Appearance
Standing at about 170 cm, Mio is an attractive young woman in her prime with curves in all the right places: after all, she used to be a gravure idol, she has to have something going for her, right? Being a half-breed Osakan "native", Mio's skin is lightly tanned (none of that pale-crap, thanks) and her dark hair is on tight waves, borderlining on frizzy in high humidity. Her face is oval, and youthful: her mouth is small and her lips moderately full. Her eyes are always half-open at most, a startling light blue in colour: and if you got all poetic, you might describe them as large and doe-like. As far as she's concerned, they're just eyes.
Being a former gravure idol, Mio's a comfortably large C-cup, and though she's not the one to flaunt them at every turn, sometimes there's just no hiding those puppies under sweaters. Mio keeps herself fit, as evident from the light six-pack on her stomach and her firm and toned arms and legs (she's especially proud of her legs, it's one of the only good things her foreign mother gave her: gams that just go on), and if it weren't for that irezumi on her left shoulder, she'd pass for an acceptable member of society. But Mio has an intricate tattoo of a butterfly koi, waves and flowers on her shoulder and on her arm, stopping a little above her elbow, barring her from a few choise establishments. Mio's hips are nice and round, and as far as she's concerned, she's not looking too shabby when viewed from behind.
Personality
Grew up too soon, too fast and ended up jaded. Story of so many girls in her line of work, when she worked in it that is. Mio was a happy child as a little kid, but repeated stabs at her mixed racial background left her feeling a bit isolated and bitter. Turning to juvenile delinquency as a high-schooler also served in isolating her from other 'normal folk' and turned her inwards, to a point where she'd rather just deal with her own problems, thank you.
She got a bit better around her 19th year of living, she now shares her problems a little, but she's still bitter. Being in groups that had enough of a reputation to make people think twice about messing with the members did bring Mio some degree of safety and confidence, allowing her to try to be open about herself, if only superficially. Sure, she can talk and seem open, but in the end it's just an act and she'll often manage to keep most people at an arm's length from her.
Mio became a survivor fairly fast, always finding some way or other to save her skin. Stubborn and resourceful, even a bit prideful, Mio has a hard time trusting people, especially those who conform to the norm. Still, she's a tenacious and hard-working young woman, not really minding to show a little skin if it was to her advantage.
That being said, taking up stripping at age 16 and gravure modeling at 17, her occupations have left Mio fairly open (by Japanese standards) about her body and sexuality, much to the disgust and embarrassement of many. It may have something to do with her habit of distancing herself from the situation at hand mentally, to a point where she has barely a minimal emotional response. Maybe she has a warped understanding of those issues, maybe the rest of Japan's just full of repressed fogies, who knows. Along with that Mio, having been in touch with the wrong side of the law for so many years, has come accustomed to many bad things. To her, some of the things you and me might find criminal or wrong are part of "just another day at the office" for her.
Jaded as she is, Mio's not without a sense of humour, even if it's more dark than usual, and full of snark and sarcasm. Kind of on the flirty side as well, Mio's not above whispering sweet nothings and posing provocatively if it gets her what she wants. Even if it's just to see the target squirm. Squirmers are always so much fun! After all, now she has some sort of power over people, might as well use it, right? Still, Mio is fiercely loyal to a choice few people, and surprisingly loving and caring if it comes to that. Anego is always willing to lend a helping hand to her husband's old crew, if they ask nice.
History
Inoue Mio was born in an Osakan military base some 20 years ago. Her mother, Nina Allen, an Irishwoman just barely 20 herself, had met and fallen in love with Inoue Jirou and married him a month after they met (the baby was already on its way at that point). Due to the hurried nature of the marriage and Jirou's stubborn streak, Mio grew up in a rather hostile environment during her early years. It wasn't until 7 years after she was born that her parents actually got into an understanding and started behaving like a married couple, but the damage had already been done and Mio entered the military base's English school with the exact wrong attitude: and wouldn't you know it, she got in trouble the first day. That caused Mio to be viewed as a tomboy, and she did pretty much hang out with the other good-for-nothings in classes (yeah, the school was that harsh, they had good-for-nothings in the first grade). Mio was smart, that much was evident but ultimately, she couldn't be arsed to put an effort. She did remain above average at all times, though, but still not even close to the top of the class. Luckily for her, she seemed to heal unusually fast, so her parents didn't know just HOW many times she got in trouble...
