Appearance
Hanako, at 6'1", is an averaged-sized young man. Despite being relatively svelt, his time as a member of Seireitei's 13th division has had it's effect on him, building slight muscle in the right places. Naturally light-skinned, exposure to the sun over Seireitei and Okumichi alike have recently begun to set a light tan on his skin. Due to his not running around naked all day long, the tan hasn't set in 'everywhere', just far enough to cover anything that normally shows. Not that it matters much regardless; The tan is light enough to go unnoticed at a distance, anyway. Hanako's hime-cut hairstyle and eyes are both a complete raven black, by nature. He wears a silver brooch specifically designed as the symbol of whatever squadron he currently works under; In this case, a summer snowflake. Because he takes care of his lengthy locks (unlike some... 'people'), Hanako's hair maintains a nice sheen to complement it's seemingly processed-straight texture. Note: Even so much as implying that he uses such harmful materials in his hair is enough to depress the youthful shinigami. Despite not having any facial hair as of yet, Hanako has developed a masculine face, for the most part. Formerly quite the scrawny thing, Hanako has put on about 30 pounds, all lean muscle; His uniform actually fits now, thank god.
Hanako's uniform is extremely form-fitting, in order to avoid 'accidents' during battles (the personal experiences are always the most scarring, aren't they?), as well as for maneuverability. The kosode of his uniform is tucked in properly, but the right sleeve, correspondent to his dominant hand, has been cut away as far as the shoulder. The other no longer extends past his hands, instead stopping just short of his wrist. Again, practicality rules. The hakama of his uniform bears little to no change from the natural uniform. Because you can never tell when it's going to rain, Hanako keeps an old-fashioned parasol with him at all times. Seriously. he keeps it tucked away on his right side, opposite his zanpakuto.
Aside from possibly one other shinigami outside of his family, Hanako carries three tattoos on his upper back, which form a triangle from his left scapula to his right. The tattoos read as his sister's names, Tama, Hanabi and Midori, all in kanji.
Personality
Hanako has come to be seen as one of the more 'mellowed' shinigami of the 13th division. Opposed to his former 'good manners and traditions' persona that he entered into the shinigami academy with, the young man has grown into a more open-minded lifestyle. Calm and collected in almost all situations (save for those days where god, or whatever you believe in, is clearly out for blood), he hides a wisdom and maturity that most wouldn't expect, even from him. His 'talk first, ask questions later' policy has recently put him at ends with his job, which, well... involves more shooting than either of the above. Regardless, Hanako is a proficient combatant in situations that others can't handle, due to his 'unique' abilities. There was a time when anyone he met would and could consider him a 'loner', or someone who values private time over anything else. Not that he's the center of attention now or anything, but being around so many different types of people has made the young man into a 'people person'. More or less.
Hanako hates arguing, especially over petty things. If a situation can be resolved by his saying 'fine, you win', it will. Despite that, he has a way of irritating people around him who lack the ability to think like him; Those 'shoot first, ask questions later' types. Funny, considering that was the attitude he originally joined the academy with.
History
Hanako was born on the 1st hour of April 3, 1924, to a family of five; A mother, a father, and three sisters, Tama, Hanabi, and Midori. The night of his birth, Hanako's mother was released from the hospital along with her child, and together, the family returned home and celebrated to welcome their new son into this life. Hanako's sisters often fought over who would hold him; they were, from the moment they saw him, very affectionate of him.
Hanako spent 4 years together with his family in perfect harmony. He was the youngest by a longshot, the two eldest sisters having been born only minutes apart 7 years earlier, and the third sister having been born only 2 years after them. Thus, Hanako was subject to the entire family's attention, save for his father who worked long hours; Needless to say, they babied the boy to no end, and between his mother's affection and his sisters' constant presence, Hanako's personality was set early on in his life.
However, like all good things, that came to an end one night, when after a long night of work, Hanako's father came in late at night, and forgot to lock the door. This, coincidentally, was a problem, because that same night, roughly two hours later, a thief broke into their home. Altercations arose when that same thief came across Hanako and his three sisters, who'd happened to have been up, getting some milk. The youngest sister screamed, loud enough to wake up her parents. The oldest tried to get all three of her siblings away from the man and to some form of safety, but she could not. The entire scenario ended with the criminal 'accidentally' killing the mother, three daughters and the boy, having been the only one of the entire group holding a weapon.
Hanako was so young at the time, the mere age of 4 years old, that he hardly could recall the incident, and therefore, it was easiest for him to come to terms with death, and the afterlife. All of his family was sent to the 2nd district of the rukongai, in which they would live out the remainder of their days in peace, where no bad people could ever harm them again; Together as a family they were sent off into the next life, in order to ensure that no further hardships would separate them, or make their transition any worse than it might have already been. And it was this way that Hanako grew up, in orderly, peaceful settings. The dull memory of his decent into the afterlife eventually faded away and was replaced by all of the happy memories of being with his family.
As they grew up, things started to 'change' slightly, bit by bit. One by one, with the exception of their mother, the family began to slowly accumulate spiritual energy over the years, which eventually escalated to the point in which one day, a shinigami representing the fifth division came along, and informed Hanako's family of the annual recruiting for the shinigami training program. It ended as one might have expected it to; Starting with the oldest, the sisters eventually would decide to enroll in the program, in order to make something of themselves. Tama enrolled first, followed by Hanabi, who enrolled the same year; Midori would enroll the following year. And much like his sisters, the year after that, Hanako enrolled as well. Hanako would graduate and be placed in the thirteenth division, away from his sisters, who all placed into the 5th; However, they still keep in touch with each other and 'gossip' on many occasions.
Combat
Strengths
Proficiency: Hanako is a fan of doing things simple and clean, wherever possible; In or outside of battle, he rarely ever will use more than the necessary amount of energy required to preform a task.
Negotiation: Hanako is very much capable of sorting out situations with words before actions; due to this, he can resolve many situations easily over negotiation.
Sadism: Hanako derives the feeling of pleasure from inflicting pain upon others or watching others in pain. Psychologically, it gives him a mentally 'colder' edge in battle; He, unlike most shinigami, wants to see his opponents suffer, and will do anything to inflict said suffering.
Weaknesses
Frailty: Due to his slender shape, and younger body, Hanako cannot take very many head-on hits, as it quickly adds up.
