Appearance
Long black hair, narrow black eyes, moderate height frame (5'5"), with no signs of any extraordinary capabilities, Niriko is your run-of-the mill, standard shinigami, fresh out of the academy. She does, however, differentiate herself through her choice of attire, at the very least. Her shinigami uniform consists of the same types of clothing as her peers, except she wears pants instead of hakama that reach down to her ankles. Her kosode has extended sleeves so her hands are usually covered, meaning she'd have to roll them up some for fights. Aside from that, though, everything's the same.
Personality
Her youth makes her more brazen and naive compared to most others, although said naivete doesn't surface frequently. She isn't the best at keeping her emotions down either, getting easily flustered over what most others would consider something light. Still, she's a girl of simple wants and dreams, despite the fact that she'll fight you tooth and nail like a cornered rat if it comes down to it.
History
In early years, Niriko wasn't the best at living life, if only because she was an orphan at a young age after her parents mysteriously vanished one day, leaving her and two others to fend for themselves. Although they never really got into true danger, it was starvation that really kept them at bay from satisfaction, and her initial attempt at stealing food was thwarted, making her never want to do it again after being beat half to death.
The girl tried so hard to make ends meet for her stomach, and the natural grace of being fleet of foot came to her in a bid of fortune as she tried to hunt. While catching boars didn't work out so well, a nearby rabbit was easily scooped up. As for eating it... well. Lucky someone else was there, more experienced to help her out in return for half of the rabbit.
The exiled vagabond and Niriko lived on meager provisions every time, eating rabbits and squirrels daily. It wasn't nearly enough to keep them in check, but in the end, a shinigami on patrol saw Niriko's ability to catch a swiftly moving rabbit. Impressed, she was given an invitation to become a shinigami. Niriko's only condition was to bring the vagabond along. By all means; they both had more reiatsu than the average soul.
The first couple of years of the academy went smoothly, and the streak continued until the fourth year, on a "controlled" mission to kill a hollow in the Rukon district, the hollow proved a little too strong initially, killing off a group of trainees. Among them was Niriko's friend, the vagabond. While the mission was an overall success in the end, she couldn't really be happy anymore without the man to guide her steps.
After seeing her grades drop and her chance to become a shinigami in jeopardy, Niriko focused again, this time in memory of her late friend who helped her and inspired her before her academy days. Ultimately, the girl graduated years later, earning her a slot to the Gotei 13. She still keeps herself in check in hard times by thinking of her first friend.
Combat
Strengths
A good mix of perseverance and stamina, which means it'll take a lot to bring her spirits down in combat. A steadily growing level of reiatsu.
Weaknesses
Her usual level of initial frantic makes her hesitate, leading to getting hit fairly often.
