Appearance
Toru is all limbs and almost no body. Standing at around 179 cm most of her height comes from her legs, so when she sits down she looks impossibly small.
She has a delicate and narrow face, with slender greenish eyes. Her hair is a roan colour, and when it is let out reaches to her mid thigh. Though her hair is usually kept up in a pair of pointed buns at the top of her head.
She wears a string of Jade beads on her right wrist and a turquoise pendant.
Personality
Because Toru was born in the north of Japan, she is used to the cold and is actually quite fond of it. Although if it gets too hot for her she will try her best to find somewhere cold to wait the heat out, if she can’t get out of the heat she becomes very irritable and will snap at almost anyone as the heat fries any common sense she posses.
As she spent her 17 years growing up at a Fox Shrine, Toru has developed many fox-like qualities which leads Toru to play tricks (or mind games) on people around her, no matter what their relationship is. Due to this she has become an adept liar, not only does this talent help her weave some elaborate tricks it also gets her out of trouble if/when she gets caught.Some of the more obvious fox-traits includes her love of food with fried tofu in it, the more the better,her fox-like face with grin to match as well as her curious nature with can and does get her into trouble now and then.
Toru is generally quite aloof and can come off quite odd and somewhat arrogant or rude to those who aren’t used to her ways of thinking. However she is very protective of the members of her squad and her friends this is due to her highly strung value system of right and wrong which in places is a little different to everyone else's versions. Toru also has a strong sense of duty, and tends to lead others who are below her rank or she will try to lead them if they out rank her and she doesn’t believe they should.
History
Before her, shall we say ‘ascension’, into the Rokongai. Hikitoru(Toru) lived within a Fox Shrine at the North end of Chitose Town. She came from a long line of Shrine maidens. As a child she was very chubby and as she dedicated herself to her duties she became taller, thinner and more fox-like as she grew older. Everyone who visited the shrine said the Fox God Inari had become fond of her and wished to turn her into a fox to serve him, Toru was never truly sure if she believed them or not.
Toru took a keen interest in Gymnastics when she was 12 as it was a great hobby that didn’t have her long legs and arms getting in the way all the time, while practising she always felt at her most graceful.
One night, a few months after she turned 17. Toru woke up in the middle of the by the crashing of a door, her curious nature getting the better of her she went to investigate the noise. What she found were 4 boys maybe 2 years older than her. They were trying to break into the offering box to steal the money inside. After calling out for help Toru flew at the boy trying to get into the box. She can say for certain that she remembers seeing the bar in his hand and then her hitting the ground he head feeling damp, other than that she couldn’t tell you, even after arriving in the Rokongai.
It didn’t take Toru long to find a place within the Rokongai, Her quick movements and her sharp thinking quickly got her living and working in an out of the way Dojo as a cleaner. One day while she set to work cleaning and washing, the master of the dojo commented on her lankiness as she hung out sheets to dry, saying that while she had her arms spread out to put the sheets up to dry it reminded him of the cranes that live along the rivers and encouraged her to take up martial arts where her arms and legs became her best defence as she learnt the ways of the Crane.
After 2 years she soon caught the eye of the Shinigami academy and was permitted to join. Toru found that her gymnastic ability and basic knowledge in Crane Defence helped her easily pick up her teachings in Hakuda and Hohō, she also had little trouble in Zanjutsu. Kidō proved a little harder and while she passed Toru only feels truly confident in her ability to cast five of the spells she was taught, which she will use without too much of a thought.
Graduating the academy had her placed into Division 2 where her foxish wiles and unnerving smile was just what the division needed for collecting intelligence and getting into locations that others wouldn’t be able to get into due to size or ability to lie better than any tatami mat freshly made or worn.
Combat
Strengths
Gymnastic – Due to her flexible nature she can bend herself into nearly any position, and thanks to her Hakuda and Crane training she wastes very little movement and energy.
Secret Keeping – If someone doesn’t need to know something she won’t tell them no matter how many threats, curses, or pleading comes her way.
Reads Others – though not psychic, Toru can generally get a good sense on what a person is thinking or feeling. Not “I’m hungry I’ll have some rice balls” so much as she knows the person is hungry and wants to eat.
Weaknesses
Long Limbs – While she knows how to get the best out of her arms and legs she still sometimes gets caught up in them from time to time.
Lacks confidence in Kidō – Toru tends to avoid using any spells she can’t produce perfectly every time. So she only uses five spells.
Aversion to heat - Toru loathes the heat in most of its forms, and does as much as she can to keep away from situations that will increase her temperature. If it's a hot day she becomes crabby and argumentative and very inactive. in a battle situation Toru becomes confused and has trouble focusing.