It wasn't like her father beat her for getting into to trouble, that would've been absurd, but one day when Mio was 10 years old, her father had had enough of his daughter's unruly behaviour and during a heated argument, he slapped her once. He apologised immedietly, and swore he didn't mean to do it, but that was the point where Mio stopped relying on her parents and started to trust only herself. When their daughter started closing off after the incident, the Inoues decided to move into the heart of Osaka, thinking that maybe all Mio needed was normalcy instead of being surrounded by military and guns and all those other hyper-masculine things.
And the shift seemed to work, for a few months... But public schools are cruel, and Mio once again got in trouble for starting a fight after she got tired of being called a half-breed by one of the girls in her class. At school, she got bullied, and at home, all she got was "why can't you be a good girl" and "why are you bringing shame to us". So when the girl gang of her school invited her in, impressed by her fighting, of course she took the offer. It wasn't like she was wanted anywhere else, right? That of course was a big misunderstanding on her part, she was wanted at home, but when you're an angry 13-year-old and your parents never say they're proud but how you make them ashamed, you kinda draw your own conclusions from that.
And so Mio started her 'career' in the school gang, getting to know what they did, threathened some people, made life difficult to others, and she enjoyed it. For once, no one tried to start crap with her, and it was all because she was in a group of other people. She still kept her schoolwork up, miraculous enough, and still managed to stay slightly above average even though she skipped class and got in trouble a lot. When graduation came, Mio's papers were average but at least she made it. However, tired of her constant troublemaking and attitude, her parents told her to leave and only return when she had cleaned up her act. So there she was, penniless, homeless, and madder than ever.
A friend of hers from the gang offered her a way to make a living. She could live with her in a small apartment, and she even had a job lined up for Mio! It was, unfortunately, in the red light district as a stripper, but once you got over your sense of decency, it paid well, even after management took a share of the tips. So Mio took the offer, ain't like she had anything better lined up. She trained, and practiced, and started to build up a reputation, and soon enough, she was doing well for a rookie. Her rather large assets for someone her age (well, she told them she was 18 years old) helped her, and after a while, she started getting requests for private shows. Despite some girls doing it, though, Mio never slept with the clients. She might be hanging near-naked and upside down off a pole, but she had morals, damnit!
About a year of working the poles and doing some waitressing, Mio was often requested by one man, over and over. He even paid the owner of the establishment to not accept private show requests from anyone else but him when it came to Mio. This man, Morioka Takeru, was the leader of Morioka-ikka, second generations leader of a small but affluental crime family and a man not to be crossed. The establishment was also under his, hm, protection and the reason he had seen Mio in the first place was because he and his first lieutenant had been collecting the regular protection money from the owner.
When Mio finally asked him why he had limited her like that, the man explained that he had been looking for talents to employ, and had singled out Mio for gravure idol work in a talent agency, half owned by him of course. The work promised better money than stripping, and Mio wouldn't have to hang on to the pole all the time if the creeps got grabby, so sure, she took the offer. She had no idea Morioka had ulterior motives...
So Mio started her career posing in bikinis and lingeries or otherwise revealing clothing, gaining some popularity and making money for the agency. She was 17 years old, closing on 18 years by the time her pictures started getting published, and she really wasn't sure what was happening. She did know that for a yakuza- or rather, ninkyo dantai-boss, Morioka was surprisingly nice and bought her nice things for pretty much no reason at all. His first lieutenant was usually with her, as a bodyguard, she had been told. The next year or so went by in a routine, one that Mio didn't mind. She just had to look pretty and she got paid for it nicely, not to mention she'd formed a sort-of friendship with a large part of the Morioka-ikka, except maybe with Morioka's second in command who didn't really care for half-breeds.
