Appearance
Hakada stands at about 183cm tall, and weighs in at about 70kg. His build is moderately heavyset, due to his habit of visiting the gym twice weekly and his habit of jogging or cycling everywhere--he doesn't possess a car.
His hair is cropped short for ease, but he keeps himself stubbly--in fact he's decidedly furry. He always dresses in clothes at least two sizes too big for himself, keeping his pants on only by dint of suspenders and a belt.
Personality
Hakada is pretty easygoing most of the time, believing strongly in the comfortable life. He's a great fan of beanbags, dozing off in the onsen, and soft fluffy things.
Confronted with trouble, he tends to run and hide, almost always finding somebody who he thinks can supply for him and protect him. In the past it was his parents, now it's his employer, and increasingly it's Haribou Gafuruu.
Hakada doesn't like cramped spaces or crowds; part of this is his reaction to his formative years, and part of it is that he's never quite gotten used to the idea of clothes and finds them confining, however loose they may be. As a result, he tends to absentmindedly take off or loosen his clothing whenever uncomfortable or idle, leading to embarrassing situations.
History
Hakada's story really begins with his parents, who met when young and in university; they were classmates, fell in love, and married.
It was some time after their marriage and before Hakada's birth that the young couple ran into problems and needed help; not wanting to admit their problems to anybody outside the family--not even to the in-laws--they simply resigned from their jobs and entered a small nudist colony in the countryside some miles away from Okumichi, believing that only by hiding absolutely nothing from each other (or indeed from anybody, they could repair the damage to their marriage.
It did, and two years after they had joined the little community, Hakada was conceived. His birth was a difficult one and required professional intervention, which was the only reason he had a birth certificate at all.
The community of about 300 managed to subsist in the deserted area, planting their own crops and being generally self-supporting if not well-off, despite Okumichi's expansion and eventual encroachment on the colony's land.
Hakada was nineteen when the development started to actively encroach on the community's land, and he was fascinated and curious about how everything worked outside--it looked so much better than he'd been told it was. He was also forbidden to go into it, which made it doubly fascinating. He and some friends went into town one day, under the pretext of going off to fish.
Naturally this did not go over well when they were found out--especially because they returned to the colony accompanied by police officers who were intent on delivering lectures about public nudity and the morals of Okumichi and exacting a fine--but Hakada wanted out, sensing that there was a level of comfort to be achieved in the outside world that simply didn't involve grubbing for berries and shoots and fish.
So he escaped one night, headed into town, and (to avoid being arrested again) snuck into a backyard and stole some clothes hanging out. Unfortunately, he was caught. Fortunately, the clothes fit and he was allowed to keep them. Unfortunately, he had to pay for the clothes by labouring for them.
Thus he became Darius O'Blatum's employee, where he learned about the world at large and gained some skills in preparing food and drinks and eventually became one of Darius's favourite employees, staying on long after his initial debt had been repaid.
It wasn't long before the colony began searching for him to bring him back to the fold of truth and honesty and letting everything hang out, and they eventually found him through the letters he periodically sent to his parents along with a little money. They constantly attempted to convince him to give up the city and its wicked clothed ways, but tended to stick to hanging around waiting for him to come out so they could plead with him or give impassioned lectures.
Then one night, Gafuruu met Darius (having not seen each other since graduation day despite being frat brothers) and the colony crashed Darius's new bar, exasperating Darius and generally being a lot more bother than they'd ever been before.
Darius asked Gafuruu to take Hakada in for a few weeks to attempt to convince the colony that Hakada had gone out of their reach, and Gafuruu agreed; Hakada moved in the next day.
