Fuyutsuki (Winter Moon) is Chizu Love's Zanpakutō.
The blade that Chizu carries looks like a normal katana except for the fact that it is longer than she is tall, from hilt to tip it is 60” long, the hilt comprising 12” of that length and the blade 48”. The scabbard has a long silk tie allowing her to wear the blade on her back at a diagonal so the bottom of the scabbard hovers just barely above the floor. On the scabbard near the hilt is engraved a small insignia off two wings one light and one dark encapsulated in a sphere that looks like a tiny moon.

Spirit Description

Fuyutsuki is hard to pin down in form since it tends to change depending on the phases of the moon. Between the new moon and waxing crescent she appears to be just as Chizu was when she was alive, long light brown hair, 4ft 6” tall with a pair of brilliant white wings with a golden glow that seem to be far too large for the girl that they are growing out off. After the waxing crescent and leading to first quarter she takes on Chizu’s current form. 4ft 10” tall, black dress with a white stripe and blood red hair done up in ponytails, only she has a pair of pitch black raven wings, not the charred mess that Chizu had arrived in Rukongai with but, what they should have been had she not used all their power in her death. Passing the first quarter and going onto the waxing gibbous she grows again, becoming 5ft 2”, her breasts small but, definitely present and complementing the petite frame of the teenager, her hair is cut to shoulder length and she wears eye shadow usually a light red and pink lip stick that accentuates her lips against her pale skin. The pair of wings on her back though still look ever so slightly too big, they give off a faint glow and the edge of one of her wings is turning white once again. Passing the waxing gibbous and moving to the full moon she appears to be an adult, probably 25, she’s 5ft 4” tall just about average height, her hair had grown out again but, not as long as her appearance in the waxing crescent and the first quater phases, its cut in a way to make the most of her looks, to present her as a pretty but, also a practical warrior. Her bosom isn’t much bigger than her teenaged self, probably bridging the gap of A and B cup. She’s shapely but holds herself in a standoffish kind of way always ready for battle, to strike. Her frame is still petite but, that was always going to be the case. The pair of wings on her back now about the right size, one wing is jet black the other is pure white as the Tenshi Uyoku used to be. When the moon is full Chizu meets nothing but, a blinding light unable to see Fuyutsuki in her truest form yet but, still able to converse with her. As the moon wanes once more it passes through the stages in reverse, the opposite wings affected in her more adult forms until she reaches the new moon where she is greeted by nothing but, a pitch blackness. She may be able to confer with her blade as she wishes even entering her inner world and call its name but, until she can see Fuyutsuki’s in at least one of her truest forms she will never advance to Bankai.

Shikai

Release Command: Koujou, Fuyutsuki (Rise, Winter Moon) When Fuyutsuki is released the last foot of the long blade steadily widens till it is a foot in width, the blade itself seems to have a slight inward curve and the widened end of the blade has a slight outward curve, barely noticeable as it looks relatively flat but, gives it a second cutting edge. Where the two cutting edges meet is a very fine sharp point. The back of the blade is dull but solid used for defensive blocks. Finally as it is released a black raven like wing erupts from her back, too big for her frame, the remnants of Tenshi Uyoku linking her Zanpakutou release to her Soul Seer powers, this wing like shape then shrinks and is superimposed onto the back of her clothing as an image made from silvery white lines to pick out the details of the wing.

Shikai Abilities

Tsuki Onkei (Moon’s Grace)

This is a connection back to the powers she harboured when she was living and is the only technique that she has with a direct connection back Tenshi Uyoku. This takes the ability to manipulate spatial dimensions a step further than the Tenshi Uyoku. During combat she can seem to shift like a jump or glitch in a video. This may mean one moment she appears to be attacking with her guard left open and the next her blade is suddenly blocking the strike that had been destined to strike her. This can also be used to shift her position allowing her to jump only a few inches maybe half a foot maximum to avoid or at least lessen the impact of a strike. This is done thanks to Fuyutsuki ability to manipulate space yet cannot be completely relied upon since, although gradual, each jump drains her of energy and if it forcefully manipulates her bodily orientation it can cause damage to the area that is most targeted, e.g. the shoulder or ankle due to the extreme pressure placed on it by the sudden alteration. It may only be a grace period she gains but, that could be enough to shift the tide of battle.

