Fuma

Fuma is Shirou Kamui's Zanpakutō.

In its unreleased form Fuma is merely a normal sized katana with a pentagram for its hilt. The hilt curves the wrong way, making it likely Kamui will overswing with the blade, although the added weight makes those swings faster and slightly harder.

Spirit Description

Fuma appears to Kamui as a tall, muscular high school student with a white angel wing over his left shoulder and a black angel wing over his right shoulder. Fuma of Earth, or the black winged Fuma constantly taunts Kamui telling him he is not even worth the half of his power that he has given Kamui. This is the form that appears to Kamui the most (because Kamui does not usually desire to kill). Fuma has informed Kamui many times that he does not play by any rules other than his own, such as “sealing” his power from Kamui even though Kamui is able to commutate with him. Fuma has told Kamui that his power is sealed within his own name.

The Fuma of Heaven is much more protective and reserved, informing Kamui that he must soon decide what he wants his power to be. Fuma generally likes to test Kamui's will to fight and desire to live, uttering that Kamui has lost his right to live for the power he seeks.

Shikai

Fuma

In either released form Fuma takes the form of an thin greatsword, with a double handle and a gold guard. (See pic above for released form). The blade itself appears to be an oversized longsword. The blade can be wielded in one hand; however, this significantly reduces Kamui’s control over his swings.

Shikai Abilities

Due to mirroring his master’s conflicting nature, Fuma has two releases hidden within Kamui’s name. In both forms Fuma is an esper type Zanpakutō granting Kamui the ability to channel his reiastu in blasts and protective barriers. If Kamui calls on his Zanpakutō to defend someone else’s life it will release as the Sword of Heaven, granting him exceptional defensive powers. If Kamui draws his Zanpakutō with the intent to take a life, or for a selfish reason, it will release as the Sword of Earth with offensive powers.

This twin starred Zanpakutō is a result of Kamui’s name, and his emotional state uncertainly.

If Kamui were to draw his sword for one reason and emotionally switch (such as drawing his Zanpakutō to save someone’s life then swearing to kill an opponent) Fuma will immediately break apart into feathers. Kamui will have to completely resummon the sword in its proper name or reach a proper state to return his sword. This is in part caused by Fuma’s seal on his allowed powers to Kamui. Switching swords however is basically a power that Kamui is not able to use often if ever.

Fuma of Heaven

Release Command: Protect the majesty of God!

Upon releasing his Zanpakutō Kamui’s reiastu forms a white angel wing over his left side. His Zanpakutō breaks away into white feathers that swirl around his hands forming a long two handed sword with a double handle. (see picture) Fuma gains exceptional defensive powers as well as a long reach.

By focusing his energy Kamui is able to create a circular one directional barrier capable of deflecting most attacks of an equal level of power (meaning Fumawould not be able to block an attack from a captain). The barrier forms as a two ringed circle with a reverse pentagram forming its center. The attack however uses a vast amount of reiastu and Kamui is unable to swing the sword while creating the field. To forge the defense Kamui needs to hold his sword with both hands and hold the sword blade parallel to Kamui's body.

Fuma’s second power is activated by plunging it into the ground. The barrier expands to form a perfect circular barrier, similar to the one that surrounds the Sereitei, although much, much less powerful. Kamui controls who is left inside the barrier and who is pushed outside as it is formed, although souls with an exceptional spiritual control could pass through the barrier as it forms. Kamui can use this then to push an enemy out and protect his allies from an environmental attack, such as a poison. Note that once the barrier is formed Kamui cannot allow anyone to enter or leave, only forceful entry is possible.

The kekki barrier however has two serious drawbacks. The concentration and rieastu required to maintain the field make it impossible for Kamui to preform Kidō while the barrier is active. Without his sword this leaves Kamui with only his physical skills and speed to fight an opponent.

The barrier can also be used to push allies out and trap Kamui and a opponent inside the barrier, allowing others to escape, although this will force Kamui to fight without his Zanpakutō. Used in this second way is basically a suicide defense for Kamui.

Fuma of Earth

Release Command: Hunt the majesty of God!

Upon releasing his Zanpakutō Kamui’s reiastu forms a balck angel wing over his right side. His Zanpakutō breaks away into black feathers that swirl around his hands forming a long two handed sword with a double handle, that is complete the same physically as his Sword of Heaven. (see picture)

The Sword of Earth grants Kamui offensive powers. By holding his sword above his head and swirling it clockwise Fuma is able to channel his reiastu to cause a depression and force the air forward in a shockwave. This is accomplished by “wrapping or swirling” his reiastu around his blade counterclockwise then reserving the flow to cause a void of air that pushes his reiastu forward into a blast. The blast’s size varies on the amount of reiastu used to form the attack as well as the time to create it.

