Appearance
Izanami's heritage is evident in her customized attire. Her glasses are simple and elegant, framing her magenta eyes. She sports a very short hakama, resembling a skirt, complemented by thigh high socks. Her shihakusho is tied by an elegant silver obi, crafted by herself as are most of her accessories. Izanami's long, green hair is typically tied back, woven around a jeweled tsumami kanzashi (a silk origami hair ornament). She stands at about 5' tall, and weighs 88 lbs.
Personality
Most of the time, Ginshokkou Izanami is a very level-headed woman. She typically keeps to herself, but has no qualms socializing with her colleagues, and occasionally strikes up small talk on her own accord. When opened up to, she will happily chat with just about anyone. Her pampered upbringing has conditioned her to talk formally with most people, though Izanami sporadically lapses into a casual manner, her hidden behavior shining through. She follows orders without even a spark of defiance, but she doesn't always comprehend right away, and will often need things to be repeated to her for a thorough understanding. Izanami tries hard, putting forth great effort to accomplish her goals, but encounters setbacks when made to do something that doesn't appeal to her; she tends to put off paperwork until the last minute, barely finishing each work load in time.
She hates to see cute things get hurt, and the idea of her friends dying makes her blood run cold. For this reason, she stands adamantly between the things she cares for and those that would do them harm. She puts her heart and soul into aiding the wounded, preserving their life by any means at her disposal. Izanami studies medicine and anatomy relentlessly, aiming to be the best field medic she can be.
Izanami displays a few unusual traits outside of her reserved demeanor. For instance, she likes to read in her spare time; her collection of manga from the Human World is especially impressive. She will typically accost Shinigami on their way to a mission, and get them to purchase said reading material on her behalf. It is not uncommon to see her shoving a sum of money in her victims' hands in front of the Senkaimon. She has some oddities about her, occasionally acting like a pettanko, on account of her smaller assets. She can be quite amorous, depending on people she takes a liking to and is uncommonly open minded about intimacy. Izanami has a rare condition that causes her brain to interpret physical pain as pleasure. Because of this, she is a masochist through and through. This often results in her getting banged up in many different ways, as the body's natural response to protect itself from injury is crippled because of this condition. In the event that she becomes too damaged, Izanami will often resort to using her shikai as a makeshift "safe word"; with its ability to totally repair non-fatal injuries, she can keep herself from becoming too messed up.
History
The Ginshokkou Family is a prosperous clan of nobles residing in Rukongai's 1st District. They are skilled artisans of fine cloth, tailors of the many garments of the denizens of Soul Society. While they produce a line of clothing for the commoners of Rukongai, their biggest customers are the other noble families, who commission elegant and elaborate attire. The family is lead by a matriarch, traditionally their highest calibre artisan, though in recent years the family has since become more wealthy; they are now typically headed by the first born daughter of the previous matriarch.
Ginshokkou Izanami is the next in line to be head of the family. A natural born soul, she was raised since birth like a princess, pampered by the house servants for much of her life. She was an obedient child, rarely invoking more discipline than the minimal, and her guardians were lacking in the punishment department even when she did misbehave. As she grew older, she began to experience the first signs of her current condition. Izanami eventually reached a point where she ordered her servants to punish her. She kept this secret from her mother, her Shinigami father having long since perished in the line of duty.
Like most of her family, she took an interest in the trade that lead them to prosperity, though she chose an specific specialization. Izanami prefers to craft elaborate obi, as well as other sashes, scarves, stoles, and, perhaps not surprisingly considering her choice of division, bandages. In her early life, her father would often bring her souvenirs from the Human World, igniting within her a penchant for some of its merchandise.
She eventually began to display signs of a having potent reiatsu, and chose to enroll in the Shinigami Academy. Izanami was quickly placed in the top class, showing a high proficiency for kidō. Her skill at the healing arts was especially great, and with the encouragement of her family and friends, aspired to join the Fourth Division and become a Field Medic. She rigorously studied, becoming well known in her class as "book butterfly," making light of her social standing. Izanami paid no mind to the nickname, focusing instead on achieving her dream. She excelled in healing kidō, performing relatively average in the other areas of the Shinigami ways.
Ginshokkou Izanami soon graduated at the top of her class, successfully joining the Fourth Division. She quickly became a reliable Field Medic, always one of the first to respond to a crisis.
Combat
Strengths
Master of Anatomy: Izanami's extensive studies of the body are evident in the way she utilizes her healing kidō. Her vast knowledge of the anatomical structure of humanoid figures allows her to mend even critical injuries.
First Aid Expertise: Izanami's chosen specialization allows her to quickly identify injuries and apply appropriate preliminary medical attention. She has saved a number of lives with her steady hand and precise triage.
Glutton For Punishment: Izanami does not feel physical pain; rather, she interprets the sensation as pleasure, allowing her to ignore the body's natural measures of self-preservation and go about her business.
Weaknesses
Strong Like Plastic: Though she can tolerate pain, she is far from immune to damage. Having spent most of her life in luxury, she isn't really built to be taking the kind of injuries she would otherwise like to.
Tactical Failure: Izanami isn't very educated in the ways of strategic combat. She can follow orders well enough, but she couldn't be asked to come up with a battle plan.
Psycholo-what?: She isn't suited for the therapy aspect of the medical division. Naturally, she isn't always on the ball when it comes to figuring out what someone else is thinking.