Kanmon Wana (Barrier Trap)

This incorporates Chizu’s wish to protect those she cares for with an offensive edge. She can summon up to 10 barriers at a time, each one will protect against a couple of strikes or one extremely heavy one. However, each barrier is infused with a kidou spell that will activate the moment it is broken striking the one who broke it with full strength. Each of the barriers will be of a differing level kidou, each level made up of 20 kidou spells, hadou and bakudou 1-10 makes up the first level and 11-20 make the second and so on. The barriers can only be summoned one at a time with the chanting of the kidou incantation but, finishing with Barrier # to indicate it’s level. Before the next level can be summoned all previous levels have to exist. However, if all 10 are summoned Chizu can replace them as she wishes. These can be directed to protect certain people, areas or things and will move pretty independently once given instructions and may be moved by those they are meant to protect.

Touketsu Tossa (Frozen Moment)

By channelling reiatsu into Fuyutsuki and driving the point into the ground she can create a barrier that can cover up to 15m radius but can be as small as necessary. During this time as long as the blade remains undisturbed the barrier will hold although it will constantly drain Chizu of energy. Ideally if she keeps contact with the blade she can regulate the energy that is fed into the barrier and where allowing her to carefully reserve as much reiatsu as possible. This technique will either be done to protect her comrades, giving them a chance to rest and heal as she keeps the enemy at bay for as long as she can or to trap her within with an enemy or enemies. Yet since she can’t use her blade she has to rely on kido within the enclosed space. It will more likely be used in the latter manner if she is intent on a more sacrificial challenge using the barrier to protect those outside from the power of the kido she plans to use. The reason it is called frozen moment is that to those outside the barrier all they can see is what it looked like prior to the barrier being put up no matter what occurs within. Only after the barrier is broken or released will the changes within become apparent.

Although those within the barrier are free to move and can see what is happening outside the barrier, they cannot freely leave the barrier. It prevents beings and attacks either entering or leaving its confines. The only difference between being inside the barrier and outside is outside can't see or sense what is going on within the barrier whereas those inside can see but, not sense, what is going on outside.

Strengths

Fuyutsuki derives its power from the innate ability that has always existed within her, whether it was amplified by her soul state or now by her Zanpakutou and that is the ability to manipulate space and the energy within that space. It is also thanks to the connection with alternate spaces and Tenshi Uyoku of her soul state that permits her to connect to aspects of her own past and future as evident by the spirit form that Fuyutsuki takes.

The Tsuki Onkei spatial manipulations grant her split second grace periods where she can narrowly avoid death, even if she can’t fully dodge the blow using this technique. This allows her to go beyond the realm of heightened senses and actually change something that is in that attosecond between future and past known as the present.

Kanmon Wana allows her to protect her companions and objective independent of her own actions, not to mention it permits her to launch surprise counter attacks on those who break the barriers she has managed to summon. With some of the lower level barriers double incantations can be done to raise their power, provided both spells come from the same level.

Touketsu Tossa allows her to access a power that is at the driving force of all her abilities and that is the wish to protect those around her. The barrier that is created gives those within a reprieve or saves those outside from the power of her spell. It also gives her a mask underneath which she and those she has protected can work preparing to launch a surprise attack even in the middle of a battle.

Weaknesses

Tsuki Onkei though it grants her those split seconds to affect what shouldn’t be affected it is just a simple evasion and as she loses strength this ability too will waver in strength so cannot be relied upon for at any point it might not work or could put her in even greater danger. Also due to the extreme pressure it can place on her manipulated body in conjunction with her pre-existing conditions it can erode her physical endurance quicker than she may expect if she is forced to continually utilise its effect.