Fuma’s second power is activated by the sword striking the ground. Reiastu will be transferred into the ground and push forward displacing ground (like a large animal digging through it). At a point chosen by Kamui the blast will split into 5 points, form a pentragram symbol in the ground, and erupt into the air. Kamui can control the distance before the explosion, however the beam cannot bend or turn or go through a wall (Kamui has to be able to physically see the point he has chosen for the explosion). Anyone with any level of spiritual pressure will be able to detect the blast in the ground. The only point that would require ANY concentration to detect would be the one second between the beam splitting and erupting.

Kamui has to leave the tip of his blade in the ground for the attack, and swing the blade up at the time he wants to erupt the blast.

Bankai

Shinken Fuma (Holy Sword Fuma)

Shinken Fuma

Ignore the Earth, not part of the Bankai

As the dust settles Kamui appears, with two massive wings, one white over his right shoulder, representing his former Sword of Heaven. His black wing appears to represent his Sword of Earth. A red veil cape wraps around his body, almost appearing to have endless length. The Sword of Earth appears the same as before. The keen eye will notice both the veil and the sword are enveloped in dense reiastu, swirling around each…appearing as if the blade and veil are constantly being broken apart and rebuilt, as if each were both physical matter and energy.

Bankai Abilities

Shinken Fuma amplifies Kamui’s base powers of aether. The blades bend the power of physics and states of nature, seemingly letting the swords exist as matter and energy. Kamui’s ability to manipulate those powers increased based on the extra reiastu channeling through his wings, as well as improved focus.

Sword of Heaven

The sword of Heaven in its base state is actually the red veil. It stays in a light malleable form as wielding two Fumas, while not necessarily hard, for a single sword specialist such as Kamui, is not required that often. That being said, the veil is capable of turning into a second Fuma, identical to the Sword of Earth or the Sword of Heaven in the Shikai state. The veil itself can move through the air via Kamui's mind, although normally Kamui will use his right hand to control it.

The Sword of Heaven can break from either of its physical forms down into energy, rearranging itself into a shield that while normally takes the form a circle with a double pentagram inside it covering one arc of Kamui. The Tentou Ryuuko Baria Sekisho [Heaven Dragon’s Barrier Shield] however can take on a variety of shapes and sizes, the second most notable form being a half arc around Kamui. The smaller the shield that is formed, the stronger and the denser the barrier becomes. If broken from the sword form of if the veil is around Kamui the barrier will be formed around projected from one of Kamui’s hands. If the veil is “away” from Kamui the energy will quickly return to allow him to form the barrier. While in his sword form Kamui can make a quick barrier from the tip of the blade or in the same fashion as the shikai, however, this will reduce the barrier’s strength by half.

The Sword of Heaven retains its second ability that if plunged into the ground that it will form a barrier field with about a quarter-mile diameter. Only those that Kamui desires in when the barrier is formed will be left in the barrier and others pushed out. In this incarnation, Kamui is still unable to use the Sword of Heaven’s powers or kidō inside the barrier, but still has access to the sword of Earth’s powers. Even if the sword is broken Kamui can simply reform the sword of veil by consuming a moderate amount of reiastu.

Sword of Earth

The Sword of Earth appears much as it did in the Shikai form; however the reiastu surrounding the blade has increased significantly. A simple swing of the blade can create a wave of energy like a regular water wave, composing pure focused reiastu along with being a mass of particles within it as well. The Tenrai Ryuko Furea Senkou [Divine Dragon’s Flash Flare] can be doubled in power if when forming the wave the Fuma of Earth is broken down into the wave as well. This also allows the wave to be manipulated by Kamui to be bent with his hands. Note that the wave can still basically only be used once (meaning it could not be deflected, curved up, and then brought down for a second shot). The attack in both forms can be condensed from the size of a large wave to a focused beam, again, smaller the beam/wave, stronger on average it becomes. Also, forming a larger wave will use up significantly more reiastu then just firing a simple wave on the size of the Shikai. Even if the sword is broken Kamui can simply reform the sword of veil by consuming a moderate amount of reiastu.

Strengths

So long as matter exists and Kamui has reiastu the blades can be reconstituted.

The base density of the blades makes blocking them a challenging task, as even though they are long blades they hit with the cutting and physical force of a Buster Sword.

Weaknesses

Neither power can be used simultaneously [at least until Bankai is perfected]

Neither power can be used until the sword is reformed if it had been shattered for an technique

Rebuilding the swords, while taking a short amount of time, does consume a fair amount of reiastu (think Piccolo regrowing limbs)
