Appearance
At 6'1", Kiyoshi is an average-sized man, with tanned skin. His hair is raven black, bone straight, and has a notable sheen to it. The iris of his eyes are as dark as his hair, but lack definition or clarity. His face is relatively clean, save for a bit of stubble on his chin. He has an innate look of either drowsiness or boredom on his face.
His shinigami uniform is worn informally. The kosode isn't tucked in, and so it reaches as far as the middle of his calf in length. The sleeves are tied down with leather to increase mobility, and the sash of his uniform is tied beneath the kosode. Beneath it, he wears a padded leather shirt, for protection. His hands are gloved with a similar leather. He wears a black turban on his head, which hides his hair, and a black scarf around his neck, which hides his mouth when he has it up. With both in place, the only thing visible is his eyes.
Personality
Kiyoshi is viewed as a thinker. He is usually not the first to act amongst a group, preferring to watch others and learn from their mistakes before doing anything on his own, but in situations where this cannot be helped, he proceeds with more caution than not. He tends to look at the downside of every scenario before he does the good side; Weighing the consequences of his decisions before he makes them. Just as well, he is perfectly capable of making split-second decisions where necessary.
Unlike most thinkers, however, he is hardly introverted. Kiyoshi will speak his mind whenever he feels the need, and normally cares not who he insults by speaking it. He is sociable, but neither kind nor compassionate. He is cynical, pessimistic, selfish, and only helps others when there is some form of gain on his part. He doesn't have many friends, but not just because of his sour attitude. He is known for his belief in darwinism. Only the strong and the smart survive, and thus he is known to 'devour' his friends and enemies with that logic, preying off of the weak and avoiding the strong.
Kiyoshi hides a dark ambition within him, which has never been sated, and perhaps never will. He claws his way to power, no matter the means, usually taking the most efficient route towards a goal... even if it could be seen as chaotic, or depraved, by others. Despite these 'faults', Kiyoshi isn't 'evil'. He fancies himself a man who knows what must be done for the sake of progress and the greater good, and the few people who associate with him respect him for that.
History
Kiyoshi was born in Akita, Japan, where he spent the majority of his childhood being brought up with a 'proper' education, considering the time. Marked as a young genius, he excelled in his studies and practical application of philosophy. As a young man, he was eventually offered a low-ranking position in an office of government, but upon seeing the corruption of political control which lurked behind it, he resigned soon afterwards with the excuse of sickness.
On his way back to his home town, Kiyoshi was attacked and taken hostage, along with several others who had been traveling with him, by bandits. Their aim was to simply mug his group, and leave them for dead... Kiyoshi, however, used his cunning to convince the bandits that he was child of a powerful government official. It was a lie that not only spared his life, but gained him the favor of the bandits, who dared not harm him. After a week's time, they released Kiyoshi on good terms. The others, however, were killed.
Kiyoshi spent a great deal of time afterwards working as an adviser afterwards, under the capitol's then-head of the district office. Still, the corruption of power among those who had it lingered, but Kiyoshi had burned in his mind an ambition, a mission to free not only the capitol, but the entire prefecture of this corruption. For the sake of that ambition, he quietly bided his time, remaining as close to the head of the district office as possible. However, distrust would eventually set in between the two, which would eventually lead to Kiyoshi's own execution by the government, deemed 'too dangerous of a snake to be left alone'.
Death came swiftly to Kiyoshi, regardless of his attempts to run and hide from the government. He was put to death by beheading, his body burned and his ashes buried. It was an unlawful display of absolute power over those ruled by the government, and yet, with the passing months, his short reign as advisor was all but forgotten. In death, Kiyoshi watched from the 'other side' as the few who supported his ideals would eventually move on, as if his existence meant nothing. A crime unpunished.
Time passed, and Kiyoshi remained in an astral state for a while. His presence as a spirit, to his misfortune, drew the unwanted attention of demons. Hollows eventually began to hunt for him, the smell of his soul alluring. However, what a life-or-death manner of threat was to most spirits, Kiyoshi saw merely as a bother. Hollows were mindless spirits, like animals; A man with such a mind as Kiyoshi's saw no immediate threat in them. So long as he knew where to run... where to hide, he was safe. That was how he lived for some time. However, as with most spirits, he was eventually approached by a god of the dead, a shinigami, who would lead him into the 'true' afterlife, Soul Society.
The transition was short. The time that Kiyoshi spent in the rukongai district was minimal, at best. He was placed in the 3rd district of eastern rukongai, during which time he worked as a janitor in a small restaurant. There, he learned many things about Soul Society, and it's workings. It intrigued him; Even in the afterlife, there was a need for thinkers, advisers, and people with authority. Kiyoshi eventually sought out one such shinigami of Soul Society, an unranked officer who'd been patrolling the 3rd district for some time. With a clever, mannerful tongue, he eventually managed to get a recommendation out of the man, which allowed him to join the shinigami academy.
Combat
Strengths
Kiyoshi is a stretegist. He does his best work advising others and making sure that his strategies succeed. As such, he's a well-versed intellectual, and learned in several subjects of war. He is known for his 'hit and run' strategies, and is considered an ambush specialist by his peers.
Weaknesses
Kiyoshi isn't much of a fighter, usually. Against opponents who might seem a valid threat to him, he runs rather than sticking around to fight.
