Fukumaden (Abode of Demons, Pandemonium) is Yashamaru's Zanpakutō.

As Fukumaden is always released, the original, unreleased form has never been seen by anyone else but Yashamaru. It used to be a regular katana-sword, but after it was released the first time, Fukumaden has refused to go back to that form and has since stayed in shikai-form.

Spirit Description

Fukumaden is a large, imposing figure, even moreso than Yashamaru. Standing at solid 10 feet, Fukumaden is mostly covered with ragged, dark cloth with some tigerskin-like cloth visible here and there. Though Fukumaden's torso is more or less obscured by the cloth, the muscular arms and legs are visible: the skincolor is deep red, and both his fingers and his toes have white claws for nails.

On both his arms and his ankles, Fukumaden has black, metal braces with a little bit of broken off chain attached to each. These shackles correspond with Yashamaru's black limiters, and if Yashamaru takes hers off, the shackles on Fukumaden disappear as well. Undearneath the braces on his arms, one can see fire flickering at the edges of the metal limiters: once they're removed, the fires flare fully into white-hot cuffs, covering most of Fukumaden's wrists and forearms.

As for Fukumaden's face, it's mostly obscured by a shiny, metallic half-mask mouthguard, similar to those worn by the samurai of old. It has gruesome looking curved fangs on it, and where there should be a mouth hole, there is instead a grid of holes, acting as a sort of gas mask. Why it's there in the first place is unknown. Fukumaden's eyes are glowing yellow, and it's impossible to try and find a pupil, or sclera for that matter: the eyes are just solid, glowing yellow.

Fukumaden's hair, or what little of it can be seen from under his hood, is black, slightly curly and messy, not to mention somewhat short. On Fukumaden's back, there's a large, tan-colored bottle gourd with red tassles and a red rope so it could be carried. The gourd is always plugged, and it's unknown what is inside, if there is anything at all.

Release Command: Hanatsu, moeru! Fukumaden! (Fire and burn! Fukumaden!)

Fukumaden's released form is that of a large, almost 6 feet 5 (2 meters) kanabo, a large iron club. The handle, about 50 cm long (19.6 inches or so), is wrapped with white gauze and there's a ring at the very end so Yashamaru can twirl the weapon. The actual part of the club used for hitting is round with numerous spikes on it in five rows, almost 4 inches apart throughout the length of about 4.5 feet. The spikes, though relatively small in size, are sharp, and the metal itself is dark, almost black.

Shikai Abilities

Fukumaden is a constant release fire-type zanpakutō. When Yashamaru spits sake on the weapon, it is engulfed in flames that don't harm Yashamaru, but deal a good deal of extra damage when it comes in contact with anything else. Though a flaming, 200-pound, spiked iron club is plenty intimidating as it is, Fukumaden can also disperse so called "Fire Seeds", small, floating orbs of fire that have no fixed trajectory, nor does Yashamaru have any control over them. The orbs just float around her like dandelion seeds, and new fluffs are created every time Fukumaden is swung. These "seeds" don't hurt Yashamaru, but her opponents and surroundings, sometimes even allies, are not quite as fortunate. Best case scenario, the fighting "arena" is so full of the fireorbs that the opponent has a hard time moving without getting burned or catching fire.

Flames that are ignited by Fukumaden are controlled by Yashamaru, to a certain extent. The fires don't burn her and she can technically put them out by just thinking so, but it requires concentration and some reiatsu-manipulation, so usually Yashamaru tends to "wait it out" or isolate the burning area so the fire doesn't burn something important. Also, the further the fires spread from where Yashamaru is, the harder it is to control them: best case scenario, the flames putter out with nothing to ignite. Worst case scenario, it becomes a wild fire.

Strengths

Size, weight and destructive capabilities of the physical weapon, fire as an element and fire seeds.

Weaknesses

Large size, inability to seal the zanpakutō, unpredictability of the element and some control-issues. Requires a spit of sake to ignite.
