Gyobigata

Gyobigata is Kyuugou Ayako's Zanpakutō.
Gyobigata is just your average wakizashi when unreleased. Nothing odd about it at all. The wrapping is dark purple and the crossguard is shaped kinda like half a yin-yang taijitu, but really that's cause it looks a little like a swimming fish, rather than any taoist symbolism! Ayako keeps it attached to her back, on the harness that she attaches her fireworks to.

Spirit Description

Gyobigata's forms are as fluid as the water he inhabits. In one view he is simply a koi carp, perhaps larger than the average, but still a fish whatever way you look at him. He swims around, he opens his mouth in a little surprised 'o', does fish stuff!

Another form is a young man dressed in Edo period clothing, the trinkets and ornate designs on his robes signify him to be of noble birth. His hair is long and flows lazily as if underwater, even when he's not. He always has a pleasant smile on his face, and rarely speaks. When he does speak, his voice is almost musical, like a slow flute tune.

Gyobigata's true form, however, is a ningyo, mixing the appearances of his two previous forms. His lower body is that of a carp, his upper body resembling, in shape at least, the body of the young man. Thin and well-built, the back of his forearms are characterised by the line of a fin ending at his wrists. His fingers are webbed. His entire body is white, like the koi he represents, and his face is a mixture of human and fish features, not unattractive, but nothing like his human form. He has a birthmark like red splotch covering the left side of his face, a few splatters of it spreading to the right.

Release Command: Ageru, Gyobigata!

Gyobigata

When released, the wakizashi of Gyobigata grows in size to something resembling a heavily stylised scimitar. The blade is curved backwards, ending in a curved recess that dips in and then out, into another point. Another curve carries along the back of the blade, this too ending in a point before descending into the hilt. Gyobigata's ability comes from the curved edges on the back of the blade.

Shikai Abilities

Nami

The simplest of Gyobigata's abilities is to fire out jets of water from the back of the blade. This can be used to squirt folks with water, hydraulic jets that could probably hurt people, but whatever. It works as a good projectile weapon, but it's main use, for Ayako anyway, is when the sword is pointed the right way around..

Firing these jets of water generates an opposite force, which makes Ayako's attacks stronger than they otherwise would be. It means she can make a powerful attacks of a guy like twice her strength, and when she's airborne, that adds on top of her weight to make attacks that're a fair bit stronger than normal.

By using small and concentrated bursts of water, Ayako can also alter her trajectory when falling through the sky, she can even lift herself off the ground a little! (But the jets ain't strong enough to keep her airborne).

Taki

Instead of firing powerful jets of water, Ayako can instead create a steady stream of water. This hangs in the air like a whitewater waterfall and can act as a weak barrier towards physical objects, knocking them back and out of the water.

But the main strength of the Taki ability is when Ayako creates it in the air, above an opponent. Within moments of the rapid moving water being created, it soon dissolves and loses it's violence. When this falls to the floor, due to being enhanced by her zanpakutō, the water forms into small spear-like darts, a wide-spreading shower of piercing rain.

Uzumaki

The most powerful of Gyobigata's abilities is a combination of both Nami and Taki. By creating a ring of the waterfall around her before pointing the blade at whoever she targets, Ayako can unleash a torrential whirlpool of destruction. Without even needing to be turned, the water flows out of the zanpakutō in a spiralling fashion, before firing outwards.

The whirlpool is large enough to engulf a full-grown man, and continues to expand in size for about eighty feet before stopping. Anything caught within the whirlpool is torn back and forth, capable of breaking bones, maiming and even drowning folks, if they're unfortunate to not even be able to stumble out of the column.

Strengths

Water is a versatile ability, and the fact it's all generated by Gyobigata himself means Ayako isn't reliant on her surroundings to be water-rich to unlock her abilities. It also means nobody can take control of that water with ice type abilities or anything, cause it's magical zanpakutō water or something.

Misleading
People usually think water's not gonna really hurt them, usually cause they forget about tidal waves and tsunamis and stuff like that. Gyobigata can pack a punch, and despite using a liquid to attack, can still rip and cause cutting wounds, it all depends on the size and force applied, right?

Versatile
Three abilities from one method, Gyobigata can manipulate water in some amazing ways. And Ayako can apply them in interesting ways too, such as being able to pinpoint her descent with all the accuracy of a really accurate jet fighter or something. Sharp bursts of jet-water, broad rumbling white water rapid style waves, and whirlpools too! It's great for putting out fires, too.

Weaknesses

Water evaporates, and even though it's pretty strong, can break houses and stuff, it's still useless against some stuff. Big brick walls could probably resist Ayako's attacks. It can still smash through a good deal of stuff though!

Elemental
Elemental attacks suck sometimes, especially when matched against their opposites. Sure ice type abilities can't control the water that Gyobigata generates, but it can still freeze it, which really hinders her progress. Electric types can't hurt Ayako herself through the water, but all the excess generated on the floor could easily electrocute somebody else, which is kinda bad!

Defenceless
Okay, so Taki can repel some stuff, but not massive or persistant things. Small things like throwing starts would just get washed away, but a body, or a huge boulder... maybe not. Besides that, Ayako has no defences, so she's gotta hop around and stuff, which can be very tiring!
