Appearance
Kanaye is an extremely beautiful maiden whose exotic looks often make others question if she is either Japanese or a mix. She is average in height standing a little over five foot seven with a slender and shapely body that often becomes a center of attraction with members of the opposite sex. This however is credited to her large bust which on a personal note those measurements are locked deep within the recesses of her mind.
Her skin seems to radiate as if she were come celestial goddess with it being of near perfect in terms of complexion. Despite what condition her body is in her beauty will always cause one to take a second or third glance. Her almond shaped ice blue eyes seem to stare out in a gentle way offering warmth to those who manage to catch Kanaye’s gaze. Many residents of Soul Society often mistake her for being of noble birth, but it is a misconception as Kanaye is what nobles describe as a rose amongst weeds.
Her hair is a beautiful reddish brown that is admired by everyone who views the unique texture and style. The shimmer and feather like appearance is natural for Kanaye allowing her to go days without showering, and still retain a sense of elegance. It is rumored that when Kanaye decides to use beauty creams, and make-up her features are strong enough to make one die again.
The mannerisms of Kanaye show her common heritage while she rarely will walk in proper noble fashion. She tends to walk in a rather carefree fashion with her arms behind her back or head with the wind blowing in her unkempt yet uniquely styled hair. Her attire is somewhat like the standard Shihakushou, with a few alterations to the cloth. The upper kimono usually is longer, and used more akin to that of a large jacket. Underneath the kimono-Jacket, Kanaye wears a vest-like garment which pretty much shows a small amount of cleavage in the bust portion while her shoulders and abdomen are in full view. Her Hakama is standard with the slits showing several bandages instead of flesh, as Kanaye isn’t one to completely show off all her body.
Personality
Kanaye is a carefree young woman who despite having a noble’s face will not think lowly of a person by their appearance or actions. There have been many circumstances due to her becoming engaged to a noble that has made the relatives a little uneasy about letting Kanaye into their clan. It is something that she is often scolded on, but the lessons always seem to be forgotten as Kanaye believes life should be one adventure after the other.
An odd individual to others Kanaye seems to exhibit a variety of traits that often make her noticeably conceited, and spiky. Having grown up in the middle to outer districts of Rukongai made Kanaye a little hesitant when meeting new people. She often believes that no-one can be trusted unless they earn it.
Kanaye also has a soft spot which is often exploited by the sweet talks of handsome men. She tries her best to hide the blush on her cheeks, but often she’ll forget how to walk properly often becoming quite a nervous wreck. This however was found out when there was no-one around to notice this sweet side of Kanaye. The second another person entered the room; Kanaye would immediately turn away and try to find an excuse for why she acted in such a way.
Being stubborn as a mule is another aspect that apparently had a beneficial effect on Kanaye’s life. It allowed her to push herself forward in the Shinigami academy, as well as ignoring the constant badgering from her soon to be noble in-laws. It was often a cause for concern, as Kanaye was viewed as a delicate bird, while to Seireitei she was a devil-woman who lived for battle. She would often return with wounds on her body from intense sparring while trying to make the situation seem as if it were comparable to a simple fall.
In the end, Kanaye is a woman who is extremely dependable and would gladly throw herself into the fray if it were to protect a close friend or loved one. Even if that said person was wrong to begin with Kanaye would take the blows associated with the crime. This happened several weeks after becoming an academy student where she and her former best friend got into trouble with a group from the class higher than her. After a heated argument an all out brawl ensued with Kanaye and her friend both leaving battered with the upperclassmen beaten.
History
Kanaye has always been rather awkward as a small child growing up due to certain ability to see spiritual phenomena since birth. She was always quite social with these spiritual beings, and for some reason felt a longing to be one with them. As things progressed through her easy childhood, Kanaye was given the best things in life from her parents, and relatives. Being from a wealthy family, it was quite apparent that she would receive items, and things on a daily basis. She made a few friends growing up, but many of them weren’t as interesting as the spirit beings Kanaye saw during the night.