Tsuki Onkei is a semi-conscious technique, therefore cannot protect against sneak attacks although tends to activate more on instinct than being activated due the split second decision required, although it can be consciously overridden. Also due to it requiring a combination of reiatsu and physical training it can be done once per 50 points of her total at Shikai, 40 points of her total when she has achieved Bankai and 30 points when she has achieved Senkai. However, drawbacks will start to be noticed after half (rounded up) of these glitches have been utilised.

Though powerful Kanmon Wana is a very specific power governed by certain rules. The first being that the spell has to be incanted into Fuyutsuki and then created before the next one can be formed. The second is that there can only be one barrier from each level at any one time, 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70, 71-80, 81-90, 91-100. The Third is before a higher level barrier can be summoned all previous levels must exist so she can’t create a level 5 barrier without first summoning levels 1-4. Also if an enemy destroys a barrier while she’s summoning the next level that barrier won’t form and she’d have to replace it before continuing so if she had summoned 1-5 and was chanting 6 but level 4 was destroyed she couldn’t summon the level 6 without first replacing the level 4 barrier. It can make it extremely difficult to get to the higher level barriers without assistance.

Kanmon Wana is a rather sturdy barrier to begin with but, is easily whittled down. The barrier starts of with the same level of energy as Chizu's Reiatsu control rounded down to the nearest hundred. When a barrier is attacked it recieves the full damage of the attack and doesn't regenerate.

Due to the requirement of a full incantation only one barrier can be summoned per post and can only utilise quick, no incantation, kidou in the rest of the post. Also if Chizu has to defend herself using kidou the barrier creation is disrupted. The barriers have no fixed form or shape, though at their maximum can be 6ft 8" tall and 2ft 8" wide, roughly the size of a standard interior door. As long as Chizu remains within 0.5 miles of the barrier it will remain stable and once outside the range the kidou will start to deteriorate. The time it takes for a barrier to completely dissolve is equal to 2 minutes times its level. The barriers themselves are capable of moving at a normal combat speed but, cannot keep up with enhanced speed such as that of shunpo. However, those who have the protection of the barrier can touch it and it will be dragged along with them if they used an enhanced speed technique.

Touketsu Tossa is extremely powerful and as a result extremely draining on her physically and mentally. She can hold it for up to thirty minutes providing protection to those within but, afterwards she is completely drained and unable to fight. When she reaches Bankai this limit will increase to forty-five minutes and an hour once she achieves Senkai. Generally however, she will use it for shorter bursts to give a reprieve from the rigors of combat. At the moment she can initialise it 4 times per battle for up to five minutes each. At Bankai this increases to 6 times for six minutes and once she achieves Senkai it’ll increase to 8 for seven minutes. At any point she could try and maintain it for longer than the usual time but the maximum would be the combination of the times she can do it remaining plus ten minutes. The time stated is halved if she isn’t maintaining a physical connection with Fuyutsuki. In terms of post-by-post in Non-Board Plot Threads (NBPT) each post cycle is considered to be 1 minute. In Board Plot Threads (BPT) each post cycle is considered to be 30 seconds. (NBPT = 1 min/post, BPT = 30s/post)

The barrier generally has a low energy cost when not under active attack at which point energy can be fed into or rerouted from points where it isn't needed to strengthen those sections under attack. This means that, until attacked, Touketsu Tossa is closer to an illusion. However, when attacked Chizu unleashes more energy to strengthen the section under attack. When she isn't in contact with Fuyutsuki the blade instinctively acts as if the barrier is at full power protecting from attacks from all sides, hence the reason the time is halved. The initial time periods given are representative of the barrier being attacked on a single front, north, south, east west or aerially. If it was being attacked on more than one side its effective time decrease by 10% per front. Also when she is in contact with the blade she can better regulate the energy forming the barrier hence attacking from all sides while in contact with the sword only reduces the time to 60% and not the 50% experienced when not in contact with the blade. However this is generally because the ground field is difficult to attack.

