Appearance
Personality
Rain's personality differs depending on whether he is in battle or not. He is comparatively young to all other shinigami, which is one of the reasons he feels the drive to work so hard. While outside of battle, his true age may show in ways of immaturity or nonchalance to the seriousness of certain matters. Also, it is revealed by his fun loving and playful nature with even superiors.
However, in battle it is like a switch being turned. If it is a simple hollow battle, he may engage in banter and somewhat enjoy himself. However, in serious matters the once playful and talkative teenager is now replaced with a silent and determined demeanor. The ruthlessness and fighting spirit nature of his division is brought out to the forefront of his personality at times like that.
When it comes to everything, he is an energetic and talk-active type person. However, despite this he ends up acting somewhat shy around new people. As he hates making a bad first impression so sometimes that leaves him to make no impression at all. Though, upon recently under situations where he has to speak with new people his social skills in that department has gotten better.
History
Rain's mother was Japanese while his father was African-American. They happened to meet because his father was a Marine based over in Tokyo. They met by chance of bumping into each other, and Rain's father Korey was surprised by the hospitality that his future wife shown. It was as simple as meeting in the same market on a particularly hot day. He spent weeks pursuing her interests and eventually they went on their first date. They soon after started dating one another. And before long Korey's stint with the Marines was over, which was when he had asked Rain's mother Rai to come with him back to his hometown. Of course she agreed and they moved over seas back to his hometown over to Atlanta, Georgia.
Not even a year later, Rai announced she was pregnant with Rain. At first, he was to be named after his father but when Rai's father died from a heart attack, they decided his grandfather's name which was Rain was more appropriate for their child to honor his memory. What Rai never told her spouse, was that her father and at one time she was a Fullbringers that used to fight to protect their area. This placed unnecessary guilt upon Rai, as she felt she had abandoned her father and in turn was the reason for his death.
This was one the reasons, she babied her son more than most mothers. She knew odds were that her son would be a Fullbringer as well. However, what she didn't know was that her sons strength came from both sides of the family. As Korey had untapped potential that had never awakened. Rain already was having weird feelings and vaguely sensing spirits at a young age. Which would manifest as random crying fits or anger when he couldn't otherwise express it. Rai being able to sense the power her son possessed, and knew it was important to make sure he was kept safe.
She didn't know the true name of hollows, so they were merely called ghosts or demons by her.She explained to him at the age of 10 what was happening to him. This in a way made him feel more relieved, as he had been feeling like a freak for most of his life. He was finally able to completely ignore them, as they for the most part were rare and few between in their area.
However, when Rai and Rain were walking over down the street they were attacked by two Gillian hollows and were quickly overwhelmed as Rain ended being a major distraction for Rai. Rai told Rain to run and tried to take the two Gillian's herself but the last thing Rain heard was his mother's screaming and then seeing the Gillian's descending on him literally extracting his soul from his body and preparing to feast on him as well. When a black robed swordsman came and made quick work of them. Then giving Rain a soul burial before Rain had an idea of what was going on. Upon entering the Rukongai, he quickly gathered information about the mysterious black robed people and took himself to the place rumored to be an Academy to learn their arts. However, he was broke and pretty far so he had no idea of how to get there. He tried getting a job and earning the money but after saving enough he got jumped for his money.
He was determined to be like the man that saved him. So he started working out and still going to work earning enough to learn basic hand to hand fighting techniques. He'd usually learn them by passing by trainers. Then, when he managed to amass enough money to leave once more, he was greeted by the same thugs from last time. This time the encounter started off well, until the numbers began to get to him. As soon as he managed to cry out, he aimed at the biggest kid in the group.
He swung with everything he had and managed to knock the boy out. Rain took off running with his money, making using of his working out to get to the roof-tops. This is where he could get away safely, however once more a black robed man who seemed to be patrolling the area found him. He had seen the skirmish began and followed the skirmish. He posed a offer to Rain, if he went back and fought he'd take him to the Academy. Rain swallowed his fear and went back down to face them. Rain was beaten but had managed to put up a good fight. As promised the man took him back to the Academy. He excelled in his fighting techniques in the Academy.
Academy for him was not easy for at all. It wasn't that he was inept in strength but that he had a hard time believing instructors. It was because he was so new to the Spirit while others had their reiastu stored, he had to push harder to make it grow quicker. Though, he couldn't see his own progress and had to rely on what the instructors said. And you can't really train toward something you can't believe in. It wasn't till two lower ranked division 11 shinigami had demonstrated a fight that he saw the power and strength he could hold. This pushed him forward with new determination to grow stronger. He heard Division 11 was home for warriors which made him go after and achieve a spot in Division 11.
Combat
Strengths
When it comes to information, Rain is very smart. Most times he does not have to be told things more than once.
Ruthlessness.
Able to ignore some pain, while in battle his pain tolerance is higher.
Weaknesses
Doesn't take things seriously, while situations may be dire if not for his own sanity he tends to ignore it in put everything in a light mood.
Will not leave anyone behind, no matter what is going on he will always go back for a fallen comrade.
And has a to disobey orders based off how he feels.
Does not see or know his own limits.
Forms attachments to people quickly, almost to the point where it's uncanny.
Is very naive about how evil people truly can be.
