powers to destroy the hollow and save the children. As the two young spirits thank Ren for saving them one asked if he had come from Okumichi City. Ren looked at them with a puzzled expression as he asked what they were talking about. The spirits told Ren about a city in Japan where a lot of spiritual activity occurred. Intrigued by the information Ren had received the young man figured he would go check this city out and see what sort of spiritual beings lived there. This plan however was put on hold...for three years due to a combination of school work and laziness. By the time Ren had finished his school work he finally decided to go about and check out this Okumichi City and what it had to offer. Now that he has finally arrived Ren is curious to see if he can find anyone with similar power like him. His hopes being to further learn how to hone these unique powers, and become a proud and powerful fighter just like his father was.
Combat
Strengths
Calculating: Despite his overly laid back attitude Ren is a rather intelligent individual. Capable of thinking quick on his feet Ren will often prepare a strategy before going into combat. Rarely caught by surprise Ren is usually planning three steps ahead of his opponent while in combat.
Speed: Through his training with his father Ren learned to be quick on his feet while fighting. Due to this Ren is surprisingly fast compared to someone of average human speed. His speed and agility allow Ren to move more fluidly on the battlefield. However, despite his Quincy heritage the unique set-up of Ren's reiatsu prevents him from learning the Hirenkyaku technique.
Weaknesses
Lazy: Ren is an incredibly lazy individual who often enjoys slacking off instead of working. More often than not, Ren can be found sleeping on a park bench or day dreaming instead of doing something actually productive. Convincing or making Ren actually do something is a task in of itself and often a pointless one. Only in dire situation will Ren actually feel the need to start taking part in resolving a conflict.
Strength: Ren's body structure prevents him from being able to build up a lot of muscle. He is capable of throwing some pretty solid punches, but one hit knock outs are impossible to