A few months after Mio's 19th birthday, Morioka revealed his ulterior motive when he proposed to Mio. Mio was shocked, she hadn't even noticed...! Though when she thought about it did explain a few things. The jealousy, the nice things he bought, the loving looks- yeah okay, so she may have had an inkling. Still, he wasn't such a bad guy. He may not earn his money the normal way, but he was caring and looked out for his own, and he wasn't in the human trading circles. Not to mention he was kinda good-looking too, so while Mio may not have loved him, she certainly had some sort of feelings for him.
So she said yes, and they were married six months after the proposal. Mio wasn't the marrying type, really, but she found that she didn't mind married life that much. Sure the amount of her photoshoots declined after the marriage (she still worked under her maiden name, Inoue Mio), Takeru was sort of possessive of her, but they didn't stop all together which kinda gave her a break from "monotone". The couple moved to Okumichi, where the Morioka-ikka had started building up a base of operation.
A little after the marriage, Mio took an irezumi-tattoo to her left shoulder, to signal her transition to the family and into the role of being a wife of a yakuza-boss. It basically meant that for her pictures she needed a lot of make-up to cover it, but other than that, it was an emblem of pride for her. She had tried contacting her parents after the marriage as well, but they had merely been horrified that she had married a crime boss. And there had been no more contacts between them, mostly due to stubbornness on both sides.
Mio settled in nicely to her new life as the wife, and things went swimmingly. In fact, one could even dare to say that for a while, Mio stopped being bitter and angry and actually felt happy and like she belonged. But crap happens, and the happy time didn't last too long. About a year after they had married, when Mio was about 4 months shy of turning 21, Takeru collapsed and was rushed to a hospital. The diagnoses revealed that he had cancer, and that it had spread through his system without announcing it's presence until now and that it was too late to do anything about it. The best they could do was alleviate his pain and wait for him to succumb to the cancer.
Mio rarely left the hospital and kept Takeru company through his final months: he deteriorated fast but he was relatively pain free. He managed to draft up a will and give instructions to his squad. His first lieutenant would remain by Mio's side, taking care of her. His second lieutenant would take over his role, since he and Mio had failed to produce an heir to the family business. A little after Mio had turned 21, her husband passed away.
Mio held on like a trooper until he had been buried, but soon after that, she broke and holed herself up in their bedroom for a long time. When Takeru's first lieutenant, Chao, finally managed to get her out of the one room she was stuck in, Mio decided that maybe Jack Daniels had the answers at the bottom of the bottle, initiating a drinking binge where she dealt with her grief one bottle at a time. But after a strange happening near a construction site, Mio's started to feel a bit off somehow...
Combat
Strengths
- Fightin' dirty: Really, how can you be in a gang and NOT learn the sacred art of suckerpunching or bringing a bat to a fist fight?
- Connected: Yeah, okay, she'd sooner ask her late husband's crew to help out in a fight than do it on her own. The family might be small, but damn are they well-trained!
- Gravure idol: She still has a fanclub, and sometimes, all she needs to do is say her maiden name and bat her eyes a few times and presto, things go her way.
Weaknesses
- No real training: Mio has no formal training. Sure she's gonna be awesome in a catfight, but basically she's not the one fighting her battles.
- A real mess: Years of unresolved anger and other issues have left Mio a bit of a wreck, but her husband's death was a trigger that caused her to unravel ever-so-slightly.
- Connected: Her criminal connections are just as much of a hindrance as it is an asset, depending on the situation they're used in.
- Temper: She still has it, though she's managed to reign it in somewhat. Still, she's likely to fly off the handle and cause a scene if she's really upset.
