Appearance
Eight feet tall from hoof to head, nine to horn, and four feet wide at the shoulders, Boros is an anthropomorphic bull spirit, often likened to a minotaur by those spirits who have knowledge of Greek mythology. His uniform, custom made to fit his massive bulk, is a set of black robes, very much like the garb the citizens expect the members of the Second Division to wear, though lacking sleeves. On his head he wears a dark steel helm, and he carries his great axe on his back. Boros seems to personify the idea of overwhelming force, towering over all others in Seireitei. His bulk is made up of muscle, and his light brown hide is heavily tattooed with black tribal markings.
Personality
Boros is a peaceful spirit, at one with his surroundings. He enjoys his duties as the groundskeeper for the Second Division, dutifully caring for the great forest where the shinigami train their secretive skills. His patience in caring for the vegetation that is often damaged by the trainees is the major reason why he was assigned to the Division, despite being as subtle as a battering ram. Having a deep seated respect for nature, Boros is a gentle creature, careful in applying his strength in just the right manner to avoid causing undue damage.
Despite his size and strength, Boros does not seek out fights. He enjoys staying out of sight and caring for the various gardens and parks throughout Seireitei, and has managed to avoid the attention of other shinigami, especially the over-zealous members of the 11th Division who would probably love to have a giant minotaur as a sparring partner. It's not that fights are without their uses, it's just they tend to damage the landscape.
History
No one is quite sure where Boros comes from. All that is known is that around two hundred years ago he emerged from the wilderness of Soul Society, terrifying many of the settlers who lived in the area. Shinigami were immediately sent to deal with the strange beast, though upon encountering the spirit, they realized his reiatsu was not that of a Hollow, and that he appeared to bear no ill intent, sitting by a river and seeming content to watch the grass grow.
Following a cautious greeting, Boros explained he was a wanderer, with no real purpose than to walk across the land and grow closer to the land that bore him. The shinigami reported this strange spirit to the Captains, who after a lengthy debate so no real reason to deny Boros a chance to live amongst them. The bull spirit accepted their offer, curious as to the civilization he had stumbled across during his travels. He spent seventy-five years in Rukongai, wandering freely from district to district, always working tirelessly to improve the parks and gardens he encountered. He saw the opulance of the first district and the squalor of the fiftieth. He favored the rougher districts which tended to be require his skills more often, creating places of relative peace in the violent areas, intimidating those who would harm nature to stay away.
Often he would be challenged to fights by drunken citizens or the occasional shinigami. Though not exactly a skilled fighter, Boros often accepted such challenges, seeing it as a way of learning more about the society which had adopted him. During one of these fights the idea of joining the Academy was proposed to him, a notion he had not entertained beforehand due to having no idea what the Academy was. Once the way a spirit became a shinigami was explained to him, he agreed to join and learn the ways of the black robes. It would be fifty years before he finally graduated, noted for his high combat skill when fighting in wilderness (manipulating the elements to attack and defend), his protectiveness towards nature, and his unique manner in accessing kidō powers – using tribal rituals which required ingredients harvested from various plants. Boros' ability to actually fight was barely adequate, the giant minotaur lacking the finesse to really be an effective warrior, and his axe was more often used to chop wood than training dummies. However, when required to fight, Boros proved himself a capable wrecking machine.
The patience he demonstrated in caring for plants is the main reason why he was assigned to the Second Division as a groundskeeper, despite his complete lack of subtlety or stealth. Yet his diligent care of the forest surrounding the Second Division headquarters has made him a respected member of the Division, and many members enjoy the gentle giant's company, and have even pointed out that he fits perfectly into the operations of the Second Division, even when in urbanized areas. After all, a distraction is always welcome when sneaking, and what could be a better distraction than an 9' tall, 800 lb minotaur?
Combat
Strengths
Servant of Gaia: Boros abilities revolve completely around nature and it's manipulation. This means that his kidō is based entirely around nature and the elements, and requires ingredients harvested from certain plants during certain times to be effective. He can also easily hide in a natural environment.
Bull's Strength: Heavily muscled, Boros' strength is far beyond that of any human spirit. He is easily capable of lifting tree trunks one handed, for example.
Weaknesses
Herbalism: Boros' kidō-like skills are heavily reliant on the various ingredients he carries in his pouches. As such there is a limit to the amount of times he can use them, and can be countered in the same manner as kidō.
Urbanisation...urgh: Due to his kidō abilities being heavily based upon nature, they are of less use in urban areas, where there is less plant life for Boros to call on. And he can't hide in such areas either.