During this phase in her life, Kanaye was viewed as a happy child that needed little supervision from her parents. She would wander day to day in the large estate the family held, and would sometimes accompany her mother to various shops and stores. She was a beautiful child, and was always complimented about it on a constant basis. Kanaye’s mother wanted to put her in pageants in order to make use of her beautiful daughter, but it was shot down by Kanaye’s father who didn’t want to manipulate his innocent daughter.
The years came to pass, and Kanaye entered high school arc of her life. By now her ability to see the departed dwindled to the point where it was only blurs against the walls or windows of the city. She ignored such objects now, and refused to communicate with them. Kanaye in turn became quite a social butterfly becoming the idol at her high school. Every girl wanted to be like her, and all the boys wanted to be better acquainted with her. Sadly, due to her personality it was nearly impossible to get close to Kanaye, she would sometimes be too stubborn, or too shy to even consider others feelings.
Kanaye ultimately found herself hanging out with her small group on the rooftops of the school where an ominous figure watched her from day to day. Ever since her birth this shadow of a figured watched her with a lustful eye. With the prominent hole in its chest, it was clear what this manner of beast was. It was a hollow, a creature that had once killed a Shinigami bearing the similar face as Kanaye.
It lusted for years waiting for Kanaye to develop into the form of which the Shinigami was during their epic battle. Kanaye eventually moved up into her last year of High School brining her reputation with her. She was quite developed now into a beautiful young woman that had everyone trying to become her “Special friend” Kanaye knew a majority of the students, and it was one reason that made her gain a seat on the student council. She spent a majority of her time handing out documents promoting the student body to vote on key issues at the school. Some of which were joke topics which many where shot down by the school administration. Kanaye was quite the troublesome student despite having great grades her personality and rebellious nature seemed to flourish a lot around the other students.
This was most likely the best time in her whole life. Kanaye would spend the days with her friends, and learn to become something that her parents would be proud of. Her skills were growing academically and physically while colleges and universities were starting to take interest in this girl. However as the interest grew towards Kanaye from other humans, the lustful desire from the very hollow that has been watching her for so long became uncontrollable. The hollow decided that her soul had come along to the point where eating her would be most satisfying. Kanaye loved walking home despite her parents always sending a luxury car to pick her up every afternoon. She would stroll through the park on a casual stroll every Friday, and this is where the attack occurred. The hollow appeared in the shadows of the tree line, and viciously attacked Kanaye.
With only a simple grasp of her neck it snapped like a twig under his supernatural strength. Kanaye’s soul was thrown from her body, and the hollow turned his attention from the dead body to the soul. Kanaye was to overcome with the weakness of being a soul in the human world. Her body was far too weighed down. In her greatest moment of peril the hollow grasped her body, the hollow laughed and let out a lengthy monologue while his clawed hands held Kanaye towards his jaw filled with razor sharp teeth. Kanaye’s eyesight faded to black, while the teeth dug into her shoulder. She screamed out in agony while the hollow’s teeth dug in deeper, before they stopped short. The hollow’s head was removed from its body, and it quickly dissolved leaving a perfect view of a Shinigami. The shinigami had familiar features, but before Kanaye could say anything she lost consciousness.
Kanaye found herself wandering the middle districts of Rukongai for days trying to figure out where she was. She asked many people, and the answers were all the same. She had died, and came to this place called Soul Society. Out of all the people there Kanaye, came to befriend an elderly man whose son had become a Shinigami in the walled castle of Seireitei. Kanaye was offered shelter, and she took it without thinking.
Here is where her life would begin anew, her memories of living faded with each passing year. At this house is where Kanaye learned several things that she didn’t know about in the real world. The first thing that she learned how to do, was cook a decent and well proportioned meal for both her and the elderly man that had saved her from the streets. Here is where Kanaye had found a penchant for making Onigiri and made it a daily chore to eat a box full of them while staring off a bridge that was nearby the home.
