Appearance

Mitsuru

Mitsuru is a girl ever on the verge of puberty; despite being rather healthy and lean looking her body is a generally smaller frame than most girls her age giving her an appearance of being younger than she actually is. Her snow white skin is starkly contrasted by dark red hair which she keeps short with silver clips with crescent moon designs in her hair to keep the majority of it out of her face when she’s at odd angles. The bangs that do actually hang in her face have been dyed green and purple respectively, and seem to give a certain glow to her emerald eyes. Her skin is generally unmarred looking all like the twelve year old she appears to be, though there is a tattoo on each of her palms of a crescent moon that face each other when she puts her palms out, one green and the other purple.

Usually seen in her Shinigami robes, Mitsuru has been known to pin up the sleeves to a short length as well as tie the legs to about knee length to give ample view of her lower legs and lower arms. In a casual or human setting Mitsuru’s clothing tends to lend toward an odd blend of younger children’s clothing and teenagers clothing, as though trying to put a balance to her age. She’s usually seen with a pair of shortalls on in varying colors but mostly always in denim and mostly always with some sort of design on the bib, they are usually a bit loose on her enough to show the severity of her underdevelopment, while maintaining enough form for her to do tricks without showing off her unmentionables. Her tops tend to be a little more sophisticated, she tries to wear halter tops that are supposed to enhance her cleavage and make her look more appealing, though they do their job to an extent they just seem to drive home the point that she’s somewhat behind the curve in puberty. These tops can range in a wide variety of colors and styles, though they tend toward a minimalist style to offset her often silly choice in shortalls.

Never seen with shoes on, Mitsuru prefers to accessorize her ankles with a pair of silver bangles with bells in them, as well, she generally wraps green and purple ribbons around her ankles and lower legs to give herself a little more presence. Mitsuru usually wraps ribbons around her wrists and lower arms too for the same reason. As well she is never seen without her silver bracelet with a inlay of a green crescent moon set against purple inlayed stars.

Personality

Mitsuru is somewhat two faced by conscious choice, or at the very least she tries hard displays a public face and a hidden face usually failing to be very convincing at either. What comes about is a mixture of the two that she can’t really control as much as she’d like too, though it tends to work for her more often than not. She prefers to act as childish as possible, attempting to trick others or make light of situations that would otherwise be serious. She uses her child like appearance to try and push this childish behavior. Mitsuru would be more successful with this way of acting had she the focus and acting skills to maintain an air of innocence and curiosity.

An incessant need to be the center of attention often leads her to bringing about what she considers her other face. Under her poorly constructed façade Mitsuru is an unstoppable ball of energy, with her focus on being first and foremost the center of attention. Though she prefers positive attention her need for it often leads her to gaining negative attention through pranks and deceit. Though she is quite clever and capable of deeper thought she often makes drastic oversights due to her anticipation of the product of her work.

In complete truth Mitsuru doesn’t necessarily need either face to get by, she can in fact display as much maturity and intelligence as a full grown adult. The reason that Mitsuru hides behind her shoddily made faces however is mostly due to her memory of her past life. Or rather what she assumes to be the memory, in that she doesn’t exactly remember any details except for the feeling of being safe and content for one instance under the attention of another and cold and abandoned in the next. As such Mitsuru tends to obsess over the feeling that she remembers, trying her best to get someone to replicate the feeling of being safe and content and trying to ward off the feeling of being alone.

History

Goodbye child I’ll never know. Goodbye little one I’ll never hold. Goodbye to a path I’ll never walk. Goodbye to sunshine.

It’s said that most of the souls of Rukongai eventually come to forget the lives they left behind and thus history in the before life is unimportant. Those that do remember things about the life they left behind usually like to regale others with stories though they’re usually a bit off in detail. Though Mitsuru had a single memory or rather a memory of a feeling she never felt the need to make note of it to others. In truth the feeling was so intimate, so special to her that she couldn’t bring herself out of her greed and share it to others. It was nothing more than a feeling of warmth and security that had quickly receded into darkness and loneliness.

