Appearance
Naota is a well built man, standing at a height of about 6 foot 1 inch high. He has a well built athletic body. Not too bulky or muscular bust sturdy and strong, seemingly built for speed. At the top of Naota's back he bares an ugly scar from his past. His hair his somewhat long, falling just about an inch above shoulder length with a dark brown curly and straight texture to it. His face structure and his eyes give him a stern confident air about him.
Naota is always seen wearing black rectangular shades which hide the eerie marking of his Pre-Visored status. The whites of his eyes are dark gray and near black while his once red eyes have become a glowing golden yellow. Doctors tried to figure out what was wrong with him and concluded he had some sort of genetic defect. They recommended some form of contacts but Naota refused decidedly going with shades instead.
Naota wears chic clothing, usually a nice black dress shirt or any color at that with a nice matching tie. Usually thrown together with black pants to finish it all off. This is his normal attire and he is usually never seen in anything else besides the occasional suit jacket.
Personality
Being raised to be somebody, Naota strove to be the best in school oftentimes locking himself away from others just to come out on top. He assuredly grew out of this habit as he grew older and entered College. He's ambitious when he sets a goal for himself yet when life's simply thrown at him he can come across as lazy and completely contrary to how most people see him.
Naota is great with people, he loves to meet new friends for the sake of building relationships. His job almost calls for it as he is always meeting with businessmen from all over the world; good people skills become a must. Naota will hardly ever show his stressful and tense side to anyone. Only those who get close to him may experience the pain and struggle he endures each day. From what he thought to be a blessing he has learned to be a curse heading the VWC.
Naota's memories are all mangled up and only one memory from the night of his assault comes to the forefront: The shrieking wail of the beast who cursed him. He can not shake that deep feeling of fear, and this feeling comes to him whenever he feels something stirring within him. A whispering voice that drives him mad. The two must be connected somehow. Due to this memory, Naota has developed a fear of the future and he does not enjoy hearing inevitable facts. very much so that it will drive him mad. Stable yet an unstable man.
History
The night of Naota's birth would most likely become the 2nd most tragic night of his life. It was a late winter night, a chill was setting in outside and spring was nowhere near in sight. At a local Hospital in the city of Leeds a woman lay sprawled on a birthing table ready to permit her son entry into the world. The woman's name was Haruhara Kisara, a Japanese orient.
Halfway across the world was the boys father; Jacob Maxwell. He was somewhere in Japan taking care of business as he was head of a global conglomerate with great influence. This company was called Vaisel World Corporations. They dealt in stocks, business matters, and had their hands in weapon manufacturing and global military contracts. His father held great power and influence as the President and CEO as well as prime shareholder and founder of the company.
So, his business had him halfway across the globe when he received the call that his wife was giving birth. So in a hurried rush he readied his private jet for take off. The proper precautions weren't taken for lifting off due to Jacob's insistence on urgency. The time was 12:3 February 29, 1984: at that time Naota was born into the world and a serious plane accident had occurred in Japan; No survivors.
Things weren't looking well at the Hospital, Kisara had gone into critical condition and had to be put on life support after giving birth to Naota due to complications of the birth. The night became a tragedy all at once. 2 days following, Kisara's condition was no better though Naota was doing just great. There was a phone call and a Nurse entered the recovering mother's room after a harsh debate with the doctor about whether or not telling the patient the news would effect her health. The nurse revealed to Kisara that Jacob Maxwell was presumed dead during the night of the birth. The crushing news set in and within in 2 days afterward, Kisara passed away in her sleep; unknown cause.
This lead Naota to lead a life of a wanderer with no identity. He was luckily well taken care of by his parents money and their will, as he was placed in a prestigious orphanage to grow up with some semblance of what his normal life would have been. By the age of 18 he was a well mannered, up-kempt young man ready to venture out into the world. Albeit a bit lazy but vigorously ambitious when he had a goal set.
Naota took to being adult taking on his mother's maiden name, Haruhara he set out into the business world to claim what was his. Obtaining his father's company which was apportioned to him in the will was an arduous task cluttered with legal proceedings and extensively tiring court hearings. It took well over 2 years to before finally Naota came out on top. Though he had to legally take on his father's English name and from henceforth he was legally Naota Maxwell.
The most tragic night of Naota's life had yet to occur. The night after his outstanding win in court over becoming Co-President of Vaisel WC something supernatural occurred. He'd recently been visions as a latent power within him was awakening. He thought that he may have just been delirious and tired from years of fighting in court but what was truly happening to him was his realizing his spiritual potential.
So that night he lay out upon a lawn chair up on his balcony of his apartment in Leeds, England. He heard an explosion from nearby on the streets. As he rose up startled something went hurtling across the sky, a black and white figure that he could not make out. Then his eyes fell upon something grievously treacherous. Walking in the air was some creature, it was human like in appearance but what donned it's face told Naota that this was something entirely different.