On one day Kanaye returned home to the sight of a noble’s carriage and the several vassals guarding the front. The old man that had been taking care of her had lied to her the whole time she had been staying in Soul Society. The elderly man was part of the Shinozaki household, and as a ritual for the heir of the family a wife from Rukongai was always selected.
As a result of this tradition, the Shinozaki family has always had heirs that were successful Shinigami. Sadly this seemed to have skipped the current generation, and the strong spirited Kanaye was selected. There was much resistance to the wedding, as Kanaye tried her very best to get out of being married to the meek man that she was to become tied to for eternity. After much disappointment, Kanaye was forced to move into the expansive estate within the walls of Seireitei.
It was during the last few moments and days before the wedding that Kanaye had managed to slip out of the Shinozaki estate in Seireitei, and to the Shinigami Academy for their annual examination. There her spiritual power was tested and processed. It was only moments after passing the test that vassals belonging to the family entered the academy’s walls to witness Kanaye receiving her acceptance letter.
Kanaye was brought back to the Shinozaki house with great damaged done to the vassals placed in charge of brining her back. It was a comical week for Kanaye as she was either gagged or tied in her room in order to prevent her from escaping. The wedding day was the most irritating day in Kanaye’s life while she acted as if she were interested in the squabbles of Noble life.
The months to follow however grew rather calm with only the advisors yelling at Kanaye for being extremely lazy when asked to perform wifely chores. She simply ignored them while taking on her obligation in becoming a Shinigami. This process continued for several years leading up to Kanaye’s graduation and her sorting into the thirteen court squads.
Originally Kanaye was given options by the Shinozaki Family as to which division she was to be accepted into. Being somewhat frightened if something were to happen to the lady of the house, the tenth division was the first option for Kanaye to interview for.
Sadly, by having little to no experience outside the academy it pretty much put Kanaye near the bottom of the list for applicants. The raw talent in her movement style was well liked by scouts from both the third and thirteenth squads. She was capable of making sound decisions while performing duties exceeding that of an academy student. Her final examination proved her to be a prime candidate for both divisions.
Kanaye being scouted by the two divisions at the same time caused somewhat of a distortion inside her. She wanted to be attached to a division where she could best protect her loved ones and eventually after a hard week of contemplation a decision was made. Finding the third to be slightly better by their patrolling of a set “hot” area opposed to only dealing with specific hollow that was offered by the Thirteenth.
Combat
Strengths
Kanaye is known to be a master swords woman whose unorthodox style has turned her into somewhat of a feared individual. She can swiftly subdue enemies without wasting too much energy on useless actions. Her slender frame also compliments the unconventional combat style enabling her to perform quick movements and rotations. By using these means Kanaye can easily get a position that could be used to her advantage.
Her speed is credited to her frame enabling her to run faster and act akin to that of a free runner using static obstacles that normally aren’t used to propel a person’s momentum to her advantage. This will allow to her cover more ground in a matter of seconds by sliding, climbing, running and flipping like a mixture of an Olympic gymnast, and a crafty criminal from a seedy underworld.
Weaknesses
Although being a melee specialist has its advantages, Kanaye is easily overwhelmed by Kidō spells. She has the ability to dodge them, but avoiding damage is simply impossible. The worst aspect of this weakness is her inability to adequately channel enough of her spiritual power to maintain a stable spell without it exploding or reversing on her.
Being extremely stubborn and never knowing when to quit is another example of her known weaknesses. She tends to boast, and underestimate her enemies allowing them to gain an advantage against her. This has been utilized countless times with her receiving gruesome wounds, yet always returning to her feet despite how fatal they are.
Kanaye’s slender frame is also a downfall as her attacks require many strikes to take down a toughened foe, or heavily armored being. It is easily capable for a stronger opponent to easily overwhelm Kanaye if she is grabbled and caught in a ranger where her Zanpakutō is incapable of slashing with precision.
