Appearance

Ellis is another thin as a rail nerdy college student, and that's more-or-less all you really need to know about him; so why not stop there? Well, I suppose there is a bit more to it than that...

Ellis is a half-Japanese, half-Caucasian combination, and in terms of build and skin color, it shows. Ellis's body has the faint memory of a swimmer's build; it was once there, but has partially faded away with time and lack of exercise. Some of the muscle is still there, but otherwise he's just a skinny kid who's quick on his feet. Ellis has the complexion of a Japanese kid, too, with a slightly yellowed milk color to it, though the color has paled recently, due to the large amount of work done inside, though it has been (mostly) acne-free.

Ellis has wide, green eyes from his father's side and his nose is thin and small, though not abnormally so. Thin-rimmed, rectangular glasses hang from his ears and serve to correct some minor foresightedness. Ellis has somewhat boyish features with are slightly faded, though this time due to age. Due to this, Ellis has a very circular head, and a pair of cheeks that tend to redden very quickly.

Ellis has four key items that he has with him at all times. The first being his glasses, which were already covered, and the second being his goggles. A pair of slightly modified silver Aviator goggles hang at Ellis's neck, and Ellis tends to replace his glasses with these in the heat of battle; the lenses are modified in order to serve the same purpose as his glasses, and he's currently working on making them have night vision-like capabilities.

The third is his white labcoat, which he considers to be his own "Utility Belt". It has several pockets and secret compartments lined in it, which he uses to keep things like work or information. He usually has a couple notebooks lined in it, a switchblade and some bandages, just in case. The final item is his beat-up, brown messenger bag, which he uses to keep some of his larger equipment and his laptop.

In terms of clothing, Ellis dresses pretty regularly other than his white lab coat. He wears a variety of t-shirts, usually referencing some sort of video game, comic book or anime series. For pants, Ellis always wears standard pair of loose blue jeans, usually beaten up due to hollow confrontations, and a pair of beaten-up gray Converse sneakers.

Personality

You know those people who ramble on about conspiracy theories involving 9/11 and the Illuminati? Who love ghost stories and go out to graveyards at night, jumping at every tiny noise and turning around corners, hoping that, for a fleeting moment, they might just see a wisp of white smoke or an orb? Who say they know someone who was abducted by a UFO and has a t-shirt that says "I want to believe"? Yeah, Ellis is basically an Ascended Fanboy version of that.

Ellis is a computer programmer that graduated from the Massachusetts Instutute of Technology a year early, through hard work and a touch of luck. Ellis's love of computers is at the same rank of his love of the paranormal, which is rather ironic considering the contrasting ideas within those subjects. Ellis moved to Okumichi City, being promised a good salary and the best possible entry-level job. While the salary was fine, Ellis was given a bait and switch with the job, and he was given the worst kind of programming work and little power within the company. Having moved across the world just for this job, it wasn't as if he had any other choice, and so Ellis is given a feeling of little self-worth every day after he finishes up his work.

This lack of self esteem in the real world has lead to Ellis being rather power-hungry in the Spirit world, likely due to the fact that Ellis wishes to succeed in some part of his life. The whole having power in the Spiritual realm hasn't quite worked out yet, though, as his abilities have yet to materialze. Ellis's so-called training regiment has brought him to become some sort of idiotic thrill-seeker, often enjoying the rush of a flirtation with death. Ellis's search for information about the realm of the dead shows his curious nature; he likes to know how things work, how the world ticks and this is why he's decided to compile the Chronicle; for those who're like him and wish to know how this world works once they've entered it.

Ellis is a nice guy, tending to be relatively laid-back, and is seen as a pushover by some. His interest in the paranormal has brought him to other nerdy things, like video games, comic books and anime. Ellis has gone on record as saying his favorite movie is Ghostbusters and he's seen it over forty times. It's probably true, too, seeing as he constantly references it.

History

Even from a young age, Ellis loved things that he couldn't see, and dreamed about meeting aliens and catching ghosts with Proton Packs. He went to school in New York City, and grew up in a upper-middle class family with his father being a relatively successful businessman and his mother being a housewife. Despite not living in Japan until he was twenty one, Ellis knew a good amount about their culture, and learned both English and Japanese when he was a child.

Ellis began pursuing computer science when he was six, and his father bought their first "modern" computer (their previous one being an old Macintosh). Immediately, Ellis began learning all he could about computers, and his parents encouraged this interest.

At the age of eighteen, Ellis graduated high school with excellent marks and was accepted into MIT, and roughly a month after he entered Boston, Ellis's spiritual abilities began to manifest as he ended his adolescence. At the age of nineteen, Ellis's abilities were to a point where he could see spirits, but there wasn't a single day where Ellis could see hollows in Boston, but still, the experience of seeing ghosts was incredibly interesting and exciting for Evert, but he could never really learn that much about them; he simply assumed that the world of spirits was like it was on television.

Three years later, Ellis was out of Boston and moved to Okumichi City, where he was promised a job that he wasn't given. Interestingly enough, Ellis's entry into Okumichi City made his abilities a much quicker rate of growth, and this is where Ellis found out about Hollows, and eventually Shinigami. This was when Ellis realized that the world of the dead was nothing like he had imagined it to be, and it was ultimately a world he knew nothing about. Ellis had decided his first goal in this brave new world; to figure out the world around him, find out everything and become something of a Chronicler. Obviously, this wasn't something that could be put up on his blog, so Ellis decided to create a Chronicle that could be passed down or used by like-minded people who had just entered the same world.

Ellis soon developed a taste for power when he realized his own weaknesses and limitations; even in this new world, he was simply a weakling compared to the Shinigami and Hollows, and so, Ellis decided to try and build some sort of strength and speed, and learn more about surviving in a confrontation with a hollow. Ellis began a "training regiment" which was rather simple; in the end it consisted of Ellis trying to build up his strength through exercise and then trying to survive a scuffle, believing ultimately that what won't kill him will make him stronger; well, that hasn't failed yet, right?

And now here we are, three months after moving into Okumichi City and one month after Ellis began his so-called "training regiment". What will be the next step? What kind of adventures will Ellis have? Well, tune in for next episode! Same bat-time, same bat-channel!

Combat

Strengths

Ellis is rather quick on his feet and light, allowing for him to run away and dodge attacks rather quickly, along with being able to do some rather nifty aerobic stunts in the heat of battle. Ellis is also rather quick-thinking and tactical, being able to formulate strategies rather quickly.

Weaknesses

Ellis is nothing but a weakling without any sort of spiritual abilities, and upon being disarmed, Ellis can be taken down rather quickly. Ellis can only take two or three big hits without being taken down or even killed, and his punches and kicks are really nothing special.
