Appearance
Kisho died when he was in his twenties—one of the few things hard for him to remember was detail of his life before death—so his appearance has remained largely similar to that of a young twenty year old. Standing just above average height at five foot ten inches he weighs 150 give or take a few pounds. Despite some of the things he pumps into his system, aside from that he tries to keep it in relatively good shape. Kisho has lean muscle tone from working out to keep his body in shape. He generally looks fairly energetic despite the occasional appearance of dark rings under his eyes due to the strange hours he keeps. But above those dark rims he has blue-grey eyes generally framed behind a pair of simple glasses. He previously preferred to wear his black hair longer but after singing it one too many times he has opted to keep it cut shorter.
Clothing has some meaning in that you can often learn a lot about someone based on how they dress and present themselves. On a personal level Kisho couldn’t care less but from a functional perspective he can appreciate that the standard black Shinigami robes are good at hiding the various stains that are bound to show up after more than a few minutes in any lab at the 12th Division. Likewise because of the impression it conveys to other people he tends to try and clean any grease or obvious residue off before meeting with someone.
Personality
Kisho’s mind is a buzzing hive of information and confusion at almost all times. Gifted with near perfect recall he finds it far too easy to go off on a barely related tangent due to a random surfacing memory. For as long as he could remember Kisho has had a borderline compulsive need to acquire knowledge and information. Eager and happy to learn something new he is always the first to volunteer to help at virtually any given task just for an excuse to learn something new. Its Kisho’s constant need to learn that has gotten him into trouble in the past, since at times he will neglect certain things—laws, direct orders, etc.—for the sake of his research.
In an effort to better understand his own mind and reality through his perceptions he will often experiment not just on others but also on himself. It isn’t unheard of for him to intoxicate himself in various ways to see how his observations are shifted by the experience. Compared to the experiments that lead to his earthly death he views drug use as relatively safe.
Kisho is fairly sociable, always happy to meet a new person and learn something else about them. He loves being a part of the 12th Division because with so many researchers and scientists in one place it is a constant source of information and learning. Life is never boring for him because of this and it’s one thing that he has found to be truly thankful for. For people less focused on intellectual pursuits Kisho has been rightfully accused of looking down on people or even disregarding them as insignificant. In truth his mindset borders on a sociopathic disregard towards the unintelligent—viewing them at best as curious specimens to be studied.
History
There are only a few snippets of Kisho’s life before his death that he remembers and even then it tends to be vague memories—flashes of recognition more akin to remembering something seen in a play than a recalling a living experience. But of these the most intense lingering memory is the day of his death. He had just finished reading his copy of Thus Spoke Zarathustra—not an easy book to find at the time but Kisho managed to find some traders who had a copy of the work which would one day be a philosophical classic. It entered into his mind that perhaps his perspectives on reality were restraining him. Somehow in his brilliant mind he came up with the colossally stupid idea that a near death experience would bring him some much needed perspective. As it turned out at the time his skill with a blade was not what it would one day be—and he cut into his wrists too deeply. He was unable to bind them quickly enough to stop himself from bleeding to death. In a way his insane idea actually worked, as he was opened up to the spiritual afterlife for the first time, a period as a Plus which changed his idea of the afterlife and purpose. Then finally when a Shinigami found him, Kisho got his first view of the Rukongai.
With the special brand of naïveté that seems to only be found in the incredibly intelligent, Kisho looked at the whole situation as a learning experience. It was likely only luck that kept him from being killed his first day in the Rukongai. As it turned out though, Kisho’s expansive knowledge base meant that he was an asset to some of the gangs. For years he acted as the brains behind his gang’s brawn. Never a fighter himself, except in rare situations where he felt that he needed to experience battle to better understand it, Kisho told them where to go and what to do. They were a well-fed group and for a few decades they only grew in numbers. When bigger rival gangs challenged them it turned out that knowing that with enough flour and grain dust in the air you could create a fairly significant explosion was a useful bit of knowledge.
As it turned out, rival gangs blowing up various buildings tends to draw attention from authority. Shinigami were sent to investigate the destruction of the gang’s hideout, and it didn’t take them long to realize that Kisho wasn’t just some random street punk. For a couple more decades Kisho was able to avoid being found out—but it took a lot of moving and eventually they caught up to him. When they found out they were dealing not with some old resentful terrorist, but a smart kid who had the faint traces of spiritual power about him, the situation changed. Kisho didn't really have much choice in what happened next, he was detained until examined and it was found out that he had spiritual potential. At that point he could either be released after his detention or go into the Academy knowing that he would be watched like a hawk and removed if he became the center of any trouble. The chance to learn something new in an Academy setting was a far cry from a punishment and it didn’t take Kisho much time to decide. He passed the Academy with moderate marks in sword training and footwork, excellent marks in Kidō potential and fairly weak marks in physical combat—hand to hand was simply not his forte. Given his marks and the fact when his graduation was approaching, he asked if he could be allowed to stay on in the Academy for a while longer. Further questions got him to admit he hadn’t quite had time to read all the books in the Academy’s Library yet. He was placed in the 12th Division with an invitation to come back and read anytime he liked. As it turned out though the information available to him in the 12th Division dwarfed any other collection Kisho had ever seen—it was heavenly.
Combat
Strengths
He is fast, in thought and movement Kisho moves a mile a minute. It’s a pretty common occurrence to see him running from one side of the twelfth to the other in search of files or folders. He reacts fast in battle, evaluating the situation and quick give tactical advise on the fight. His perfect recall allows him to easily bring up the strengths and weaknesses of those around him—allowing him to plan ahead for multiple contingencies. His focus and concentration make him skilled at Reiatsu manipulation and Kidō use.
Weaknesses
Physically Kisho is quite weak, weaker than an average human which sets him far below many of the Shinigami and Hollows out there. He also tends to be dismissive of people who are unintelligent and will often disregard them which hurts him on two accounts. In makes him hard to work with, never truly respecting people belonging to Divisions like the 11th. It also means that sometimes he underestimates opponents who tend to fight with brute force—not a good habit for someone as weak as Kisho.
