Appearance

Zenrai looks like he is about 23-26 years old. He is well built and slightly tall(just above average) He has a pair of dark brown eyes and a long mane of dark hair which is partly tied in a short pony tail. The rest held back from his eyes with some sort of bandana of various kinds. His mouth is almost permantly fixed in a annoyed snarl and to go with this snarl there is almost always something sticking out of his mouth, be it a straw or a small stick.

He wears the regular Shinigami gettup but he likes to let a part of the upper body stay hanging by his side and will often remove the upper body completely.

Personality

Zenrai is a dominating character. He enjoys to bully those weaker than him into obedience and use his strength as a tool to force his will upon others. He is also unpatitent and as a result hates unessicary things like social rituals or such, he is straight forward and rarely subtle.

By just these traits Zenrai is a pretty distasteful person but there is more to him than the simple bully that most observe at the first glance. Behind the cover hides a quite intelligent mind that actually posses alot more compassion for others than he lets on. Only those who have been with him long enough know the good sides of Zenrai Takanari.

There is a reason why those who get forcefully "conscripted" into his "gangs" usually end up incredibly loyal(considering the recruitment method). If you were to ask one why then the usual answer would probably be "He takes care of us". Zenrai has a strange set of moral rules, but he does have them. For example he feels very responsible for those who serve under him and he is more prone to kindness towards those that are worse off than he is, he is even capable of noble acts from time to time.

Besides his tendancy to create gangs and becoming its members "aniki". He likes, or is obsessed with challenging superiour opponents, constantly wanting to improve himself, constantly wanting to climb the ladder of strenght. Nothing but the top in all things is acceptable to Zenrai Takanari, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

History

Kouhai was born in a small insignificant village in the Owari Province. His mother was a beautiful proud woman that raised him all alone. She had through out Kouhais life claimed that she had been the concubine of Oda Nobuhide and was of noble blood. She also claimed that Kouhai was the product of that relationship with the lord. However she had nothing to back this up with other than a small fortune, which source she claimed was from Nobuhide himself.

No-one believed her though, and who could blame them? Kouhais mother drew pride from her claims and acted almost superior to the farmers of their home village. An attitude that caused them to be quite disliked. The fact that she had a larger fortune than parts of the village combined, without ever working, did not really help their social status.

Kouhai grew up with the constant reminder that he was the bastard son of the great lord of the province, this affected him and gave him a false pride which made him the target of constant mockery and bullying, from the other boys in the village. It did't take long before he started having doubts about the credibilty of his mothers claims, especially as he grew older.

The solitude and bullying made him strong, he would train constantly in all forms of physical akivity and he would often use sticks which he had cut into the shape of swords to train and play that he was a swordsman serving under the banner of the Oda familiy, sometimes that he was a great lord himself. These fantasies of glory accompanied him in his solitude and became his only freinds.

At the age of fourthteen he had gone from the victim to the bully. While the other kids would have to do chores and help with the farm, he had nothing to do but pick fights and train. It left him strong and he used this to make the other youths in the village "respect" him, he even forcefully recruited a few of them to act as his "Minions" which he forced to refer to him as "Kouhai-dono"

As he grew even older, he realized what many of the other villagers had know for a while know. His mother was suffering from something that affected her mind and soul. Her claims was rapidly becoming even more grand and frequent and she had started seeing things. She had even gone from her usual claim that he reminded her of his "father" to the point where she would sometimes mistake him for the actual man himself. The experience put a damper to his little reign and he started caring for his sick mother which delusions seemed to never stop increasing.

When Kouhai was 19 years old, the news of Nobuhides sudden death reached the village. Fearing what it would do to his mother, he tried to hide the truth from her. However it was a futile act and she soon found out, when she herself overheard a conversation as she was accompanying her son to the market.

The news sent her into shock and eventually a dark depression that finally claimed her life. Right before she died she had a final moment of clarity and she called her son to her side.

"Your father was a great man, I am so sorry that I could not give you the life you deserved. In your veins runs noble blood my dear, dear, son, make the spirit of your father proud Kohai, become something great."

With that she faded from this world and left Kouhai alone. He spent days simply walking the fields around his village, weigthing the words of his mother and trying to figure out what to do next. The words that his mother had given him on her death bed had given him new confidence in her mothers mad claims and in what might have been way of staving of his own sadness for the loss of his mother, he started believing in his destiny for greatness.

