Appearance

Nebi is what he is, a completely white Turkish Van kedisi; a small, white cat with a long, fluffy tail. A semi-longhair species, his fur is fascinatingly water-resistant and soft to the touch. He has the body of a swimmer; strong legs and a nicely sized body make up most of his athletics in and out of water. His back legs are slightly longer than the front ones, though they are not so long as to cause notable disproportion. His broad chest and mixed eyes (heterochromia) are other immediately notable features of the feline.

While it is fun to prowl about as a cat, there are times when even Nebiri must take on a more humane form to deal with a situation. Thus, he has a personalized gigai for any such occasion; At 4 foot 7, it takes the appearance of a young boy, most likely yet to reach puberty; Similar to the cat itself, the gigai's hair is long and white, and stops at his waistline. Normally, it'll be tied back into a long ponytail, with two long bangs down on each side, which reveals more of his youthful face. Humorously, atop his head is a pair of seemingly mechanical cat ears, very similar to his own natural cat ears. So feminine is the body (and accompanying voice) that it is quite easy to mistake Nebi for a girl when in his gigai. He calls the body his 'Prima Doll', referencing 'Prima', an affectionate nickname he picked up from his time in the shinigami academy.

Personality

Nebi is a Turkish Van before he is anything else, and at his core, he acts like one. He is highly intellegent, even without the mental boost he recieved from his past. In battle (as rare as that is), he is the thinker, and hardly ever touches the field; Instead, he takes the part of the strategist, planning moves out so that his fellows may proceed safely. Despite this, Nebi is rarely ever seen serious. The cat, in human form or not, is almost always seen playing around in public, find some means to entertain himself.

Due to his feline nature, he is very much energetic. Nebi can play as hard and as long as most athletes; Of course, he'll then need to sleep just as long and as hard as he plays around. Despite this, he is almost always either playing about in public, teasing the other shinigami or hidden deep within the 12th division's barracks, where he'll no doubt be tampering with some experiment or machinery. He's never one to be down, nor to sit still for very long; This is contrasted when his passion for learning or creating requires him to do intense research, programming, or otherwise.

History

Nebiri "Nebi" Biribiri was born a common domestic animal. His parents met in the 'normal' way, made to mate by a breeder, and along with a litter of 3 others, Nebi came to life in the natural way. The group of young Turkish vankedisi kittens were eventually taken to a pet shop, where they would be sold individually to different buyers with similar tastes. That included Nebi, who was the second of four kittens to be purchased, but unlike his brothers and sisters, his was a very 'interesting' buyer.

She was a soul seer, and a bright young girl. Along with her parents, she entered and, within minutes, left the store with her very own little white kitten. Nebi? He hadn't even tried resisting this transaction; The girl gave off an aura which he could not resist; Like fate, he seemed to just 'know' that she was the owner for him. And, for a while, fate shined on the two. The girl, who Nebi came to know as Rika, was the perfect match for the energetic and curious little kitten. The lived a normal little life together.

However, with soul seers, nothing was ever 'normal'. In fact, that very fact changed the relationship between Nebi and the girl. She had, after all, a very interesting power; A lonely girl who lacked many friends, Rika's fullbring had the ability to give any item or 'lesser' life form she chose, 'sentient' thought. From little teddy bears to the very walls themselves, she could give anything a 'mind', allowing her to have someone to talk to whenever she wanted. Nebi, as one might expect, was one of the targets of this intriguing ability.

As they spent more time together, the feline became more and more aware. Mentally, physically, emotionally. The latent power of the girl's fullbring eventually granted the originally normal little white cat the ability to understand and comprehend on a human level. In a sense, he eventually became well capable of 'talking' to Rika. This turned out swimmingly; As their bond grew, so did Nebi's newfound prowess, allowing him to grasp human concepts and ideals as if he were human himself. With a true, living, breathing friend by her side, Rika was never lonely again, and cherished and loved the cat with all her heart. Nebi, in time, came to feel the same way.

As with most Soul Seers, the more her powers progressed, the more unwanted attention Rika began to warrant. As a young girl, she lacked that avid 'sixth sense' that was necessary to realize it, Nebi was a bit more aware of the world around her than he let on. He didn't know what, or why, but he began to realize that as time passed, this feeling grew stronger and stronger. It accumulated one night when, right before bedtime, Rika and her parents were attacked by what Nebi could only assume were ghosts. The girl could quite plainly see them in broad daylight; Nebi, however, could only make out illusions and distortions in the air. They had been circling around in the air outside of her home, and soon afterward went on the offensive, breaking in and attacking.

Rika's mettle was tested that night. Under siege from the ghosts, she managed to escape her home with Nebi, despite leaving her parents behind; Tears were shed in the wind as she was chased down the creatures through the night. Eventually, she got tired of running. And to her better judgement, she stopped in the midst of a forest to rest. The creatures were still coming, but she didn't have much more strength left. In a last ditch effort to protect all that really mattered to her, she hid Nebi in the hollow of a tree and warned him not to follow, before running off into the dark of the night, the hollows chasing her, and not the cat. Against her wishes, Nebi hopped right out after her, and followed.

