Appearance
Eiishima stands a lanky 6ft2” tall. His build is lean and sinewy, his muscles not massive, but tight, steely and densely compact.
He sports John Lennon/Vash the Stampede style small circular red tinted spectacles, although they don’t have legs and appear to just hover on the bridge of his nose, even when he’s moving erratically at speed. His eyes, when one catches a glimpse of them behind the glasses, are a light shade of violet. Currently, he has very short cut brown hair.
He wears strips of bandages around his hands and forearms, as these are the parts of him that tend to be most scarred up from training.
He doesn’t wear tabi socks or the traditional sandals but wears Japanese style wooden clogs, of the style prominent in Kabuki. His shihakusho is slightly modified but not heavily. He wears the sleeveless variant, both his gi and his kimono are cut at the shoulders. His kimono jacket has a hood/cowl which he normally wears up. His Obi sash is white.
Personality
Eishima is hard working and generally a pretty serious person. This is mainly due to working in a tannery which had long hard hours and harsh punishments for disobedience for all of his youth. He is rarely seen smiling, and has a somewhat lacking sense of humour, nine out of ten jokes will pass straight over his head, and as a result of this has become a bit of a butt for many jokes in his social circle within the division. It cannot be said that he doesn’t make the effort though, although attempts at jokes normally are met with a pat on the back and “don’t worry mate, we know what you meant” smile from his friends.
He is however dedicated and willing to carry out orders to the letter. There is no push or shove for him. If his superiors order it, then it will be done. In this respect his moral code is quite archaic. Should he fail to carry out orders he punishes himself with (even more) extra heavy duty/intense training. He is extremely faithful to his captain and considers honour in a way the samurai of old would.
He seems to be constantly training, particularly physical rigorous training as well as studying techniques and skills. He likes to play devil’s advocate a lot, if he finds an effective technique he will search for ways to counter it. He is generally a quiet individual, and likes to contemplate things before making a move or venturing his own thoughts on a subject. He believes heavily in honour as well as living a just and virtuous life, helping those in need when he can.
History
He found himself a young waistrel in Rukongai, running around the streets without a family. He formed a gang of kids but at a young age they were soon “adopted” by the near slave-driving master of the local tannery. Hard, stinking, pig-filled-gore days were followed by short uncomfortable restless nights. The smallest of misdemeanours was met with the harshest of punishments.
He served in this hellhole in the outer rim of rukongai for most of his life as a youth. He used to dream that the men in black coats would come and whisk him away to the marbled palace far in the distance. But any time they were glimpsed it was normally a child they were whisking away. By the time he came to be a young adult he had pretty much given up all hope that they would ever come to him. However, around the age of 15, he began to experience a feeling he had never experienced before. He tried all sorts of things to satiate his craving but he could not placate this… this… hunger. It was not soon after that that the black garbed figures from the ivory towers visited the Tannery and, without even so much as a word, took him from his life of slavery. He was overjoyed, yet anxious at the same time. He knew not what secrets were held beyond the ivory walls.
He entered the shinigami academy and, through the virtues instilled in him from his rough and harsh upbringing, he worked hard and diligently, putting in 110% wherever it was required. He was quiet, respectful and honourable, although his teachers occasionally chastised him for his detachment; sometimes emotions are valuable in pumping oneself up for a fight. He would spend nights training with suburito (heavy wooden bokken designed to build up strength) and training his hakuda on the wooden dummies, at times persisting in his kata even when his fists were bloody and bruised and his shins feeling at breaking point. However he did not complain. He worked hard in all four areas, houhou, hakuda, zanjutsu and kidō. He showed much promise in the first three, however his kidō was behind par with the rest.
He graduated in the top ranks of his class, thanks primarily to his unforgiving work ethic, yet he remained humble, awaiting assignment and further orders. He was assigned to the Ninth due to his meticulous attention to detail and devotion to orders.
