Appearance

Caliban stands around average height, and would be a wholly unremarkable Arrancar accept for a few odd features, the most notable of which is his choice of dress. Much like he did while he was a Hollow, Caliban wears the uniform of a shinigami, instead of the traditional Arrancar uniform. Another major feature is that he still wears a replica of the mask he wore as a hollow. Under his mask, which he almost never takes off, Caliban has relatively long red hair, and gray eyes. The real remains of his mask is a thin ring around his left eye. Caliban’s rank as an Arrancar is displayed as a simple IΛ (4 in original Roman numerals, an ‘I,’ followed by an upside down ‘V’) just above his elbow on his left arm.

Caliban carries two katana; one is of average length and a normal sheath, and otherwise unremarkable. The other one is a wakizashi fitted with a Katana length handle and rests in a Katana length sheath. It allows Caliban to draw and strike with it quicker than he could with a Katana.

Personality

Even though Caliban is now one of the elite arrancar, he still views himself more of an elite hollow rather than an arrancar. He still has the mentality of a spymaster, using his ‘pawns’ or ‘drones’ as spies, assassins, and ever increasingly, soldiers.

History

The hollow that would on day be called Caliban was born in the capital of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century CE. He was a member of a family of tomb raiders. Caliban led a fairly successful career in grave robbing. All was well until one day he made his most daring raid, only a year after his death; Caliban attempted a raid on the grave of the late Emperor Valerian I. Caliban traveled deep into the Persian Empire, and located the ashes of the Emperor, but before he could recover them he was slain by the Persian guards. Once dead Caliban found himself part of a world that he never even knew existed. It didn’t take long for Caliban to become a hollow; he changed in only a week.

The mindless, but still cunning, hollow consumed enough to have his intelligence restored. It was after his reawakening that Caliban discovered that he had the power to spread a ‘infection’ that allows him to take control of lesser, and influence ones of equal, and to a lesser extent grater, power. Twelve of them gained powers similar to Caliban; he called them the Porción Pocos (the serving few). Caliban along with the Porción Pocos slowly developed a network of spies, a small army. Caliban quickly grew in power, attaining Vasto Lorde after only single century. During the Second Hollow War Caliban led a large group of hollows into battle. Caliban, his Porción Pocos, and his squad were decimated.

The broken and battered Caliban crawled back to Hueco Mundo to die. The once great Vasto Lorde became easy prey for weak hollows. After many hollows took a bite out of him he de-evolved, falling all the way back to a weak hollow just a step in power above the mindless hordes of Hueco Mundo. Regaining a drive to live, the former Vasto Lorde changed his name to Caliban and slowly began to rebuild his network of spies. Caliban refused to take part in the plot of the late Arrancar Queen Elmira. After her death he reemerged believing that the surviving arrancar are the strongest and most cunning, and the most likely to use his unique skills to the fullest.

Combat

Strengths

  • Reiatsu manipulation: Caliban can alter his Reiatsu to make it seem like a hollow, or Arrancar.
  • Spy network: Because of Caliban’s network of spies, very few major events escape his notice.

Weaknesses

  • Weak: Caliban is physically weak, No stronger than a strong human.
  • Over confident: Caliban completely believes that his network is fool proof and cannot relay false information. Any times it is proven wrong he dismisses it as an isolated incident or a fault in interpretation.
  • Just another drone: Caliban controls his body much like he would with a Drone. Meaning if a Drone is putting up a lot of resistance Caliban might let control of his body laps, leaving his self open to attack. An attack that somehow manages to jam the network could leave Caliban’s body in a Vegetable-like state.