Eventually, they had no choice but to confront the ghosts. In a display of great courage and bravado, Nebi did everything in his power to protect his owner, but it was for naught; The ghosts were both invisible to him, and stronger. In a matter of moments, Rika was forced to watch her best friend die by the hands of the hollows. It wasn't long before they advanced on her as well, however; And soon after killed her as well. Separated from their souls, the two were helpless as the hollows advanced on them, consuming first the little girl, and then moving on to the cat. He would have been next, had it not been for a helping hand.

A man dressed in all black, carrying a glistening blade, descended upon the scene, and quickly dispatched the ghostly menaces in a great battle. He was, unfortunately, unable to save the girl, but by coincidence, he did save the cat... Who now expected answers out of the newcomer. Literally. The black robed man, after getting over the initial shock of being spoken to by a cat, eventually introduced himself as a shinigami, as well as his cause; He explained what had just happened, and that the cat, sadly enough, was now a mere ghost. He then explained the konsou ritual, which would have sent the cat to soul society.

Nebi denied the shinigami of that privalege, though. So overcome by all this new information and distraught by the girl's death, he evaded the soul reaper, and ran away, knowing full well the consequences of wandering as a spirit. The shinigami gave chase, but eventually relented; The cat was too fast... And the shinigami, exhausted from the battle, couldn't give chase for long. And so, that was how things went. Nebi, alone, wandered the lands for a deal of time. Despite Rika's death, he maintained his heightened senses and awareness, and it served him well enough as a ghost. However, much as the shinigami warned, madness started to set in, and betraying thoughts began to take hold of the cat's mind. He was smart enough to realize what was happening to him, and in his hour of need, surprisingly enough, that same helping hand knew, as well.

Nebi was eventually greeted by the same shinigami from before, but under much different circumstances. Weakened, and waning in spirit, the cat no longer had such a choice as to run away; The man before him was his only way out of the madness that was taking hold was the man before him. And thus, the cat pleaded with what little mental strength it had left for the black robed man to save it from it's impending fate... and, just like that, he did. The konsou process was painless, and as quick as it had started, Nebi found himself transported to an entirely new world. Unfortunately, the shock of nearly losing his mind to his inner hollow caused him to lose his memories of his life on earth.

From there, his life was relatively 'normal'. As normal as a talking cat's lifestyle could be, anyway. Dropped off in the 9th district of rukongai, the cat spent the remainder of it's days playing around, learning (and re-learning) new things, until the day came that Nebi, as if returned from the dead, began to hunger again. Anyone could tell you the story from there. He would eventually be approached by none other than the very same shinigami that preformed his konsou ritual, and after being formally invited (despite his diversities), Nebi would gain entrance to the shinigami academy.

This was a... 'different', and challenging time for Nebi. While he was welcomed into the academy with open arms, he was, after all, a cat. Not humanoid in any way, the young feline had to learn to do things... as well as put up with 'circumstances', that a cat simply wasn't fit to be a part of. Writing with pencils? Learning zanjutsu stances? Though he was able to understand the logic behind these things, his little cat body couldn't be expected to preform in the way most human's did. There was a time when, during his 2nd year in the academy, Nebi began to reconsider his training as a shinigami. And then, as if by fate's hand, he met with a 12th division official.

A cat, learning to become a shinigami. Unheard of as it was, the 12th division was most intrigued by his endeavors, and in the interest of fairness, agreed to prepare a personalized faux body, or gigai, for the young feline. It was quite the dream come true for Nebi, as it meant that he'd be able to meet his peers in study and practice as he always wanted to. It took a week's time for the body to be created, but when it was ready, Nebi was taken to retrieve it from the 12th division. There, he found himself astounded by the sheer size of their headquarters. Along with the pride given to him by being granted a human body, just seeing how advanced their base was, Nebi was smitten with the 12th division, and aspired to one day become a part of such an organization. Think, just what a cat could contribute to society!

With a body, practice and study within the academy became extremely simplified. Aside from how useful it was in practice, Nebi became admired for his adversity, and, as one might think, was often the subject of his peers outside of class, where they'd all play around with cat-form Nebi. He had no problem making friends; Who wouldn't want to be friends with such an adorable little kitty, after all? He spent the remainder of his time in the academy enjoying as much social interaction as he could with his peers, who affectionately nicknamed him "Prima", referring to his being the first actual cat to attempt becoming a shinigami. Four years passed relatively quickly for young Nebi, and he soon found himself happily graduating from the academy to take a role in the 12th division, as he always wanted.

Combat

Strengths

Nebi's a cat! Everyone loves cats. Except cat haters, anyway. Thus, he gets along well with everyone! Except cat haters.

Weaknesses

Nebi's... well, a cat! When not in his gigai, he's not really suited for much of anything, other than taking strolls around soul society and being adorable.
