Appearance
Kurei doesn't go out side much and has lighter skin. His thick black hair falls messily around his head and face, unkept. He has wide blue eyes, though often lowered in disinterest or hidden by his hair. On his right arm and shoulder is a winding tattoo of countless words sreaming out of pages, and on his back between his shoulders is a large tattoo of an reptilian eye surrounded by scales. All done in black ink. Kurei usually has his shaded visor on.
His body looks like a person in his twenties, but his soul is about two hundred years old.
Personality
Gloomy, anti social, negative. He tends to have confidence in his own actions at the time, then regret them later. Extremely pessimistic, he tends to have awful thoughts or point our morbid troubling facts. Kurei also hates battle and war, finding it something tragic. Kurei does not get scared from normal intimidation, but when he faces anything like someone over complimenting him, or something of the sort, he freezes up and becomes very nervous. This is because he belittles himself a lot.
Kureis family gave him little confidence, convincing him most things are not worth it. He sees a lot of things around him as forgetable, including himself. He really is just a pessimist though and though. Because of this is also a realist, thinking about situations in straightforward ways with sometimes cold logic. Warm hearted actions get the better of him, someone helping him for no reason would make him blush and shyly try to leave the room.
History
Kurei Was born in the soul society in a middle class district. His parents were not poor or wealthy, just average. His mother died young, an accident at the district involving a rampaging hollow that was dispatched just a little too late. His father re-married, unfortunetly, a horrible woman. She tormented Kurei, beat him and locked him away often. She was selfish, convince Kurei would drive her and her husband apart, so she game him as little as possible and made sure Kureis dad did the same. Kurei began to delve into human things, books and art from the human world were rare but he found what he could, reading often. Around this time Kurei also adopted a baby Death Adder, who he named Asura.
This continued for years until realizing he felt hunger more then anyone he knew. His parents noticed this too, and after he passed out from hunger at one point, he was sent to a specialist doctor who determined his spiritual power was awakening. After that he was shipped to the seretei and the shinigami academy, which he was perfectly fine with really.
In the acadamy he learned how to use kido properly, training for fourth squad at first but then switching to third when he decided his skill was more apt to non-medical kido. He learned he was not proficient in melee techniques or powerful sword combat, so instead began to focus on his kido training, and trying to contact his spirit. Around this time he bought a visor (12th division tech) that allows him to remotely acess the sereteis database and look up information on people. This is convienient since he is always forgetting names. (these are the visors renji was first seen in)
after graduating the academy top of his class, Kurei went to fourth division, but right after learning basic medical technique he was moved to third when they saw his proficiency in more destructive scenarios.
In third squad Kurei regularly goes for scouting missions, responds to emergency beacons, he likes to stay busy. Kurei got a tattoo on his right arm of several books with many words pouring out, the words were taken from some of his favorite works of fiction, by people like Lovecraft, and some words from religious texts he's read.
Around this time Kurei began to be haunted by nightmares of a massive monster, and when he looked at it, Kurei became trapped in stone. He then woke up. All he remembered was a massive beast with a golden eye and a snake like body. He has it more often then he likes, and got a tattoo of a snakes eye with scales around it on his back as if to ward it off with it's own image.
Kurei spends his income on human world books, records, and on caring for Asura, who lives with him in his 3rd squad room.
Kurei has long since ceased all contact with his family, preferring to just forget them. He is now rarely seen without his visors, apparently lacking the confidence to not hide behind them. He gets skiddish when he takes them off, but acts authoritative with them on, like how a person in uniform feels more confident.
He now tries to get along with people best he can.
In every historical war involving all of the Court Guard, Kurei has narrowly survived.
Extra: Kurei found Asura when his step mother had locked him in the cellar at one point. He had found the snake trapped inside after it fell in though the vent, unable to get out and hungry it sprung at Kurei, who stopped it with a swat and instead gave it the meat from his lunch. Since then he's kept it as a pet. Asura lives with Kurei in his barracks and is moderately friendly to strangers, though Kurei keeps and antidote for the snakes venom in his room just in case.
Combat
Strengths
Kurei uses fast sword play that allows rapid shallow cuts to be made on a person. He also trains rigorously in Kido, trying to master as many spells as possible.
Weaknesses
Kurei has poor physical strength and melee skill, he can be over powered with ease with out his zanpacuto or his kido. He has only average speed when it comes to movement. Kurei also has slight Hemophobia after watching his mother be viciously murdered and eaten alive, something that made him eager to leave the squad that tends to treating so many bloody wounds and that can hinder him sometimes.
