Appearance

Kyoshin

Kyoshin is medium height, about 5' 9", and appears to be in his teens. He has a messy-looking mane of silver hair that spikes outwards and hangs down to around his shoulders, and his skin is jet black. His Hollow Hole is rather sizable for an Arrancar, being about eight inches wide and encompassing the area in his chest that his heart should be. His mask fragments are located above and below his ears, being the jawbones of his complete Hollow mask. He wears a sleeveless white hoodie (zipped open to display his Numeros rank), in addition to the standard white Hakama worn by Arrancar. He keeps his black Zanpakuto tucked into his belt without a scabbard so he can show the blade off.

Personality

In many respects, Kyoshin acts like a child. He's impulsive, stubborn, and despite being capable of reasoning, he still tends to act like a Hollow. He enjoys the taste of Hollows so much he often slips off into the desert to hunt down a few Menos, and resents the other Arrancar for ridiculing his tendencies. He doesn't look upon the strong, such as Ortiga and his Espada, with admiration, rather he wants to become so powerful he can overthrow them himself. He hates being weak as it means he has to submit to others, thus his goal in becoming an Arrancar is to be so strong he can stand up to anyone, and never fear for himself. He hates fear.

Though still an animal in many ways, becoming an Arrancar has created a philosophical side in Kyoshin, though reasoning without a heart has made him somewhat of a nihilist. He fails to see the value in human life, and likewise cannot find much meaning in being an Arrancar, either. This makes him cling to his drive for power even more, to escape a feeling of purposelessness. He rarely gets attached to others and doesn't see any problems in sacrificing a few souls to further his own aims or to have a little fun. Despite his issues with authority figures, he wants to find a mentor who will show him the meaning in being an Arrancar, or even the meaning in existing at all, as he can't think of one himself.

History

Kyoshin was born in Kyoto, Japan, during the Sengoku period. He was orphaned at the age of seven, as both of his parents died at the start of a conflict known as the Onin War, which lasted for nearly a decade. As a teenager he fought in the war himself, and near the end of the conflict, his own life was claimed. His soul lingered in the Living World, and as he watched the bloodshed continue, helpless and unable to protect his comrades, his own anguish quickly transformed him into a Hollow. Now more than capable of interceding, Kyoshin cut down all who were on the battlefield, former friends and enemies alike, devouring their souls as he did. Before attracting the attention of the Shinigami, he fled to Hueco Mundo, and, driven by his insatiable hunger, he quickly began to prey upon weaker Hollows he found there. He didn't understand what had just happened to him, why he had killed his friends, or what he was now, but he kept eating. He had to; it was as if the taste of Hollows hid the pain he was feeling.

As Kyoshin let his hunger dominate him, more and more of his past became hidden in the haze of his animalistic drive. Sometimes, when gazing up at the moon of Hueco Mundo, he would try to recollect who he had been, but memories only brought him pain. Even in his new form, he could sense that something was missing, that he'd lost something that he had before. He could no longer feel true emotions, only jealous and longing, and he knew this. His past life held nothing for him but suffering.

After several years hunting in Hueco Mundo, Kyoshin clashed with a pack of Hollows like himself who were not content with the taste of human souls. The fight itself did not last long, and as the Hollows' drive to devour consumed them, they were all fused together as a Gillian Menos. Their individuality lost, the Hollows had been united by their drive to feed, which had forced all memories and personalities from them. Kyoshin, however, faintly realized himself. He no longer had a past to call his own, or anything to tell himself apart from the Hollows he had fused with. All he had now was a name. Kyoshin. It felt foreign now, like a word he no longer knew the meaning of. But it was all he had. He would give it meaning, it meant... him.

As the Gillian was drawn to others of its kind, Kyoshin fought for dominance against the creature he had become. He could not be dominated by the hunger he had let consume him before, he had to harness it, he had to use it. Gaining control, he turned on the other Gillian around him, the creatures who had ceased to act on their own and were content to act as one with their kind. He kept fighting against them, building his own power and determination as he devoured countless Gillian, until he evolved again. As an Adjuchas Menos, Kyoshin's need to feed doubled, and gained new urgency, for if he failed to consume other Adjuchas, he would revert to a Gillian. As he began hunting again, he gained a following of other Menos, and together the group took down larger opponents and effectively protected each other from stronger Hollows. For centuries, Kyoshin's pack prowled the desert of Hueco Mundo, consuming strong Hollows to preserve their individuality and grow in strength themselves. Kyoshin's human past was long forgotten, yet he had gained a new identity as a Hollow.