The barrier can withstand anything up to 100 points higher that her Reiatsu Control at Shikai, 200 points higher at Bankai and 300 points higher at Senkai as single attacks. Sustained attacks will eventually erode the barrier. The damage the barrier takes to one front is equal to half of that of that of the attacks power and it can regenerate 5 points of damage a post cycle at Shikai, 10 at when she achieves Bankai and 15 at when she achieves Senkai. Barrier Energy = to Reiatsu control + Barrier Bonus.

Bankai

Fuyutsuki Kanmon (Winter Moon Barrier)

Chizu has managed to pierce the land of light that has blinded her till now and become able to see Fuyutsuki in one of her truest forms, the moon in fully risen in the background of this world which had blinded her till now. The woman who stands before Chizu is tall, much taller than she had ever appeared before, 5ft 8” and has a very womanly and enticing frame. Her hair is long, wavy and pitch black in colour, her skin is the same pale grey as moonlight and she has a silver bracelet encircling the top of her left arm that appears to be a silver eye with a gold iris. Her clothing is a simple white lace dress. This is however, but one face of the moon for there is the side that sees the light and the side that casts the shadow.

There is precious little change between her shikai and bankai release for those caught within its effects, initially at least. The blade remains the same and the only change is a second wing erupts from her back, this one glows pure silvery white before, like the previous wing becoming a superimposed image on her back this time pitch black lines picking out the details of the silvery white wing. Those outside the area of effect will see a massive barrier encapsulating the area of effect that looks like the surface of the moon. This then sinks into the earth and disappears. For those inside everything will seem the same, a faux version of where they were imprinted within the barrier. Yet an illusion is easily broken and after five minute the surroundings shatter to reveal a dissipating shimmering dome.

Bankai Abilities

Fuyutsuki Kanmon

This is a major spatial translocation power allowing Chizu to move combatants within her area of effect to any location of her choosing; initially this will be the Valley of the Screams although with practise and knowledge the available destinations could include the Dangai, Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. The area affected is directly linked to her Reiatsu Control stat which at her current level of control awards her a 1m radius per 3 points of RC. This is however, the maximum she can move but, she can translocate areas smaller if she wishes. Apart from the initial release where all those with abilities and involved in the current conflict are shifted from one place to another, this power currently can't be activated again and prevents others from using techniques like garganta to enter or leave the battlefield. This effectively cuts off both sides from reinforcement. However, this only prevents movement between dimensions. It is still capable to escape the battlefield via shunpo, sonido, hirenkyaku, etc. It just isn't possible to move to a different world until Chizu's Bankai is sealed when they are all transfered back to where they began.

Kanmon Nijuushin - Kanmon Wana Heijun Ni

This is a direct advancement of Kanmon Wana from her Shikai, basically, the number of barriers she can produce doubles to twenty, only one of each tier is to exist to continue advancement as was required for the original ability. On top of this however she can sacrifice the use of her barriers to create a doppelganger or clone of herself identical in every way except they are not capable of using Kidou and all other skills are half that of her current self. She can create five of these doppelgangers, each requiring two spells be chanted into Fuyutsuki and with similar levelling system as the barriers. Only this time the two spells have to be one from the first level and one from the second level for the first doppelganger, third and four tier for the second and so on. Each doppelganger is the equivalent in energy to four barriers and the use of doppelgangers and barriers can be mixed yet they are separate from one another so even if two doppelgangers exist she still has to start from level one with the barriers and vice versa. The doppelgangers like the barriers can be given a task to defend X or now be told to attack Y. They are more resilient than the barriers capable of defensive and offensive attacks and once destroyed will release the combined kidou spells that made them.

Strengths

When activated those who are initially affected are unaware of what has transpired until the illusion and barrier break down revealing the translocation and showing them where they have been transferred to. This element of surprise may lead those who are too arrogant to notice the truth to believe she has failed to initiate her bankai and therefore drop their guard.

After the translocation occurs there is a lock put in place that prevents others from using techniques for crossing between the worlds, like the garganta. This affects both sides and prevents anyone from trying to escape the conflict forcing a battle to be fought in a relatively secure location where the chances of innocent casualties has been removed.