The answer he was looking for came when news of the feud between Nobunaga and Nobuyuki reached his ears. Certain that this was a sign, Kouhai extracted the remains of his mothers fortune and traveled to a nearby town where he spent most of it on a "No-dachi" and a simple set of armor. The seller offered to sell him a katana instead, claiming that the long blade was hard to wield, refusing to listen he went ahead with the purchase and headed to the last known location of Lord Nobuyukis camp.

He was not entirely certain about his own heritage, but he still felt a strong bond to the Oda clan and felt like it was his destiny to fight and claim some sort of position in their family, at-least that was his plan.

He was recruited into Nobuyukis army as simple Ashigaru levy. In the short campaign that compromised the fued between the two Oda Brothers, Kouhai somehow managed to make quite the name for himself amongst the common soldiers. His name even reached some of the samurai. He was amongst those that had heard of him as "That crazy guy with the long sword". The fame was a result of his superiour weapon and armor which stood out amongst the Ashigaru ranks aswell as his courage and recklessness in battle. Constant strokes of luck that saved him from certain death strengthen his belief that he was destined for something grand, it even went to the point where he started thinking of himself as "untouchable". He now believed firmly that he was destined for greatness, thus, he could not die before he had become just that. Ironicly enough, this became the reason for his ultimate demise.

At the last battle that took place between Nobunaga and Nobuyuki. At a pivotal point of this conflict, Kouhai spotted the man which he thought must be no other than Nobunaga himself. His unit was dangerously close but it had just received the order of retreat. Desperate for fame, he broke rank, roaring for the other soldiers to follow him.

Nobody came.

He found himself alone in the field without any support, but instead of laying down his weapon and hoping for mercy, his belief that he could not die before becoming someone great simply grew stronger to stave of the panic most men would get in a situation like this.

The battle was already lost for the Nobuyuki faction, his army in full retreat. Beliving that to charge forward was the only option, he rushed to claim Nobunagas head. He never came close though, an arrow fired from one of the riders close to his target planted itself squarly in his chest, soon after one found his leg and he buckled and fell to his knees. One of the officer in what turned out to be a simple cavarly unit, mistook the mans action as an act of extreme bravery, immensely impressed the man rode to meet him.

The officer, a man with a friendly heart, was contemplating if to give the man a chance for life or give him an honorable end as he approached the man. Though this would prove to be a mistake, for the moment he was about to dismount he felt the cold bite of a blade stabbing into his abdomen, Kouhai had made a fatal mistake and attacked the officer in a moment of blind fury. Enraged by the display the riders in the cavarly unit stamped the life out of him, leaving nothing but bloody pulp left of the man. But even as he was trampled to death he constantly uttered the same words over and over "I shant die, I shant die, I shant die"

When his soul finally fled his body he continued his rampage, desperately hacking at the living soldiers and konpaku alike. It was to no avail but he was far too lost to realize he was slicing air. When a Shinigami eventually appeared he quickly became the new target for his rage, however he was promptly disarmed and soon his soul was sent screaming over to the other side.

________________________________

In his new life he became known as Zenrai Takanari", his appointed "family" had given him a different name, something which he had quickly cast off. He left the family behind after a few years and became a part of the districts underground. Zenrai became infamous amongst the many gangs in the district for his brutal style of fighting and his insane acts of fearlessness which eventually netted him a gang of his own.

Using this gang he waged war on the other gangs, eventually becoming the strongest sub-faction in the district and his name even reached the ears of the larger gangs in other districts. Zenrais lust for battle seemed to be unending and soon he was fighting with other foreign gangs, crossing over districts in order to wage his small but bloody wars.

Eventually he became a nuiscanse to the Seireitei as a nobleman had filed a complaint regarding his gang for vandalism against his property. Zenrai was apprehended and sentanced to imprisonment. However his talent in combat had been noticed in the fights during the raid in which his gang and himself had been arrested.

Due to this he was offered the opportunity to become Shinigami as an alternative to jail. Zenrai despised the idea of his freedom being stripped and forced into the ranks of enforcers who he had grown to despise over the years in the poor lower districts. However his fear of being locked in a cell outclassed his hate for the Shinigami and he eventually accepted.

He was enrolled at the Academy where it was noted that the man had significant leadership abilities, however they seemed to waste as the man seemed to be more prone to using intimiation to creating small gangs of lackeys than for anything else. His skill with weaponry was an obvious one but he was not graded well as his "finese" was severely lacking. It was no surprise to anyone that he was sent to the eleventh division upon graduation.