In truth, Mitsuru was the result of a complicated childbirth, the medical technology at the time was enough to have prevented the complications however during that time Japan had been staunchly denying any trade with foreigners. Thus their technological levels especially in smaller cities were not enough to prevent the child’s death. In the moments before her death Mitsuru was held in her mothers arms for a couple of moments, for a single instant she was a normal child, new to the world being introduced to it by her mother. However it was ultimately not meant to be and the infant was carried to soul society.

Her first conscious memories of Rokongai were of the city of lost children, or at least that’s what the adults had called it, none of them could actually remember where or whence they came from. While some of the adults would sometimes talked about lives they had left behind, none of the children could ever remember what it had been like. It was a small inhabited area that was overrun by the souls of children, while there were a few adults the main bulk of the work and local politics were conducted by the older children. As such a lot of the children seemed to separate into gangs of sorts, though all the gangs seemed to work together they were often also in competition with each other for the sake of fun.

Perhaps it was because of that memory that she became something of a nuisance in the already childlike community. By the time that she was old enough to walk and talk, Mitsuru was already getting in peoples hair, stealing, pulling pranks, and leading her own group of hellions that seemed to only be interested in causing chaos for the rest of the settlement. People around the district had learned early on to distrust their surroundings when Mitsuru was around, making it tougher on the girl to keep up her life of debauchery around others. She considered it more of a challenge than block, showing a knack for cleverness and adaptability Mitsuru always seemed to be at least a half step in front of others.

Beyond the pranks, Mitsuru showed herself to be particularly gifted in feats of acrobatics, her dexterity and hand eye coordination was naturally much better than most of her peers. Her dexterity much like all her other talents seemed to fall into misuse as she was prone to placing her pranks in hard to reach spots. All her natural abilities lead her to becoming bored, it was obvious that she was slightly more talented in outsmarting and outmaneuvering her peers so Mitsuru began to travel around Rokongai for a bit.

During her travels she became something of a bandit, though not in the traditional sense that she caused harm to get what she desired. Instead Mitsuru had become known for setting up traps and pranks along the paths of other residents of Soul Society. Once she had her victim trapped in some sort of silly prank she gathered any sort of food items they had to feed herself and remain on the road for more pranks. As such her short time as a bandit lead her to being called Mitsuru the Fool, a clown on the roads. Taking a liking to the name Mitsuru made appropriate modifications to her body, including bright colors in her hair, as well as having a tattoo done on each hand to represent her status as a fool or a clown.

It wasn’t until she ran into a Shinigami in her travels that completely outclassed her in her own game of pranks that she had met her match. Intrigued by the challenge of outclassing a Shinigami, Mitsuru eventually found a way to get recruited by the Shinigami and made her way to the Seireitei to move on to bigger and better things. Graduating from the academy with no special mentions of skill or duress, Mitsuru eventually found her way into the Second division which proved to be a match for her particular philosophies and battle styling.

Combat

Strengths

Clever - Due to her small stature and generally having grown up from infancy in a world where people could come about at any age Mitsuru learned early on that relying on her ability to adapt and outmaneuver people would get her further than trying to increase her physical strength. As such she tends to show a knack for generally underhanded or strange actions that while not strong on their own tend to synergize with other actions to become stronger.

Acrobatic – Moving her body and generally being dexterous is second nature to Mitsuru, her light frame lends itself to tumbling, hand plants, or any other move that requires a good sense of balance. As well she tends to be quick and nimble, thought not particularly as fast on her feet as other shinigami she has an affinity for moving and reacting fairly quickly at a short range.

Small – As stated before, Mitsuru is fairly small for her perceived age. As such she finds it easy to hide and generally go unnoticed when she wants too, her light frame lends to a soundless step. As well her small stature seems to lend itself to defense as others tend to have to adjust the way they attack when they attack at her.

Weaknesses

Strength – Mitsuru was never one to train herself in feats of strength, paired with the fact that she is technically in the body of a slightly small twelve year old girl Mitsuru’s overall strength is nothing to write home about. Though she isn’t particularly weak by normal standards, she’s strong enough to hold and swing a sword effectively, though it wouldn’t do much damage as it would in the hands of another Shinigami.

Kidō Focus – Mitsuru often suffers from a lack of focus and concentration in her daily life, and that unfortunately seemed to transfer into her demon arts. Though she has enough grasp of the technique to actually cast any kidō she has obtained they tend to be much weaker than what an average Shinigami can perform.