Kanmon Nijuushin initially doubles the number of barriers that can be used as a direct advancement from Kanmon Wana but, also permits the use of far more advanced kidou barriers that look, move and sound like Chizu herself although these require far more energy to create and a maximum of five is capable. Their independent combative skills along with their enhanced resilience and increase in kidou strength are their key feature, although so long as Chizu doesn’t use any more kidou she can hide among the doppelgangers and confuse the enemy.

Due to the nature of the Kanmon Nijuushin each has half Chizu’s stats in Weapon, Melee and Movement. Also due to their construction each and every Kanmon Nijuushin is formed from a double cast kidou. Finally Chizu’s Reiatsu Control, Rounded to the nearest 10 and doubled, represents a Kanmon Nijusushin’s resilience to attacks that hit its physical body and unlike the Kanmon Wana, Kanmon Nijuushin can ‘heal’ itself in a fashion replenishing a tenth of Chizu’s Reiatsu Control with each post cycle.

Weaknesses

Yes creating the barrier and transporting those within to a different place prevents innocents getting involved it also prevents reinforcements from being able to assist in the battle meaning that whoever was in the area of effect is who was taken into the battle, regardless of skill, number or condition those with soul sensitivity and the will to fight in the battle will be taken along and the outcome will be decided by them and them alone. The other problem being what happens within the transferred space is completely separate from where they originally fought so when it finally shatters and releases its contents back into the space from whence they came, those fighting don’t know if they’re getting help from their victorious comrades or about to be overridden by additional enemy fighters.

Kanmon Nijuushin has the same disadvantages as Kanmon Wana where the barriers created are concerned although this is alleviated slightly due to the fact that two barriers of each level can now be created. The main problem with the more advanced barrier doppelgangers is that they require twice as long to summon and four times as much energy as the initial barriers do. Also each spell has to be chanted into Fuyutsuki and be stored there but, if she is attacked and uses the blade to defend herself the kidou within gets cancelled out, also if she is forced to use another kidou with the previous in the blade the one within the sword will be lost meaning that there can in theory be a lot more lost reiatsu in summoning a Kanmon Nijuushin than a Kanmon Wana. The last problem is that the summoned doppelganger has to split off from Chizu passing through Fuyutsuki to pick up the spells within the blade which leaves her completely defenceless for short periods of time and severely weakened for a period longer as she recovers from feeling a proportion of herself separate from her. Also although Kanmon Wana and Kanmon Nijuushin can be used in conjunction they are separate in terms of levels so with Doppelganger #1 out Chizu still needs to summon Barrier #1 and can’t skip to Barrier #3 because of Doppelganger #1 influence and they come from the same energy pool so even if the maximum number of barriers she can summon is 20 this is reduced by four for every doppelganger created so if she had 3 doppelgangers she can only summon 8 barriers.

The length of time it takes for Chizu to form a Kanmon Nijuushin varies dependant on it’ level. Nijuushin 1, 2 and 3 require two posts. One for the double cast chant Kidou and one for the energy separation where the Nijuushin pulls away from Chizu and passes through Fuyutsuki. Nijuushin 4 however takes longer. Requiring two posts for the kidou’s that make up the Nijuushin since generally such high class spells can’t be double cast and then one further for the separation. Nijuushin 5 requires a lot more work since the power making it up is so volatile. It requires four posts for the chanting of the kidou. The first for the first spell, the second to quell the energy within the blade, the third for the second chant and the fourth to combine the two spells. Finally the separation still only requires a single post.

During the separation phase, Chizu is unable to move or react to what is going on around her making her completely defenceless for the previous post cycle. She can however, store the kidou’s in Fuyutsuki for up to three posts before releasing them, accept for the Nijuushin 4 and 5 which need to be instantly released. Also after each separation it takes two posts to recover, except for Nijuushin 5 which it takes four posts to recover. During this time Chizu effectively has half her normal stats and can’t chant kidou limiting her to what she could cast silently at half her RC.
