Appearance
Being the child of a Caucasian man and a Japanese woman, Daisuke possesses traits from both worlds, bearing his father's light skin mixed with his mother's Eastern roots. He is neither merely average nor extraordinary in appearance, a blessing for which he is quite grateful, though he has been complimented on more than one occasion. Even so, Daisuke is hardly vain in even the slightest meaning of the word. To him, physical attractiveness are simply a bonus, and that intelligence and personality are far more important in the long run.
Personality
With a mood that seems to constantly shift on a dime, though with it more or less being somewhat friendly towards others, Daisuke is an individual who can feel at ease while either talking with a dear friend, or spending time alone by a fireplace, reading a novel. Preferring to listen rather than talking, Daisuke can get along with just about anybody on any sort of level due to his understanding and thoughtful nature; though, on the off-chance that someone peaks his interest enough to cause him to start speaking, there is no limit to how much this young man can talk. He normally keeps to himself and dedicates himself to the task at hand, which usually results in his losing sleep over long, arduous projects. He prefers to be left alone should he become engrossed in a novel and despises anyone who tries to tear him away from his reading. He has also been known to enter random bouts of depression that may or may not affect his overall daily performance.
Daisuke likes to perceive himself as something of an artist and is not particularly fond of being forced into combat, though he otherwise has not the slightest problem fighting if he finds the "opponent" irritating or sees him as an obstacle. If given the choice, he would say on the matter, "I am an artist, a river of eternally flowing thoughts and creative alternatives, not a damn monkey with a stick." Yet despite his "artistic" views, Daisuke is not vain of either his looks or his intelligence. He does not consider himself to be more intelligent or even more creative than the next person, and he is more than willing to help someone out of sheer kindness. Very few people have ever witnessed Daisuke truly angry, or even enter a fit of rage, but it is wise to consider that even the calmest of people may become raging volcanoes if provoked.
History
The circumstances surrounding Daisuke Nomura's birth was a subject that he spoke of quite rarely, when he lived on Earth. The years he spent with his mother were memorable, to say the least, despite the fact that he remembers very little that correlates with his previous life. What can be said, however, was that his father left his mother approximately two years after Daisuke was born and that he was raised mainly by she and her family in Shinjuku.
Young Daisuke's childhhod years were filled with endless Japanese traditions and 60's music, especially the Beatles. It was also during this time that Daisuke discovered his love for books and reading in general, and he swore that he would one day become a famous novelist. All throughout his early and late teenage years Daisuke worked to improve his writing style, vigorously inching his way towards his life's dream. It was shortly after his twentieth birthday that he finally completed the novel on which he had spent so many years devising and rewriting. He sent in the manuscript to dozens of publishers and was overwhelmed when nearly half of them expressed their interests in publishing the story. Then, a few months later, on the night before his book was to hit bookshelves all over Japan, Daisuke encountered a young woman who was being attacked by an armed mugger. Selflessly he flung himself at the assailant, managing to break the man’s arm and providing the woman a chance to escape, but as he attempted to wrestle the gun from the mugger’s other hand, the pistol went off unexpectedly and shot Daisuke straight through the abdomen. The mugger took off down the street in a hurry, leaving Daisuke to die in a pool of his own blood on the side of the street.
When Daisuke awoke in Rukongai, he could not remember a single thing - about his former life, himself, anything at all. He wandered the streets of Rukongai and spent his time looking for food and drink, as well as simply finding a job with which to pay for said necessities. The passage of time was a new concept to him, and as time slowly passed, only a shred of memory made its way back into his mind. Finally understanding who he was, he set forth to forge a new life in this strange place. He was hired by a local bookseller who helped Daisuke rediscover his love for books, though it is unclear just how long Daisuke continued to work there.
One day the bookseller encouraged Daisuke to earn a new living somewhere else, telling him about the academy in the Seireitei where it might be possible for him to begin anew once more. So he packed up his stuff and entered the academy as soon as positions were open. The training was quite difficult, the classes seemingly endless at times, and the amount of work that Daisuke had to endure was unlike anything he had ever faced before. But there was a tiny memory in the back of his mind, something that was truly little more than a mere whisper, yet it reminded him of a time when he had spent years working towards something that had meant everything to him. The pain, the hurt, the tears… All of the hard work that he had overcome while he was alive came rushing back to him and gave him the inspiration and motivation to keep pressing forward. Before too long, he was able to pass the academy’s final exam, and he was assigned to the Gotei 13’s Fifth Division.
Combat
Strengths
Tracing back to his life as a human, Daisuke has shown remarkable resilience and strength of will when he commits himself to something. In battle he never turns his back on the enemy and will continue to push forward until he is knocked down for good. He is also quite creative and resourceful and will not hesitate to improvise should things start getting hairy.
Weaknesses
Despite possessing amazing willpower at the best of times, Daisuke, like any creative or imaginative person, occasionally suffers major depression when things are not working out well. This depression can hamper his abilities both outside and inside of battle. Also, as stated before, Daisuke prefers to avoid combat unless it is unavoidable, or if the person is simply irritating the hell out of him. He has average strength, but in a one-on-one duel against someone who trains specifically in swordsmanship, the odds are most definitely not in his favor.