Then, everything changed. A Vasto Lorde Menos possessing power far greater than Kyoshin or his companions attacked their group as they were roaming the desert, and in a short matter of seconds, his entire pack was decimated. Lasting longer in the battle than his comrades, but only just, Kyoshin fought to the end yet was inevitably defeated by his enemy. It was as he laid on the ground, near dead and awaiting the finishing blow that he was saved by an unlikely protector, a Shinigami wearing a Hollow mask. The Vasto Lorde was immobilized by a high-level Bakudou as the Vaizard whisked Kyoshin to safety and treated his wounds. Having relied on his own power and only his own power to save himself in the past, the Adjuchas couldn’t accept the fact that he’d been saved by another being’s mercy, and a Shinigami’s mercy at that. Yet, as he saw no other solution, Kyoshin eventually resolved to follow the Vaizard on her journeys, feeling indebted to her and hoping he might somehow repay the Shinigami and thus lose his obligation to her. For nearly a year he walked the sands as if her loyal dog, and as the two came to know each other, Kyoshin learned that the Vaizard was once a Shinigami herself, but was now being hunted by them because of her Hollow powers. She’d become a Vaizard against her own will, but this meant nothing to her pursuers, so she’d been forced to flee to Hueco Mundo to escape execution at their hands.

Kyoshin never truly understood why he’d been saved, as he never truly understood the human heart’s ability for compassion, but he grew to appreciate the Vaizard’s companionship, nonetheless. If only it were to last... Eventually, a Shinigami Captain tracked them down, a Captain so strong Kyoshin and his companion were forced to their knees by his Spiritual Pressure alone. Knowing he stood no chance against the Shinigami, Kyoshin fled into the shadows, hiding himself and leaving the Vaizard to face her doom. He would forever curse that decision. The Vaizard knelt before her former Captain, resigned to her fate, as the Shinigami raised his sword and finished Kyoshin’s savior in a single stroke. Kyoshin did nothing, said nothing, as the woman who had saved him collapsed, her crimson blood staining the white, moonlit sands. Then the Captain left, taking nothing but the woman’s Zanpakuto as he opened a Senkaimon and returning to Seireitei, leaving Kyoshin to crawl back to the friend he’d forsaken. After staring at her corpse for minutes, filling up with hatred for the Shinigami and an even stronger hatred of himself, Kyoshin let out a murderous scream of rage, knowing it was his fault. That she’d died. That he was still alive. That the Captain had walked away without a scratch after mercilessly executing his own Lieutenant. That he was weak, too weak to save anyone but himself.

Resolving to never again give into fear, to become so strong he would fear no being, Kyoshin tore off his mask then and there, screaming now in both rage and pain as he was transformed into an Arrancar. Inspecting his new body and Zanpakuto with a fascination that helped him forget his pain and vowing that he would make the Shinigami pay for what they did to his friend, he used his new powers to tear open a Garganta and make his way to Soul Society. Finding himself in the outskirts of Rukongai, he fashioned himself a hakama from some stolen cloth, and started marching right up to the gates of Seireitei, believing he could somehow take on the entire Gotei Thirteen with his new powers. That’s when he encountered his second Shinigami, and learned that he’d lost nearly all of his former strength during the transformation. Confused and scared, he was forced to flee from the fight, losing himself in the streets of Rukongai and temporarily evading his pursuers. He witnessed some of the poverty in the Spirit World, seeing Pluses that the Shinigami ‘saved’ living in rags and dying from thirst. There was a commotion nearby when a local man stole some water from an obviously poor woman, and in an effort to help her, he took out his sword and sliced the man in two. He offered the water back to the woman who had been robbed, but she screamed in horror and ran, as did many of the souls nearby.

Eventually, he returned to Hueco Mundo, where he journeyed to Las Noches and joined the Numeros, wanting to learn why his powers had been reduced. A little more than crestfallen to be ranked Twenty-Eight, the lowest in the organization, Kyoshin began to resent his superior officers and spent most of his time in the desert he’d come from, hunting Hollows in the hopes of growing stronger and regaining the power he’d lost. Then, he could take vengeance on the Shinigami, and become the greatest of La Imperio del Hueco…

Combat

Strengths

Not caring much for people's feelings or opinions of him, Kyoshin has become rather skilled at getting reactions out of people. Just from knowing them for a few minutes, Kyoshin can figure out what could make an opponent angry or lash out in a certain way, and use it. He mainly provokes to start a fight, but picking up subtle cues and traits can give him an advantage when predicting an enemy's behavior.

After spending centuries as an Adjuchas Menos, Kyoshin's Hollow instincts are still strong and play a role in his combat style. Though still adjusting to his new form, he can dodge and counter with surprising speed, displaying a level of skill that doesn't seem consistent with his poor fighting style and may catch his enemies off guard.

Weaknesses

Having only recently become an Arrancar, Kyoshin is far from accustomed to fighting in his new form. He makes mistakes and is generally uncreative when it comes to devising ways to attack in his new body, thus he tends to stick to his Hollow techniques as he unlocks them, which can make his fighting style rather predictable.

Even if Kyoshin has only a moderate advantage over an opponent, he will fight as if he can't lose. He tends to drop his defense and toy with his enemy, leaving himself open to attack and occasionally taking unnecessary hits just to show his enemy the difference in their power. On the other hand, he absolutely hates fights that he knows he can't win, or even close rivalries with evenly matched power. He wants to utterly dominate his enemies, and nothing less.
