Appearance
To begin with Kirei stands at an average 5'8" height and weighs approximately 168 lbs. However that's where he ceases to be average. His hair is a bright blond, nearing a yellowish gold, however it is styled on his head in various spikes, resembling some sort of quill creature, a hedgehog or porcupine perhaps. His eyes are an odd shade of yellow, more like a muddied down color nearing hazel but still having hints of yellow and gold. His face is one of those...odd beauties. The kind of face where you look at it once and you see something pretty, maybe even beautiful, and then you look at it again and go, what was I thinking. On his ears he has two earrings that are spiked fruit shaped emblems dangling off of a short chain. If you were to ask him, he'd state that they were Durian fruit. His body is muscular but more of a humble, occasionally works out, kind of muscle. As for his outfit he wears the standard shinigami garb because he was yelled at multiple times for too unique changes. Finally he appears to look around his early twenties, but truthfully he died at the ripe age of 18.
Personality
"Smile, it looks good on you..." Words said to Kirei when he was alive and younger. Words he lives by today. Kirei can always be seen with the biggest and brightest smile in all of the Soul Society. His bright shinning teeth and flawless grin tend to be disarming to some, and even unsettling to others. Regardless of the situation he can be seen with a smile of any shape or sizes, and it is rare to every see him serious or saddened. As such, his demeanor tends to always fit with his smile, a happy, optimistic, and youthful shinigami. Kirei also tries to be that one people please-er that can make anyone happy, so he tries to do everything you ask and almost always says yes, one of his many personality weaknesses. Another one of those said weaknesses is his ability to make light of every situation. One might think this to be a good thing, but he has gotten in trouble many times for cracking inappropriate jokes and has been slapped a few times for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Finally, Kirei tends to bring this happiness everywhere he goes, making people laugh, brightening up peoples moods, and even making combat and training a joyous occasion.
History
Kirei didn't grow up alone, he didn't have a troubled childhood, and he wasn't some freak mutant baby from some unknown planet. No, Kirei was a normal human being in his past. He was Japanese and grew up in a time of Economical, and Industrial Growth. Kirei's family were farmers, but happy ones. They understood that the world was changing, politics, machinery, countries, etc. and they understood that as farmers of agriculture their product will never be tossed aside, yes they may be out tech-ed, but their produce and livestock will always be needed. With this understanding the Gihen's lived with an optimistic outlook on life and a sense of financial security. Thus as Kirei was brought into the world and raised he never felt underprivileged or poor, that is until his family moved to Hiroshima City. That's when it sunk in, going to school he always felt poor, or cheap. He stopped smiling and always felt sad. Then he met this girl, this wonderful girl. If you were to ask Kirei now, he would remember her face, her words, but never her name, for it was quite some time ago. Anyways this girl started to talk with him, hang out with him, she was the one that told him to smile, she was the one to bring joy back to his life.
Fast-forward to Kirei's 18th birthday. His life had been great he was moving on to University soon. He had a wonderful girlfriend, the same girl from his youth, and he hadn't much care in the world. Well minus the on going World War that consumed all of Japan, Europe, and now the U.S.A. For Japan had made the soon to be costly mistake of bombing Pearl Harbor. Fast-forward a few months to August of 1945. Kirei was walking the streets of Hiroshima with his girlfriend, they stop next to a wonderful cherry blossom on the side of the road. This being the same tree the two first met. Kirei gets on one knee, opens a box and presents a diamond ring. She says yes, they jump up into each others arms, a lasting embrace, a heart felt kiss, a flash of light, then nothing.
The darkness slowly fades, his eyes open to a new world. Kirei doesn't remember how he got here, doesn't remember if he was conscious before this. He doesn't even know if those thoughts, those memories of a proposal, just happened or if he was simply reminiscing. It doesn't matter now, for he had awoken from his slumber in the Rukon District. Again if you were to ask him now, he couldn't remember the district number, but he does remember that it was an agricultural district. He learned later that that flash of light after his kiss was the first Atomic Bomb ever dropped in history. He knew he was dead now, and he searched for some time for that nameless girl, he never did find her. He gave up the search, and started to work in his District, farming the land. Their he ran into his first taste of Durian fruit, the smell repulsed him but the taste intrigued him and he instantly feel in love, hence the earrings. It was a few years after his death that he decided that he was done farming and moved on to something new, something exciting, the world of Shinigami's.
It wasn't long before Kirei entered the Academy and their he began his training. He practiced day and night with the blade, honing his skills. He attempted, and failed, at Kidō. He did marginally well in leadership and a bit better in teamwork. And last of all he was okay at strategy and thinking. Even though he sucked in other areas, excelled in the blade, and averaged out everywhere else, he eventually passed, 6 or 7 years after admittance. He decided to try out for Squad 8, because he did not quite know what he wanted, but he knew he could perform well given the chance. That's where he spends his days now, trying to earn respect and raise his skills.
Combat
Strengths
Kirei is excellent at blade skills, has an above average stamina, and occasionally he can come up with a good idea or tactic.
Weaknesses
Kirei has an average speed which can be easily out-matched, his defense needs work, he cannot use kidō to save his life, and he tries to see the good in everyone, easily being manipulated.
