Personality

First and foremost, not many people would pick Jin out to be the intelligent-type when he clearly is; he possesses an IQ most would consider ‘elite’. However, he’s not the type to boast his intelligence as to seem arrogant, but he’s definitely not the most willing of people. In high school he was considered to be an outcast and a stoner due to his behavior, but even if he did do some drugs every now and then his intelligence didn’t diminish the slightest. Jin wasn’t the type to have many friends because he didn’t entirely fit the ‘cool’ or ‘popular’ image, mainly because he dressed differently and had abnormal white hair. Much to his chargin, he didn’t care what people thought of him, but he did care about other people, something that still exists with him today and is evident in his job: working at Okumichi City Hospital as a trauma surgeon with an extraordinary success rating.

For a healthy, intelligent person, Jin has a variety of bad habits. First off, he’s a smoker; he can be found smoking small cigars on almost every occasion, but he only suffers a loss of breath if he's moving around too much. Plus, it keeps his weight down since he is a voracious eater with a slow metabolism. He’s usually found with a lighter, some snacks, and a small tin of thick-rolled cigarettes. For the spiritually-sensitive, his reiatsu signature reeks of tobacco almost as much as the signature itself, but he has a simple trick for that: cologne that masks most of the tobacco scent with a sort of faint musk scent. He’s also a clean freak; he can’t stand being in contact with contaminated surfaces & substances, keeping a healthy physical barrier with him at all times (namely, a pair of latex rubber gloves and hand sanitizer).

As intelligent as Jin claims to be, he doesn’t have a complete memory. He’s not sure why he suffers from partial amnesia, but he thinks it could be because his early encounters with his inner hollow ate away at his past. When he looks to the future, Jin thinks his full memory will never be fully restored, but his hopes tend to lead him down another path…

History

Jin’s history has been mostly unclear. He’s taken the cover story of growing up in the northern region of Osaka with a Quincy father and mother whom are deceased when in reality his parents were consumed by Hollows, sending him to live with his uncle and his aunt in Tokyo. This was where he picked up the Quincy’s Destructive Arts while attending Tokyo Elementary up to High School, graduating by the time he was 17 years old. He did well in all of his classes, taking only two IQ tests and having results that put him in front of the rest of the student body as far as grades. Jin also pursued his Quincy Art studies diligently, proving to be quite the student of his uncle and an all around junior Quincy initiate.

In his transitional period, Jin had to undergo a rather dreadful experience when he witnessed his aunt and uncle be devoured alive by a swarm of Hollows descending upon his apartment. All he could do was watch on in horror as his parental figures were slaughtered by the monstrous souls, making mincemeat out of them in a bloody mess. Fortunately he had enough training in the Quincy Arts that he was able to send a hailstorm of arrows on all of the culprits, making sure they never made it to the Underworld in one piece. While there appeared to be no motive for the onslaught, Jin found a crushed Hollow Bait coin in his uncle's Quincy storeroom, assuming it was purely accidental; it shamed Jin to know that such a simple thing like a Hollow Bait could cause such a nasty mess. After that, he was living his life on his own and getting by, making sure he had his cigarettes and all of his most important possessions that he could salvage from the mess, including his uncle’s Sanrei glove and his stash of Quincy supplies.

In trying to forget the incident, Jin immediately moved onto college, taking medical classes at Tokyo University and graduating with the equivalent of a Masters Degree. Jin ended up majoring in Surgical Medicine while he took a minor in Oriental Medicine, making him suited for a career in the medical field. He got his first job offer in Okumichi City Hospital’s Trauma Unit, leaving Jin with little other option than to take the job and use it as a cover for his Quincy status so he could train and become the best he could be. He was well on his way to mastering his unique techniques when a freak human-like hollow ambush took Jin by surprise and stabbed him in two crucial areas: the chain of fate and the backside of the neck. In the end he managed to destroy his opponent and treat the critical wounds, but he fell ill in the wake of the event not from his injuries, but from something inside his soul. It soon spawned to memory loss, Jin being unable to remember his early childhood before middle school and little bits from his adolescence.

To reassure himself from the problem he endured, Jin came to the Pfeil Abbey run by Quincies to reassure the purity of his soul, but the self-issued test only horrified him. He seemed to be developing the symptoms of a Hollow; random blackout in the middle of a fight, voices in the back of his mind, dominance struggles, & even parts of a white mask taking form then quickly being discarded. Jin theorized that if he let this go on he ran a large risk of soul deterioration, so he quickly devised a plan to settle his inner demons. In the deep woods surrounding the Abbey, Jin sat underneath a large tree and concentrated on the inside of his soul, introspecting himself to come face to face with the entity that had taken root there. The result of Jin’s quest ended up in a temporary hollow possession, taking hold of his body and making him become a hollow in form but vegetative in actions.

His inner fight consisted of a shootout between Jin and his inner Hollow, naming itself Carrera, in a landscape comparable to that of a dead forest with trees growing gemstones for leaves on their petrified branches. Every time Jin hit his opponent, a small section of Carrera faded into nothingness. The same happened to Jin every now and then, but eventually Jin annihilated Carrera for dominance of his body and soul, reverting back to his human form in the process. While he succeeded in making temporary peace with his inner Hollow, Jin continues to be wary about what the future might hold for him since the Hollow inside his soul could either save him or become the death of him someday…

Combat

Strengths

  • Speedy: Jin is quite agile and skillful on his feet; he’s not an easy target to hit.
  • Trick Shot: Through shooting his Quincy bow for some time, Jin developed the skill necessary to make his multiple arrows capable of anything from curve shots to spiral shooting paths and even boomerang & hairpin strikes; this makes him capable of shooting around direct barriers or shielding objects.
  • Support: Jin’s intelligence & diligent study has earned him various expertise in certain passive skills; he finds prowess in stealth & recovery.

Weaknesses

  • Frail Body: Jin isn’t designed to take a beating; a few critical hits will put him out of commission or make way for his second persona.
  • Arrogant: Jin is quite the stuffy chain smoker; people can often see him being stubborn or unable to find common ground in most circumstances.
  • Last Strike: A natural defensive player, Jin will try to use his wits and his alternative techniques to win a confrontation rather than use his bow.
