Appearance
Gafuruu is a man of medium height and build, about 1.72m and 63 kg. His hair is the shorter side of medium-length, and carefully waxed into a semblance of scruffiness. He keeps a small goatee and sometimes puts (purely decorative) glasses on to peer at documents or things of interest.
In keeping with his standing as a businessman, Gafuruu tends to wear a greatcoat and an expensive silver watch. He wears two rings on the index finger of his right hand. (If one looks closely, the image of Mario and Luigi are graven onto the rings.) Otherwise, he wears well-polished black leather loafers and blue-pinstriped black slacks. Under the greatcoat, though, is a mishmash of bright colours, and his tie is always carefully chosen to clash with his shirt as much as possible.
Personality
Gafuruu prefers not to be noticed when he can, tending to work his plans through other people's hands; as a result, he can be quite duplicitous while at the same time maintaining friendly relationships with a large and eclectic array of people. He doesn't like anything he doesn't understand, and amasses as much knowledge on any subject of interest as possible. However, with a very small circle of old friends, Gafuruu becomes completely open and trusting—they are called the Bright Shirt circle, because they are the only people around whom Gafuruu doesn't wear his greatcoat.
History
Haribou Gafuruu was born in the 70's to a pair of devoted parents and three siblings—in short a classic family. However, Japan as a whole was under a severe recession at the time of his birth, and the family was forced to save money and work hard to survive.
Gafuruu's father grew steadily depressed throughout Gafuruu's youth. By the time Gafuruu was twelve, the family had eked out a small subsistence, but his father was always dissatisfied with their life and constantly tried to work more to earn more, and the continual stress eventually wore the old man out, and he died just shy of Gafuruu's thirteenth birthday of a fatal heart attack—the culmination of a long spate of ill-health.
The family's situation got no better with the loss of their breadwinner, and the costs of the funeral ceremonies only made it worse. However, with the pickup of the economy that year, the rest of the family were able to make enough money to send Gafuruu to a belated school life, where he (very conscious of the others' sacrifice) worked hard. It was during his undergraduate course that Gafuruu began seeing heat blurs where nobody else saw anything, and small objects tended to rattle in his presence—but then, his undergraduate years were characterised by a lot of near-antique objects and rattling was put down to their old age; Gafuruu did, though, begin wondering about the heat blurs. He eventually graduated with a business degree plus a little bit of infatuation for the Western world, primarily the style of dress.
The Haribou family business was established when Gafuruu was 30 and rapidly grew in prominence during the first year of its existence due to Gafuruu's own large network of acquaintances and relations, and his family's strong support.
At the present time, the Haribou family owns a small and very expensive, but very popular, restaurant on Okumichi's most prominent business street, and is doing very well; Gafuruu is the owner, and is making sure all his nieces and nephews are going to school.
Combat
Strengths
Gafuruu is quick-witted, and given any dangerous situation will immediately find a way to get out of it and avoid getting back into it again. He also has the police force on quick dial and has a basic training in jujitsu. He also has very good aim, most of which is natural but has been augmented by his newfound paintball hobby.
Weaknesses
Gafuruu is only human, and so has definite limits to his strength and speed. In addition, the kind of clothing he commonly wears is somewhat restrictive to movements.
