Appearance

Okuni

Okuni is a tall-ish woman, at about 170 cm. Her bodytype is slim, though not thin, and you can definitely tell she's not been sitting in the corner looking pretty all her life. Pale-skinned, Okuni has an unusual colour for both her eyes and her hair, somewhere between tea rose pink and rose bonbon pink. Her hair is long, well to her behind when unbound, and pin-straight; she often wears it on a simple high ponytail. She has a tattoo on her forehead and over the right side of her face, meaning nothing in particular, and again in pink colour. Over her left eye, a jagged scar seals that eye shut which is just as well, seeing as how there really isn't anything behind the eyelid anymore. Her face is pleasant enough to look at, round in shape and distinctly feminine. Her chest is quite average in comparison to some of the spectacularly huge cans some of the shinigami women have been gifted with: hers are a bit more than a handful, enough to show she has a pair but not enough to be a big hinderance in the field.

Okuni prefers to wear her uniform so that the kosode top remains long but loosely tied, and the hakama pants have been replaced with short shorts, as if she took the hakama pants and just cut off most of the pantlegs. The right sleeve of the top is long and tattered at the edges, while the left sleeve is normal in length, and she wears a metal brace protecting the back of her hand and her forearm on her left arm. The sleeve of her right arm is long in an effort to compensate for the fact that she no longer has a right arm, just a stump: she lost it in a battle gone bad, and ended up losing it from about halfway above her elbow and between her shoulder.

On her feet Okuni wears white knee-high tabisocks and the regular shinigami shoes. If it's a day off, or she's otherwise relaxing off-duty, Okuni is most likely in a colourful, red and dark blue kimono with yellow details and a decorated obi, and walking in leather boots.

Personality

Okuni, at present, is a shadow of her former self. She used to be smiley, positive, energetic, a real bundle of joy most people would welcome, chattering about everything and pretty much bounced around as if the whole world was made of sunshine and rainbows and puppydogs. After taking part in the mission that cost her an eye and an arm, as well as two teammates (not to mention the bodily harm and disfiguration done to her other teammates), Okuni's personality seems to have done a sharp 180. She's harboring some fairly clear PTSD symptoms, she's withdrawn, she's morose, she dove right into the pessimist-end of the pool. Her usual daily routine consist of her pretty much getting up, do her job, get home, get drunk, cry a bit and feel sorry for herself, go to sleep and repeat it again in the morning.

Though as muted as she has become, she's still trying to maintain a few rays of sunshine in herself. She'll joke (as far as you can call gallows-humour joking), be polite, and if she's having a particularly good day, she'll even make light of her injuries. But on the flipside, Okuni is very likely to injure you if YOU make light of her injuries, or point them out callously or rub the fact that she's missing things in her face, EVEN IF she's having a good day. The only way to get away with it would be to be her friend, but after the incident, friendship has not been plentiful from her or towards her. Still, self-pity and survivor's guilt aside, the fact that she still made it into a shinigami and keeps going should be a fairly good testament to the overall inner strength she posesses. Okuni knows she's not 100%, she knows she's weaker than most others by default, but it'll be a cold day in hell before she lies down and gives up because it's easier than going on.

History

Okuni was born into a regular Soul Society family somewhere around the 30th District, and spent a fairly average, fun-filled childhood. She learned to read, write, play ball, play nice, walk, run, talk, sing, like every other kid on the block. There was nothing dramatic or soul-shattering in it, just your usual fights with the family and friends but everything worked out in the end, which molded Okuni into a happy, sunny personality and always ready to meet people and help here and there: overall just being a nice girl. That being said, she did get engaged to a boy from another household due to an arranged marriage agreement between the families, and while she wasn't thrilled there wasn't anything wrong with the boy (she didn't like him but she didn't dislike him either, really), so... What the hell, might as well try.

Okuni was scouted in her teen years and she joined the shinigami academy, putting her impending marriage on hold for a while. Though very early on in her training, Okuni decided that even if she was married, she would not give up being a shinigami regardless of what was ordered. In classes, she was somewhere in the slightly above average-end of the spectrum, but seemed to do particularly well with tracking and survival exercises. Before she knew it, she was placed in a team of other graduate hopefuls and they were deemed good and ready for a try at a Hollow in real world, supervised by a teacher and in a team, but it was a practice run in the real world. Piece of cake!

Only it wasn't. The patrol went awry when a vengeful Hollow, carrying a grudge against the supervisor attacked the group. Since the teacher had last clashed with the Hollow, it had grown a good deal stronger, and easily defeated the teacher. But before he would kill the shinigami, he said, he would tear apart his little students so the last thing the shinigami would hear was their terrified screams of agony. The Hollow proceeded to attack the students, who were grossly out-classed by it, and before the reinforcements responded to a call for help and arrived, the Hollow had eaten two students, and had injured and mangled the other five badly, Okuni included. The Hollow was beaten in the end, and ironically, it was only the teacher who would make the full recovery.

Though Okuni wasn't the one who recieved the worst of it, she still didn't get off easy like one of the students (who only had some visible, though rather gruesome, scarring). Her arm had been torn clear off and the medics couldn't save her eye, the best they could do is clean the physical damage a bit and hope it healed alright. The psychological damage was a completely another matter entirely. None of the survivors were ever the same, one of them left the Academy and the other three badly injured, Okuni included, were given a future of deskjob at best due to their diminished capabilities. It was at this time the arranged marriage was called off, as the bland man she was supposed to marry couldn't bear the thought of marrying something clearly not in pristine condition. Okuni probably would've been insulted by this call, if it hadn't been for the fact that she had bigger things to worry about, and to be honest, the man had never aroused any greater emotional response with her other than "meh".

It took Okuni about two years to get in terms with her new body, and work out the worst of her issues, after which she demanded she be allowed back to the Academy, but also that she would be allowed to start from scratch.

She was allowed to start over (whether it was from sympathy, understandment or pity she didn't know and didn't really care) and she eventually completed her training, even her second trial run in the real world went off without a hitch. Now graduated, broken and bruised but not beaten, she's taking her place in the ranks of the 3rd Division, hoping to carry on the spirit and legacy of her fallen teammates with her. Maybe one day she'd even find some peace of mind herself.

Combat

Strengths

Shoulder to the wheel / Survivor - It's against Okuni's nature to give up: she'll keep going and going until she expires, making her mindset ideal for a 3rd Division tracker, even if she can't seem to let go of the bone once she's got it in her jaws.

Ingenuity - Working without an arm and an eye forces Okuni to think a bit more creatively, and if one of her plans fails, she'll come up with a new one from plan A to plan Z if needed and then start on numbers when the letters run out.

Team player - Okuni is most comfortable with a team, or at least a partner, and usually works well with whatever she's assigned to, and given enough time or times with some people may even transition to working near-seamlessly and without vocal commands.

Weaknesses

Half blind - Literally, she doesn't have the use of her left eye.

One-armed - Forces her to do some creative thinking in fights, but all in all, the lack of one arm reduces the power of her swings somewhat, not to mention her center of gravity and tumbling on the ground.

PTSD - Though usually steady, Okuni's psyche is fragile when it comes to that one event, what happened, and to her team. Any team she's on, really: making her remember that event can have unforseen results, more often than not of the disasterous kind.
