Appearance

Eleanor appears as a short young woman with a wide grin and all the energy of a hyperactive child. Her eyes are ice blue, providing a sharp contrast to her shortly clipped red hair. Not having interacted heavily with other arrancar, she does not where the traditional white outfit, instead using more voluminous robes that look like they belong in some arcane ceremony. Her zanpacto is worn on her left side and bears a very fancy sheath of blue and gold. The remains of her mask are on the side of her bangs, almost hidden under her hair. Her hollow hole is just above her breasts, though this is usually at least partially obscured by her robes. More unusually, distinctive silver lines decorate much of her skin, which to anyone with even a passing knowledge of medicine clearly follow where her veins would be (less so on the upper face though). When she bleeds, silver is blended in with it. She's managed to adapt her linguistic ability to modern times, though her original accent still bleeds through.

Personality

For a horrifying, cannibalistic amalgamation of stolen souls, Eleanor is a surprisingly pleasant person. True, her opinions tend to be unusual and she seems slightly out of synch with the norm (or not so slightly. She applies the spiritual aspects of the alchemy she knew in life to her current state, believing that she is concentrating and improving each soul that becomes a part of her). Seemingly ditzy, she is actually reasonably astute (and much better at working with objects than people) and, if she's a bit out of date, she's working on fixing that. She's fond of mysteries and secrets, and enjoys knowing things other people don't (although her outgoing nature occasionally means she'll end up telling people anyway).

Eleanor believes in improvement. Surroundings, beliefs, personal power, it doesn't really matter when you get down to it. Stagnation is the ultimate evil, so it's important to keep moving forward no matter what. She's quick to point out suggestions to others, in a helpful and non-condescending way, even enemies. While offered with the best of intentions, this tends to be rather aggravating. Beyond that, she rarely spends idle moments. At worst, she'll sit and ponder recent events, but for the most part she'd prefer being out and about as much as possible. She's rather annoyed that most humans can't interact with her (social issues with talking to someone with a gaping chest hole notwithstanding), but as she can't do anything about that, she concentrates on working with any spiritually aware beings she can find, friend or enemy to arrancar.

Eleanor doesn't mind fights. She rightly believes that one of the swiftest ways to improve is through violent excursion (not that fighting should be the only way one gets better of course. Knowledge is critical). She has a bad habit of mixing in more conversation then needed and sometimes outright forgetting she IS trying to keep someone from maiming/killing her. She prefers mid-range combat, using her abilities to keep enemies out of direct melee range but not so far away that she has a hard time aiming (or talking).

History

Eleanor was born in London several centuries ago. Her family, fortunately for her, was quite wealthy due to a bit of noble blood. She lived a comfortable life and received excellent education for the time, learning to read and write from her brother who was entering the priesthood. Sadly, while definitively a people person, Eleanor had too much energy and not enough self-control to interact properly with high society. Her parents often bemoaned any marriage prospects for their daughter (although Eleanor's older brother and younger sister at least made up for that). It was, ironically, this unusual passion that brought the attention of a young noble of considerably higher status, one Thomas Lockwood. An eccentric man, he appreciated the relaxed, friendly attitude that Eleanor provided and, to just about everyone's surprise, they began a serious courtship that ended in a very happy marriage some years later.

One of Thomas' most distinctive aspects was his fascination with alchemy, a subject he introduced to Eleanor who, like him, took a shine to it. Indeed, their collaboration lead to many interesting dissertations (though for obvious reasons the young lady left her name off of it). The experiments were not always safe of course (Eleanor believes that the current state of her veins comes from mercury ingestion from her life. This did not at all contribute to longevity that she'd been aiming for). Thomas, like so many others, was very interested in completing the legendary work of forging the Philosopher's Stone. Serving as apprentice, then assistant, Eleanor encouraged him as much as she could to carry on in the face of failure and danger (and not a few apparent steps in the right direction). It was unfortunate that the young woman did not get the chance to see where their research took them, as her willingness to experiment with unusual chemical concoctions (sometimes literally consumed) took a heavy toll on her body. She eventually died at the age of 26 due to mercury poisoning.

Eleanor woke as most plusses do: thoroughly confused and with a chain reaching out from the chest. While Eleanor was fortunate enough not to receive any attention from hollows, neither was she rescued from the eventual devolution of her chain until, much later, it eroded entirely and she became a hollow herself. She recovered her sentience quickly, along with new powers well beyond what she was aware could exist. It would have been impressive, if not for the horrific hunger that accompanied her at all times. Eleanor consumed countless spirits to keep the sensation down, reasoning that incorporating them into her form was somehow refining them all into a single, more potent spirit. Not thinking of the much more obvious fact that she was simply consuming others' lives for the sake of her own, she believed that if she could unify enough spirits within her form, she could transcend the state into some other, more perfect form (a common theme within her alchemical research. Given the nature of her powers, she assumed that it was an alchemic operation she was undergoing, rather than the fact that spiritual powers tend to develop in theme with their weilders). As time went on, she eventually consumed enough to evolve into a Gillian, although the frenzy very nearly lost her control over the body and the potential for continued ascendance. Her transformation into adjuchas signalled the nearing of her final work. By this stage she had encountered many hollows and they spoke of a being called a Vaste Lorde. Human sized, with unbelievable power. Eleanor took this as further evidence of her “distillation” theory, that continued refinement concentrated the hollow into a more potent and perfect form. Eleanor herself was never able to make it to that final level however, as a portion of her body was consumed in battle. Her evolution stopped, she lapsed into a long slumber at that point. Not a natural sleep, her reiatsu collapsed in upon itself rapidly and forced her to remain in mostly dreamless unconsciousness for many, many years.

Eventually however, it ended. Eleanor woke up, still an adjuchas but unstable now that she was active once more. Unwilling to allow years worth of improvement to slip away, she tried to find another way to solidify her ability. She found the answer, indirectly, through the first arrancar she ever met. A being who had torn off his mask and somehow supplemented its natural energy with that of another being, Eleanor believed that this might very well be the answer she was looking for and promptly shattered her mask. The process worked, more or less. True, it did distill her power in the process and lock out her supernatural abilities, but as she gains strength, she feels them stirring more and more. Better yet, they seemed to have been refined much as her body was (the reduction of the hunger was also a welcome aspect). Now properly stabilized and free to continue with her experimentation, Eleanor couldn't be happier.

Given her prolonged sleep state and low level of contact outside other hollows before that, the newly formed arrancar finds herself drawn to understand the source of the power she stabilized herself with: shinigami. She knows only bits and pieces, but she gathers that they oppose hollows (foey. Makes them harder to talk to), send souls some place called Soul Society, didn't have the hunger hollows have, and had spiffy black outfits and magic swords. Hoping to get a better idea, Eleanor currently tries to learn more about them through interviews that have an annoying habit of devolving into fights (but people talk lots in fights anyway, so it's not a total waste).

Combat

Strengths

Eleanor is durable. Her body can take strong blows exceptionally well and ignore weaker ones entirely. She also seems to have boundless reserves of stamina, rarely running out of steam save in the most intense exertions. Finally, her reiatsu control is very impressive.

Weaknesses

Eleanor's reflexes are somewhat shot, meaning that she reacts more slowly to oncoming attacks than normal for her speed. Further, her damaged nervous system occasionally causes spasms when attempting to swing a weapon, meaning that her attacks with her zanpacto occasionally go wildly off. Also, she is easily distracted in battle (by conversations, feints etc.) and is readily caught off guard.