The creature wore a mask with the most sinister of grins. The teeth were upturned and black markings were abundant upon the bony apparatus. Naota cringed as the creature took notice of what little spirit pressure the now 20 year old was giving off. Interesting enough that the creature-A Hollow, a being unknown to Naota-began his approach to the spiritually aware man. It was not due to a strong spiritual presence but the Hollow was curious to the nature of this particular human. He was scouting out potential and as he sniffed the boy out he deemed him unworthy and decided to deal with him, concluding he'd taken care of the menace Shinigami, hearing a loud crash echo from the distance.
As he came face to face with the creature its gaze seemed to lock him in place, it was useless to resist, so his body told him. The creature reached out with a hand organized of sharp claws and Naota panic, turning to run inside his apartment. As he turned around he came face to face with the very thing which he was escaping. Confusion covered the mans face before he felt a piercing pain in his chest. He looked down to see the claw of the Hollow stabbing right into what would be his soul sleep. He watched as the creature before him faded in and out of reality and his vision grew clouded.
That claw piercing in that very distinct spot was what planted the seed of sin within Naota. Little did he know that a vile creature was let loose into his soul to grow and mature and ultimately consume him from within.
At the instant before he passed out a black robed and white cloaked man landed on the balcony with a rush of wind and in a deft stroke something had severed the arm of the creature, releasing Naota from what surely would have lead to his death. A robed leg rose up and sent the gray beast sprawling backward into the side railing of the balcony. Naota passed out in exhaustion with something bubbling inside him.
The Shinigami, a strong one at that, fought on level with handicapped Hollow. It was an intense clash of sword and claws as they traded blow for blow back and forth on the balcony. Naota had somewhat awoken to witness what should have been the demise of the Shinigami. Even with only one arm, the Hollow had forced the Shinigami back and Naota knew something was terribly wrong so he reached out weakly grabbing hold of the Hollows leg. It became enough of a distraction that the Hollow sneered at Naota before Plunging his only hand into Naota's back. It fished around curiously before it found what it sought, Naota's Inga No Kusari. With a clutch of the beasts fist he'd forcibly broken Naota's chain of fate. Trapping his soul in limbo within his mortal body.
This distraction allowed the Shinigami to quickly cleave in two the Hollow's mask who gave a shrieking wail that no one could ever forget before it released Naota in a fit of pain as it's body began to erode. The Shinigami had attained victory but possibly at the cost of a human life. He did the best to treat Naota's injuries before personal body guards burst into the room and quickly to the scene of the partially wounded Naota. The Shinigami had one last thing to do before he left. Naota-half conscious-looked up to the Shinigami who simply waved his hand, erasing his memory and disappearing from his plane of vision in an instant.
It was during that moment that he died within his body. He felt as if he were cold and he was in some sort of warm blanket but in actuality he'd momentarily died. The process by which a Hollow would undergo happened upon Naota by force of will linking his soul to his body and becoming one with it once again. is souls chain reached its end and he violently convulsed as his body guards held him down in a frantic fight to save his life. They had no idea what was truly happening. Naota's will kept him from death and his soul lay trapped within his body as he'd gained some form of Shinigami powers.
After the incident, Naota was in a coma for a duration of about 4 months before he weakly rose out of it in a spiritually weakened state. Years passed and he was finally in the place he'd fought for so many years; Head of the conglomerate VWC. He was 25, a young and intelligent businessman and Co-head of the company. Life was going well for him.
All except for underlying memories surfacing. He was haunted by voices in his head. Oftentimes he'd remember a time of fear so drowning in his life that he could hear a wailing shriek, one so terrifying that he could feel its presence deep within him. Naota dealt with this in secret and leads his life to this day with heavy and stressful burdens.
Combat
Strengths
Being well brought up and taken care of, Naota has come to be a smart and intelligent man. He was a genius in sports and did quite well. Was often invited to play professionally but he declined for his studies. Despite being athletically strong he is lithe, intelligent and extremely limber.
He has a tactical mind like that of which he applied to sports. Battle becomes something similar in the end. So to sum it up he is tactical, athletic and limber, making him a nuisance to hit and a diabolical opponent.
Weaknesses
Naota's weakness would surely lie in the fact that due to the partial destruction of his soul sleep his spiritual presence fades, oftentimes to the extent where spiritual beings become blurs to his vision. Another abnormality of his condition would be the cut he sustained to his potential reiatsu. He debatably has one of the smallest reserves of spiritual pressure at his use. Thus making him hard-pressed to maintain a fight against an advanced being for prolonged periods of time without internal help.
Something like Shikai being released in his human form can exhaust and destroy his body to the near point of death unless used with extreme caution and care.
And in the end, he is still human and possesses a human body making him frail and weak. Completely susceptible to critical/fatal strikes. And as a human and a businessman, Naota has no training in the Shinigami arts and finds it difficult to combat people effectively.
