Spirit Description
Mokushi Renzu appears as a dark haired western man in his mid 30s. He's garbed in a fedora and dark gray trench coat. A small magnifying glass is bound to his hat by a dark blue band of rubber. He occasionally appears smoking a cigarette. He's quite like Saito, though a bit more vocal and insulting. The inner world he occupies is an empty street corner in perpetual night. While there are buildings, none of them have entrances or windows.
Shikai
Release Command: Search! Mokushi Renzu!
When released Mokushi Renzu becomes what appears to be a metallic bo staff with a large magnifying glass at the top. This magnifying glass is about the size of a basketball hoop and bears slight edging on the outside of its housing for use as a weapon. In actuality this weapon is a sword stick, the blade resting in the top half. When drawn the bottom part of the staff is usually discarded as it serves no true purpose beyond keeping the real blade concealed.
Shikai Abilities
Shouten Renzu
The large convex lens at the end of the sword is capable of focusing and amplifying energies that pass through it. This effect depends entirely on his kidō rank, as the energy will be amplified by a factor equal to his ranks to it. The convex lens will also depend on his kidō ranks for durability, attempting to amplify any energy one rank above his kidō will cause cracks in the lens which lower its abilities. Attempting to boost anything two ranks above his kidō will completely shatter the lens. Shouten renzu only activates when Saito wills it to do so, causing the lens to shine a bit. Shouten renzu only works on energy abilities and ranged kidō that can pass through the lens. He can not boost a kidō that comes from 6 different directions or an ability that travels through the ground.
En'u Me
By channeling reiatsu through the convex lens of mokushi renzu, saito is able to create a bright white flash. Anyone unfortunate enough to look into this flash will suffer from distorted vision not unlike looking at something to close to a magnifying glass. The severity of the distortion depends entirely on the distance the target is from Saito. The closer they are, the more severe the distortion becomes. The distortion of sight lasts only a few minutes and has no effect if the target is 20 or more feet away from Saito. The distortion starts out as everything appearing to be wider and larger than it actually is. As the opponent grows closer their sight may became reversed, seeing everything as though it were farther away.
Nenshou Mushi
Saito channels his reiatsu through the lens, creating a yellowish orange beam of energy. This beam is as wide as the lens is. Nenshou mushi can be fired either as a burst of reiatsu, or as a sustained stream of it. Nenshou mushi is not amplified by kidō when fired.
Strengths
En'u me is able to effect several targets at once, making melee combat more survivable for Saito.
Shouten Renzu makes Saito a powerful addition to any ranged team as its effects are not limited to his own reiatsu.
Weaknesses
The lens, arguably the most important part of his shikai, is not unbreakable. Once it's been shattered it can not be restored without a full hour of concentration.
Without the lens, the shikai is not able to perform any of its special abilities.
while perhaps difficult to pull off, shouten renzu CAN be used against Saito. If one were to fire an attack through the lens after he'd activated shouten renzu but before he'd used it himself that attack would be boosted.
Shouten renzu is pretty straight forward. Being able to boost only kidō that pass directly through the lens makes it rather easy to predict and avoid what's about to come your way. As such it's best used when Saito has partners who can distract the foe.
Overall Mokushi renzu is not suited for melee combat.
